Is anyone else a little bit anxious about the storm tomorrow?

I don't know why I am because no one around me seems worried.

I've secured all my bins and garden furniture!

^I would ring them again probably not today and just check because I don’t think they can get away with doing nothing but who knows these days anything is possible^

3 years ago the road outside my house and my neighbours' was ankle deep with plane tree leaves (which are the size of dinner plates) and my neighbour fell over. I told the Council I would sue them if I fell and injured myself, and within a couple of days they were here with the truck to suck up the leaves.

Yes, you really have to talk tough to them

The wind has ramped up here and next door's fence has gone!

Just been looking at a video clip from a friend living in a highish block of flats in Portsmouth. It showed the waves breaking on the front at Southsea, which are clearly breaking well over the promenade and you can sea that her block of flats is also responding to the wind. The rail of the balcony is clearly moving up and down!

In south Oxfordshire, the wind is winding up, twigs and small branches, up to foot or two long are been blown off trees, around us and, with leaves are hitting our wndows. The cooker hood outside ventilator is rattling, which I have never heard before and there is now nobody walking up and dowwn the footpath or road, outside our house, not many vehicules either.

Just making sure my telephone and Kindle are fully charged and that the gaslighter I use to light the gas hob burners is primed and ready for action when the inevitable power cut comes. When ever there are powere cuts in this area, we are usually one of the first areas out. The wood burner is also primed and ready to be lit, if the electricity goes.

This..?

Our biggest worry is power as we are on overhead supply here in the village, and if it goes, so does our water as we don't have a cold water tank. So, jugs of water filled, bucket filled to flush loo, candles and matches located, mobiles fully charged. Its is actually a lovely sunny day here, but extreme gusts and quite a lot of noise.

That was to the pigeon!

We are now in red zone and it's really picking up now. Next to a building site so can hear all their equipment flapping and rattling.

Luckily it is blowing along the house so windows are OK but bit worried about the chimney as its an old house.

Yes. It’s very bad here in Devon at the moment. I’ve lost some roof tiles I know. I heard them sliding down. My next door neighbor has lost a corner of his roof too

Secured what I can and just hoping for the best. After seeing the pics of last storm I hope all trampoline owners secure their equipment, they're a real danger in high winds.

JaneJudge Fri 18-Feb-22 11:52:55

our fencing is going like dominos confused but it has always looked like it was put up by a drunked

kjmpde Fri 18-Feb-22 11:54:37

our local council is obsessed with trees and we have a few with TPOs. Cannot touch them - so of course a tree has just crashed into our roof and damaged tiles and taken down guttering. thankfully no injury to body but why do councils not allow careful pruning as we would not be in this position of waiting a surveyor etc

Apparently a flying trampoline hit a train this morning!!

Have just returned from a short dog walk; it was just a strong wind when I left home, but during the walk the power and the noise have been building, and the wind is now roaring. Glad we went when we did. I'm always concerned about flying debis so that's it - doggy won't get another walk today I fear.

Debris - 'can spell 'can't type and forget to proof read.

Very scary here - in a red zone.
Praying that nothing falls on the house.
Also, that nothing falls off the house!

My partner and I are a little but We aren't going out this evening so decided to have a few drinks at home .At least We will be home to keep an eye on things smile

Hellis Fri 18-Feb-22 11:58:48

I'm sitting here terrified at the moment.I live on a hill in Herefordshire and the windows are rattling and curtains blowing up. Also lots of noise in the loft, so scared that I'll lose the roof or chimney

Daisymae Fri 18-Feb-22 11:59:11

Our trees have TPOs on them, does not mean that they can't be lopped. Ours are done every 3 - 5 years, with permission from the council.

I am in hospital following a heart attack but hope to go home later today. The hospital is an hours drive from home so I’m worried about DH driving here to get me. Hopefully it will have passed over by the time we go ??

CrazyGrandma2 Fri 18-Feb-22 12:01:33

We're in the red zone of Kent. I'm sitting in my lounge and looking out, I'm wondering if all the garden walls/fences will survive as I can see them shaking in the wind. Nature is certainly demonstrating its power today! The noise is quite something. Hopefully everything will remain intact.

goose1964 Fri 18-Feb-22 12:05:00

Were in the red zone but the bungalows across the end of our street seems to be sheltering us a bit, but still getting strong gusts. So far there hasn't been any damage that I can see. I'm more worried about DD as she has to work and she works near the seafront.

polnan Fri 18-Feb-22 12:05:50

I am in a fairly sheltered/safe (?) area of Swindon, and I am scared... fences going over and goodness knows what else.

Hope everyone stays safe

Greciangirl Fri 18-Feb-22 12:06:44

No. Just sit tight.
