Is anyone else a little bit anxious about the storm tomorrow?

Our part of Oxfordshire is in the Amber Zone, it’s getting very blustery now but still sunny, worse weather expected by Noon, but calming down later.
Our bungalow is quite protected, but a bit concerned about next doors old Eucalyptus tree, the Willow blew down on Wednesday and as the house has been empty for some time, not much we can do about it.
Candles and gas burners are out just in case and I cooked tonights meal yesterday, as MrOops mate is expected over for a chilli this evening.

Devon is getting gusty now. I just opened the outer porch door to the postman and the wind nearly blew it off taking me with it!

Mid Derbyshire here. Squally rain overnight, nothing to really worry about, I have seen it worse. Keep safe all.

We have an avenue of huge trees in a raised bank running about 40-50 feet from and parallel with the fron of the house.

They are well maintained and as the road and trees run roughly East-West. I assume that the trees, if they fall will fall with the prevailing wind, which is a westerly.

Luckily most of the trees outside our house have been replaced in the 25 years, so are less likely to come down and will not reach the house, but there is one huge tree.

Our house is long and thin, one room deep, so there is nowhere to hide, except downstairs. However, since we bought the house we have had all the chimneys repointed and two were rebuilt and we have been completely reroofed, so all we can do is lookout the insurance policy, put the insurer on speed dial, charge up the mobile phone and hope for the best!

I'm in the West Country but so far so good, although the wind is getting up.

I'm anxious because I have 3 large elm trees on some Council-owned land opposite my house, and 4 large plane trees to the side. When I bought this house 26 years ago, the trees were much smaller and the Council used to maintain them.... but not any more. The trees are now huge and the Council never check them. Storms always stress me out. Eeek!

Your council might be different but my council is responsible for the trees at the end of my garden(not in my garden )they were overlapping my shed last year and I reported it and somebody came and cut them back. Just hoping today they don’t actually fall on my shed which I refurbished last summer at quite significant cost!!…?‍♀️

Shinamae I contact my Council (South Gloucestershire) on a regular basis re the trees, and also the huge drifts of leaves all over my cul-de-sac - they are hopeless and do nothing.

North Devon, wind is getting up now and it is trying to rain. I think I will ring Work for them to find out if the road is clear for me to go to work later because as I said previously it’s a very windy road and it is lined with trees so could potentially be quite dangerous. Also I had the cowl on my chimney replaced about a month ago hope that stands fast!

That’s bad, I think maybe you should check it out because if they are their trees they should be responsible for any damage they do, I would ring them again probably not today and just check because I don’t think they can get away with doing nothing but who knows these days anything is possible…?‍♀️ I have to say my council were very good but I did put my point across quite strongly ?

Last night very windy and lashing rain. At 4.30 pinged to close school. It was an INSET day so setting up to do that remotely had me up early. At the moment, it’s quite still, though the BBC says winds are in the high 50s.

Blue sky coming up from the south west and the wind isn’t too bad at all so far. Very breezy but nothing extraordinary.

My strongest recollection of the 1987 storm was how quickly the temperature rose in the evening before the storm arrived in the night.

Is anyone near Porthleven in Cornwall? The waves there can be quite spectacular even on a‘normal’ windy day.

The cherry tree is in my garden, the trees at the foot of my garden are the councils. My fencing is 18 years old so I just hope it stays standing because I cannot afford to replace it ?‍♀️

Even in these really windy conditions my sparrows are all on my bird table and on the fat balls… The fat balls were empty but when I saw them on the bird table I ventured out to fill it , if they’re brave enough to come to feet I’ve got to be brave enough to fill the fat balls..?

NE coast, Tyne and Wear, wind just started gusting two minutes ago. I am on the top of a hill and it is dustbin day, may end up fetching it from the bottom of the street.
Thankfully there are no large trees close to my house and my fence is steel.

Mine are all in the winter clematis rocking around and clinging on.

I would ring them again probably not today and just check because I don’t think they can get away with doing nothing but who knows these days anything is possible

3 years ago the road outside my house and my neighbours' was ankle deep with plane tree leaves (which are the size of dinner plates) and my neighbour fell over. I told the Council I would sue them if I fell and injured myself, and within a couple of days they were here with the truck to suck up the leaves.

Very early this morning before the moon set the sky looked odd, strange grey cloud and it was a bit breezy but I went back to sleep. At 8 am it was bright, sunny and very windy and I wondered if the storm had veered off but now it it cloudy, raining and the wind is worsening.

The difference between now and October 1987 is that the leaves were still on the trees then and the ground was sodden as we'd had weeks of rain making them more susceptible to high winds.

They have been down, filling up their tums!

I'm in Dorset and very strong gusts here, Have just lost capping and possible tiles off roof, not going out to check properly. Hope it soon starts to ease.

I am worried about my SiL. He is travelling home from London up the M1 this morning to the Peak District. He will be in the red zone then the amber so not a good trip.

We’re on a red weather warning here. The wind is blowing a hoolie and it’s lashing down with rain one minute and the next the sun is out, but still blowing a hoolie! I hate the wind, it’s always scared me! ?

Just praying my lifeboatman son doesn’t have to go out in this.
