How often do you shower and wash your hair

I was surprised to read on one of the other forums that a lady showered twice a day.
My husband before he retired showed at work before coming home. He did work that required this.
Into retirement I shower two to three times a week and wash my hair once a week. A strip wash daily for me is fine unless I am doing heavy gardening work.
My understanding was that showering too much is not good for us.

Yes I agree too about a strip wash being more trouble than a quick in and out shower. However a strip wash may be more economical on water. I try to use as little water as poss by only having the shower on to rinse before soaping and afterwards of course. This for environmental and economic reasons.
I don’t mind such a chat as it’s only light hearted, not intended to be judgmental.

Yes, we definitely need something a little lighter at the moment.

Agree - the news is so grim right now.

Lucca, being incapable of 'bits in basin' the camping bottle wash is easier (for certain areas) than strip down. Just fill a large plastic bottle with warm water - and use to rinse 'bits' when sitting on the loo!

Daily warm/hot shower - usually before bed - helps me sleep …

The word "bits" is too much?
I could suggest some alternatives...

Re ‘bits’ . After doing away with the bidet, I would have liked to have had fitted a hand held loo spray like they have in most loos in Finland but my plumber said it couldn’t be done here.

Did you know the word pronounced bit is a swear word in French ? (Bite)

It isn't actually. A jug of soapy water works really well.
I got the idea from a novel I was reading in which a young Muslim girl kept a jug beside the loo because they are supposed to wash after going. (according to the novel)

Shower - but it’s quick. I can’t imagine standing under it for 20 minutes.

Oldbat1 Mon 07-Mar-22 19:59:38

I always shower every morning and I also wash my short hair - all done within 5mins. Life is too short to worry about drying the shower I give it a quick squeegee and job done. Strip washing takes far too long and I would never feel properly clean. Gone are the days when we didn’t have bathrooms/showers thank goodness.

Call me picky but unlike some I don’t like these threads which ask personal questions about our habits.
I know, I don’t need to answer and I won’t, but whose business is it but mine and why on earth would I want to know about anybody else?

I know what you mean, but it is fascinating knowing how other people function.

argymargy Tue 08-Mar-22 07:45:17

I made the move to here from Mumsnet to get away from this kind of thread! Also:
How often do you change your sheets (daily, weekly, monthly, rarely)
How often do you use a bath towel (once, twice, until it puts itself in the laundry)
..etc ad infinitum
So… where can I go now?!

FannyCornforth Tue 08-Mar-22 07:54:47

One of the most fascinating things I read on MN (or indeed anywhere)
was about wiping your bum.

Some people do it standing.
Others do it seated.

It comes as a shock for both groups when they learn that the other group exists!

Hetty58 Tue 08-Mar-22 07:58:03

argymargy, it can only get worse. I find it all very amusing!

nadateturbe, thank you - I don't think anyone here has spent time camping in remote areas.

My Muslim friend has to take a bath after sex (even in the early hours, required by religion). As they live with her husband's parents - they know all about it and there are little smiles and comments at breakfast. How awful!

JackyB Tue 08-Mar-22 08:32:59

The Muslim rule about washing after intercourse I very sensible and always remembered t and put it into practice where posible.

I was taught to use the jug beside the loo in the maternity ward. This has come up before on a thread here on GN. It was a terrible faff. The midwife was shocked and told me off when I took a shower and went back to bed with wet hair.

I have never used a hairdryer and would even bike to work with still damp hair on wintry days. I have never had a cold.
