Radar Love.
For years I thought they were saying
and the line of cars go down in Soho

When in actual fact it was
And the line of cars go down real slow, woah

Same song,

I heard
Brandy-Lea is coming on strong

The lyrics are
Brenda Lee's coming on strong.

I have realised since using sub titles on the Television that lots of song lyrics are new to me.

???
Equally funny when the AutoCorrect on the subtitles chooses the wrong word, and it looks even sillier than what I was singing.

Chris Rea's "Stainsby Girl" was to my ears a "Sainsbury's girl".
A misheard lyric is called a "mondegreen". It comes from "Lady Mondegreen" - the words mistaken for "laid him on the green" in the Scottish ballad "The Bonny Earl of Murray".

Bohemian Rhapsody - I heard "Mama - just shot a bear", I was convinced the song was about a Russian woman who went around shooting bears.

Stevie Wonder - Superstition. For years, I sang "Nelly's superstitious", it wasn't till I got married that my husband told me it was "Very superstitious....."

Procul Harem's Whiter Shade of Pale - my younger siblings always sang "Sixteen vestless urchins heading for the coast." I've often wondered what the Vestal Virgins thought about that.

Elvis sang about "Return to Simba".not sender. That was down to the quality of my radio.

In Joseph it sounds to me like "I closed my eyes, drew back the curtains to see what I could see. " With your eyes closed?

Hark the Glasgow Herald sings, glory to the newborn King

(Hark the Herald angels sing)

"Most highly flavoured gravy" for "Most highly favoured Lady"
in "The Angel Gabrial to Mary came" although I think this last was a piece of deliberate school-girl humour, rather than a genuine mistake

You know the song in the Dior perfume ad?

For ages I thought the words were 'I want to swim down the Champs Elysees'. Even though that makes no sense, I told myself that the point was that wearing the perfume meant you could do the impossible.

Lol I think that advert is awful, the actress on it comes across a a right little madam !But the music is sung by Sia and she sings
“I want to swing from the chandelier “ ?

'Good Vibrations' by the Beach Boys.
I always thought the words in the first line were :

' I love the purple clothes she wears' ( rather than 'colourful clothes')
Everybody seemed to be wearing purple in the late 60's......

Check out Peter Kay on utube, misheard song lyrics. Really funny.

Kim 19, I still think of it as

Maisie Dotes and Daisy Dotes and little Izy Dizy!

Desmond Dekker 'Israelites;
For years I thought it was 'Get up in the morning, same thing for breakfast'
It's actually 'Get up in the morning, slaving for master'

How embarassing !!

Freed From Desire by Gala
I always sang
“He’s got his trumblees”
Instead if “He’s got his strong Beliefs”
Thought it hilarious when I discovered that my daughter had sung the very same words years. ?

Blondie...I thought it said "The tide is high and I'm moving on
Instead, it's the time is right and I'm moving on
Beach boys I thought it was "Wouldn't it be nice if we were married. Not a bit like the real if we were olderblush

Foxyferret Sat 19-Mar-22 16:38:32

Desmond Dekker oooo my ears are alight. ( The Israelites.)

Spanisheyes Sat 19-Mar-22 16:42:42

I always thought the Bee Gees sang ‘you come to me on a submarine’, found out years later it’s ‘you come to me on a summer breeze’…….not much difference ??.

My teenage foster son's favourite song was, You Picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, but sang with 200 children and a crop in the field.

JackyB

In Peter Gabriel's song "Games without Frontiers" I always thought the background singers were singing "She's so popular". It turns out all my friends thought the same. However, now I know it's "Jeux sans frontiers".

I challenge anyone to watch this and keep a straight face:

Forgot to add Two hungry children and a crop in the field. That's what it should have been.

It is "The tide is high but I'm holdin' on" by Blondie. The tide is high is the title of the song.

I always thought that the line from Live and Let Die, "but in this ever changing world in which we live in" was grammatically wrong. Turns out I was wrong as it's, "But if this ever changin' world
In which we're livin'".

Paul Young
Every time you go away
You take a piece of me with you
I thought this was
Every time you go away
You take a piece of meat with you
(Very wise to take a snack if you're going on a long journey!)

Also thought the Israelites were singing about the Same thing for breakfast!

heatherjw Sat 19-Mar-22 17:34:52

For many years I heard Desmond Decker's " the Israelites" as "my knees are alight"

When he was little, my son thought Rod Stewart's Hot Legs was Fat Legs.

When I was a child I thought peril on the sea was a seaside town.
