Hello kitcheners. Feeling guilty about my absence but the MuseHomeBuilding is gathering steam. Today I cleared the floor space where the kitchen area will be and then steam cleaned it. Many tools and a huge variety of plumbing pieces are elsewhere for one day. Tomorrow all the fittings arrive for the kitchen area and utility room. They will stay where they until the fitter is able to come. I anticipate in about 2 weeks time. During that time the electrician is doing his thing.

From reading the past few days news, it seems this glorious weather is really lifting so many spirits. Happy tears are most welcome Blossoming. I hope you let them flow.

I hope MrSoop has a suitably secure nose peg whilst searching out the source of the stinky smell soop.

According to MrMuse my leisure wear summer work togs I have had on this past week look like PJs brook2704. Even went to the household tip in them yesterday ?.

Highlights of my day have been a call from my DS and the arrival of a beautiful bouquet from him. It is two months since we last chatted. Then, I had a video call from DD. ?

Take care Kitcheners. I've kicked off the work boots, showered and ready for that gin+tonic. It's almost the last of the sloe gin ?

Carbs are my downfall Jax. Hope all goes well with your son's hospital appointment tomorrow. I shall watch for the update.

‘Evening All’

A very tickly cough and headache meant I rang my stepfather to cancel making Sunday lunch. He was kindness and concern itself. I have felt pretty meh all day.

I’ve done a LFT (-ve) and will do another tomorrow. We live up from and next door to a pharmacy. I ought to have asked Himself to nip down this afternoon for a cough bottle. Duh! Hopefully I will sleep myself right tonight. Never mind, I’ve got water, paracetamol and a Netflix film to take my mind off the irritating dry cough.

soop Mon 28-Mar-22 13:14:54

Urms I prescribe plenty of rest and pampering. flowers

muse Well done. We went through what you are experiencing on two occasions. All worth the toil when at last you reap the result of your labours.

Our neighbour has helped to investigate behind the fridge. It appears that mice have been getting in through the tiniest of gaps. No dead bodies but signs of poo and dried wee. All disinfected and hole will be securely filled this afternoon. THANK goodness. grin

Urmstongran Mon 28-Mar-22 16:36:56

The kitchen is very quiet these days.

soop Mon 28-Mar-22 16:59:40

Urms, the sunshine invites other activities. Make the most of it. I sat in the garden for a wee while. I wish that I was fit enough to tackle many of the jobs needing attention. Hey ho! Mr Soop is making a fine job of things.

Back to sweep kitchen floor and trust that the gap has been poly-filled sufficiently well to deter the little meeses. Bless. hmm

Until we meet again tomorrow. TOYA. smile moon

Good evening lovely Kitcheners. Today started off cloudy but turned into a sunny afternoon. I fear I may be unwell as I have been dusting, sweeping and vacuuming most of the day. Both flights of stairs are now pristine, at least until Mr. B comes in from the garden! Does anyone know a cure for compulsive housework syndrome? grin

I’m so glad the source of the pong has been traced and dealt with Soop.

Now that spring is here and life is opening up I find myself grieving for those who lost loved ones during the pandemic. I have been so very fortunate. Also, I’m thinking of Harrigran, Panache and GrannySomerset today flowers

Oh my goodness Blossoming I hope it’s not contagious, you’d best self isolate for a few days until it’s passed ..

Blossoming Mon 28-Mar-22 18:30:02

I’m lying back in a recliner eating strawberries. It seems to be working ?

Jaxjacky Mon 28-Mar-22 19:00:18

Glad you’re having a sit down Blossoming it will pass, be assured. I echo your thoughts.
Back to Salisbury today, cast off, splint on, his skin looks like tandoori dye! He has a video consultation in a week, back to hospital in three, hopefully signed off, so I didn’t do much today.
‘Hâte those meeces to pieces’ soop I remember that.
Enjoy your evening all x

gillgran Mon 28-Mar-22 19:17:32

Good to see your DS is making progress Jaxjacky.

soop, hope you've sorted the mousy smell out now. be content to take it easy as you continue your recovery.

Warm wishes to you all, especially those who are poorly.

‘Evening All’

A day ‘busy doing nothing’. Lovely. Sipping water. Spooning down cough mixture and feeling better. Had two lovely long phone calls - one with an ex-colleague who always makes me laugh and one with a friend in Yorkshire who owns the apartment next door to us in Spain. Sadly she was widowed this time last year and has decided to put her Spanish place up for sale. She won’t be going again. Very sad for her, too many memories of her dear husband and she herself has MS and travelling alone at her age (almost 80y) is too daunting for her now. That was a bittersweet phone call but we ended up sharing laughs about happier times we’d all spent together. Such a nice lady. I told her we’d pop over to Yorkshire soon. x

Yiayia4 Mon 28-Mar-22 20:28:49

Hope the mouse smell is improving Soop.
Pleased your son is healing Jax.

Will join you Blossoming, I feel a few days rest is in order, will share my chocolate strawberries with you all.

My number 2 DGS was chosen to play football for Chelsea academy yesterday he did well, very proud Yiayia.
Hope all poorly grans get well soon.

Another pleasant day with sunshine. I cannot believe snow and much colder weather has been forecast.
TOYA

Bellanonna Mon 28-Mar-22 21:51:42

I didn’t know that Charleygirl. Hard to envisage in this lovely spring weather ☹️

Nannytopsy Mon 28-Mar-22 22:49:08

Good evening everyone and apologies for my absence. As our leader (*soop*) said, the sunshine has kept us out of the kitchen. We have managed to tick off nearly all of the garden “to do” list. The last big job is using the pressure washer on the patio. I think it may be a while until it is warm enough!
Sleep tight everyone ! Sleep tight everyone!

Good afternoon to my favourite Gransnetters. I am happy to read your updates.
Another sunny day. I shall therefore sit outside for a wee while.

Pong is beginning to fade. It was cement that sealed the breach, not polystyrene. Mees would have made short work of the latter.

After two weeks without 02 mobile phone signal, it has miraculously pinged. Three old messages. I am thrilled.

I intend popping into our kitchen after an hour spent in the sunshine. smile

Fennel Tue 29-Mar-22 15:51:39

I know that mouse pong well - in fact there are 2. One is urine and the other - a sort of gas smell - is from
their decomposing bodies.
In France our house was surrounded by cereal growing fields and mice were often visiting for some reason. Their favourite place was the piano where they did a lot of expensive damage, eating the felts, making their nest etc
Some chose to make their home somewhere in the car/van.
damage there too in fact sometmes chewing around cables.
I hope you manage to get rid of the smell - maybe try creating a competing smell?

soop Tue 29-Mar-22 16:22:22

Fennel hmm We have been subjected to a rotting corpse smell. Horrendous! We had to take up the floor boards in a room/cupboard where all the wiring etc joins junction boxes and the likes.
It is fading (the pong) and now that the wee entrance has been filled in...we shall see.

The sun is not as warm as it has been recently. I sat for a short time and watched as Mr Soop continued to tidy the rockery. Soon, I hope to be able to do a few not-too strenuous jobs. I've three weeks convalescence ahead of me. It has not been an easy thing to refrain from being busy.

My love to you all. Continue to take good care of yourselves. Thank you for your company. smile moon

Fennel Tue 29-Mar-22 18:08:10

It's no joke, soop if they get near the house electrics, so good that you seem to have blocked them off in time.
Another story = I was sitting on the upstairs toilet and a little face popped out from the crack between the skirting and the floor. Said hello and disappeared. He/she had run up a plumbing or electric route.
A slightly different species chewed through the plastic waste pipe from the upstairs bath and water poured down into our sitting room.
You need a special insurance addition to cover this kind of damage.

brook2704 Tue 29-Mar-22 18:12:15

Soop good news that the pong seems to have eased - let’s hope that’s it sorted now. Mr Soop sounds like he’s been really busy tidying the rockery - any chance of a photo as I’m sure we’d love to see it ?
I’ve been prancing around at my dance class today trying to look poised and elegant - not much chance of that but I do enjoy it!
We had mice a good few years ago in our garage but nothing since thank goodness, but we do seem to attract rather a lot of frogs this time of year in our little pond. I don’t mind them if they stay in the pond but they’ve a cheeky habit of hiding somewhere and then jumping out at me when I’m gardening and giving me such a fright!

Jaxjacky Tue 29-Mar-22 18:48:04

Hi all, hope the pong is well on its way out soop you’ll be having a good sniff every time you go in there, just in case, keep up the rest, no jumping the gun.
We’ve had some soft rain today and the temperature is dropping, gloves and coat will be out by Thursday, have you got snow forecast brook?
Delivered some more bits for Ukraine, went to the farm shop, pharmacy and library, which was closed for stock taking, I renewed my books online.
MrJ completed my birthday present from a month ago, raised bed is now operational, it’s good to have him home for a couple of days.
Busy bée Nannytopsy and relax..
On with dinner, enjoy your evening all, hope Urms is feeling better. X

brook2704 Tue 29-Mar-22 19:34:47

Yes you’re right Jax I’ve just checked the weather app and there’s an overnight forecast of snow ⛄️ - will see what it’s like in the morning!

Blossoming Tue 29-Mar-22 19:56:40

Good everyone lovely Kitcheners. I’m cured of the housework mania, Mr. B took me shopping this morning, this is a treat for me as I don’t get out much grin. I picked up the things I needed and had a good look round, I was struggling by the time we got back to the car though. I have slept for several hours this afternoon! Just had a lovely bowl of minestrone soup, delicious and healthy.

The weather has been rather mixed here, rain forecast for tomorrow. I’ve got used to the sunshine!
