Not sure if I am allowed to ask this on here.....

As a fairly newish poster I may be breaking Gransnet rules by asking this question but here goes. Alegrias1 is a frequent and lively poster on here, usually on the more in-depth topics but I haven't seen any responses from her in a while. I have been wondering if she is ok. I hope she is.

Did GNHQ say it was against the rules or have people just assumed that because they said something unkind about an absent poster and were deleted. I once got deleted because I said someone who was around anymore was a misogynist. I wasnt deleted because I was talking about him whilst he wasnt around but because it was a personal attack.

Galaxy Wed 23-Feb-22 20:47:23

Wasnt around that should say.

Callistemon21 Wed 23-Feb-22 20:48:32

Perhaps we pister off.

Or all of them.

Marydoll Wed 23-Feb-22 20:55:31

I have seen posts from GNHQ in the past, saying they were deleting threads/posts, because a poster was being discussed.

However, nowadays it seems to be a different team at GNHQ, so who knows?

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 06:58:02

If it’s reported it will be deleted

Doodledog Thu 24-Feb-22 08:41:31

I hope it’s not deleted, as the thread has been useful.

If it is, though, I’d like HQ to explain why - and not just in vague terms about ‘the spirit of GN’.

Discussion of other posters isn’t allowed.
So the lemongrove stuff is fine, but not the Alegrias stuff.
I’m pretty certain that Alegrias would not like it at all that she was being discussed here.
She is a very private person

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 08:49:26

I’m not reporting it by the way, but I don’t think that we should discuss Al further

JaneJudge Thu 24-Feb-22 08:51:30

Got your big girl pants on today Fanny? grin

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 08:54:00

Always, Jane, always.
The damn things are huge!

Marydoll Thu 24-Feb-22 09:05:10

I too feel uneasy about people discussing Al.
No matter how many times it is said, I will repeat, she did not leave because of the SNP bashing, she left because she was upset. All the speculation here won't change anything.
Time to move on. She is not here to put her side of the story.

I have even bigger pants on today, than you Fanny! ?

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 09:08:00

Mary I doubt very much indeed that that is true!
Is it time for a ‘Show us your knickers thread!’? shock

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 09:08:38

Metaphorically though, maybe wink

Marydoll Thu 24-Feb-22 09:16:01

It would be deleted Fanny and there would need to be health warning for those of a weak disposition. # fatpantsgirl!

Doodledog Thu 24-Feb-22 09:34:36

Discussion of other posters isn’t allowed.

Where is that stated, FC?

Incidentally, when I said that this thread had been useful I was confusing it with the last 'State of the Boards' thread ('Not in the Spirit of Gransnet'). This one, whilst I'm sure it was started with the best of intentions, has been more confusing than illuminating, as unless others know more than I do, we are no further forward with knowing what we are, and are not, allowed to post. I hate it when we have spent time on posts only to have them swept aside because of a 'rule' that is not explicit. I understand posts being removed if they are libellous or otherwise offensive, but when whole threads are censored and there is no explanation I find it very unhelpful. If we were told what the rules are, we could self-censor by not posting on threads that were doomed from the start.

Doodledog Thu 24-Feb-22 09:35:41

PS Have you been in my knicker drawer, Marydoll? ?

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 09:40:24

It isn’t stated.

Posts and threads are removed for all sorts of reasons which are in ‘The Rules’.

The notoriously nebulous nature of The Guidelines is almost a running gag.

All I’m saying is that if it this thread is reported it will be deleted.

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 09:41:09

Sorry, that should read ‘aren’t’ in the rules

Galaxy Thu 24-Feb-22 09:43:02

I think Fanny is right we dont know if Alegrias would like it so we should probably respect that and do our own censorship smile

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 09:45:59

It’s a bit like Wordle, Doodledog, knowing what you are and aren’t allowed to post.
It’s an artful balance of luck and judgement.

Marydoll Thu 24-Feb-22 09:52:10

In the past, GNHQ have deleted posts about missing posters and said that those posters may have private reasons for not posting and they do not allow this.

Some time ago, I hadn't been posting, after a pile on and read a post, speculating that I had been banned! I was not amused!!!
?

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 09:54:42

Ha ha! I remember that Mary!
Sorry, I shouldn’t laugh, but I’ve never seen you so cross!

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 10:05:53

It certainly wasn’t funny at the time
(And I hardly dare mention all the crud that’s been written about me)

Marydoll Thu 24-Feb-22 10:09:12

No blooming wonder, Fanny!!!
I was trying to keep my head down and still I being got at! ??????

Moi? I'm such a shrinking violet, how could anyone think that of little old me????? ?

Doodledog Thu 24-Feb-22 10:13:03

Galaxy

Agreed, as far as saying anything negative is concerned (not that I would want to - I prefer to say what I think face to face and keep it to the topic or thread concerned) but if we are expected to post according to rules, we should at least know what they are.
