How often do you shower and wash your hair

I was surprised to read on one of the other forums that a lady showered twice a day.
My husband before he retired showed at work before coming home. He did work that required this.
Into retirement I shower two to three times a week and wash my hair once a week. A strip wash daily for me is fine unless I am doing heavy gardening work.
My understanding was that showering too much is not good for us.

DH and I were only discussing the other day, how often we had a bath when we were first married, nearly 50 years ago. We didn’t have a shower, they were only to be found in the changing rooms at school.

I had a bath twice a week, and a good wash in between, DH probably used the same bath water as me. I worked in a bank, he had an outdoor, manual job.

Washed my hair in the basin.

Don’t think we smelled. Hope not.

How times change.

Just to add that after my knee operations I had strip down washes each morning. What a faff!

I shower every morning and wash my hair every other day. When we lived in the tropics I often had two showers a day and sometimes popped into a hairdresser to have my hair washed and dried. I would love love a long, luxuriating bath but my knees won’t allow it.

I hate showers, but it’s all I have in this retirement flat. I couldn’t get out of the bath now anyway. I don’t wash my hair in the shower - I don’t see how that works. I do it in the wash basin. Hair every other day, shower every two or three days.

My hair is difficult to dry and tame - perhaps I do need product.

The other day I just left it to dry naturally after washing

Callistemon21 Mon 07-Mar-22 15:07:32

"product"

If the hairdresser asks if I'd like some product on my hair, I always want to ask what product? What does she mean by product? Lots of things are produced but I don't necessarily want them on my head.

NotSpaghetti Mon 07-Mar-22 14:43:18

Every day.
It's quick and easy in the shower and I don't use lots of "product" on my hair so even with long hair the washing is fast and simple.

Hate strip-washing as it takes forever!

Sometimes I have a bath instead - but not if I'm in a hurry.

I keep my hair very short, therefore I wash it every day.
I have a shower every other day.

Another one here wondering about dressing for dinner. Also if your hair ‘is washed’ twice a week is that by someone else? Just being nosey.

nadateturbe Mon 07-Mar-22 14:28:22

I wondered about dressing for dinner too.
Esspee?

I have a shower cubicle with a tray, and the drain has a chrome cover on it; this is the bit which makes me heave, when it is lifted there is a bit which catches everything, yuk. We also have one of those metal strainer thingies to put over the drain in the bath which also has a shower over it, and I agree Fanny, it does work very well!

FannyCornforth Mon 07-Mar-22 12:59:35

Gill I put a little metal strainer on top of my plug hole to catch hair.
Works a treat

GillT57 Mon 07-Mar-22 12:56:44

Crikey, some people like to pick a fight ! If you don't approve of this thread, just avoid it, we don't need to know. Anyway, I shower every other day, and generally wash my hair in the shower, haven't had a bath in years due to difficulties in getting out safely. Generally spend 5 minutes in shower, and although I enjoy it, I do hate drying my hair. I use a wiper on the shower cubicle, works very well, and periodically I give it a going over with some glass cleaner. My worst job in the world is clearing the plug/drain in the shower, even though it is only family hair, it makes me heave.

I shower and wash my hair every morning, even when I go to Aqua Aerobics grin

How did we ever survive the 50s and 60s. Tin bath on a Sunday in the kitchen with water heated in a boiler! Hate showers!

Yammy Mon 07-Mar-22 12:29:10

Shower every day hair wash twice a week. I very rarely bathe as it is a big cast-iron one on legs we inherited and too slippery and high to get out of without doing yourself a mischief.

Tina49 Mon 07-Mar-22 12:22:52

It’s a balance for me between not wishing to waste water or electricity, but sometimes “needing” a bath because of extreme pain or because of stress. I find baths really relaxing and soothing.

Luckygirl3

You would be shocked if I told you when I last had a shower. I am on my own here and in eye-watering pain from a slipped disc, and prior to that had a broken foot. Having a shower is both painful and risky.

I use large baby wipes to wash each day and towel-off shampoo when my hair needs it.

Now - as for my feet - they might as well be in China for all I can manage to do with them. I soak them in a casserole dish.

No-one has yet said I stink.

But did they complain about the casserole? grin

Shower around 3/4 times a week, hair twice, wash down otherwise. Skin specialist told me years ago that it would be much better if I showered less often, didn't use expensive moisturiser and let the skin work naturally. Fine if you never see anyone

crazyH Mon 07-Mar-22 11:43:39

Callistemon, I was wondering about that too !!!

Callistemon21 Mon 07-Mar-22 11:39:32

I always have a bath before dressing in the morning and sometimes another before dressing for dinner depending on how I’ve spent the day. My hair is washed about twice a week.

Dressing for dinner? Do you have cook and a butler? And a
bottlewasher?
shock

JaneJudge Mon 07-Mar-22 11:30:15

every other day I bath wash hair, the day inbetween I shower but don't wash hair
obviously if I have done something that requires a bath or shower I have one
