I've just discovered the real lyrics from your post. I'm 67. A challenge to you and #GillT57 - own up to the age you found out. I still sing this occasionally to my grandchildren. They've asked me what the words mean but I've always said just nonsense words. My day's been shattered.

In the song Donald, where's your troosers , a good friend thought Andy Stewart was singing
" Through the streets, in makiltilgo "
instead of "Through the streets in my kilt I'll go"
We discovered this when he asked my husband whereabouts in Scotland the town "Makiltilgo" was as he'd never been able to find it on a map.

In R.E.M.'s The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite, I heard "furniture maker" instead of "Call me when you try to wake her "
I knew it wasn't that, but couldn't work out what is was meant to be.

I’ve got a similar one to toscalily in that for years, I thought Loudon Wainwright was a duo.

So did I ! I asked who Lesley was!…..just got a bemused look .?

Oh dear, so did I! Apparently she’s overblown with bliss. And I always thought the Angel was playing with her harp…

When she was little my daughter also sang "It's a Hard Egg" instead of heartache, Casdon. She also sang "It's only worms and worms are all you need..." to the Bee Gees' song 'Words'. Both these errors stuck with us and we still sing them now!

Freddy again. I always thought Beelzebub had a devil for a sideboard - Weeeeee! Didn't make much sense but then very little in that song did to meeeeee!

As for the advert I couldn't understand why a finger of fudge was full of peppery goodness. I only recently found out it was Cadbury goodness.

I always thought that the line from Live and Let Die, "but in this ever changing world in which we live in" was grammatically wrong. Turns out I was wrong as it's, "But if this ever changin' world
In which we're livin'".

All these years I have chortled it around the house and DH has never contradicted me he must think the same, he is a bit deaf.

I was about 7 or 8 when I asked my Dad what the word Wholesale meant. He sat me down and gave me a lecture on buying and selling goods and the difference between wholesale and retail. I was a bit puzzled so I asked him if there was a retail block as well as a wholesale block where everyone was dancing to the Jailhouse Rock. I can still remember the look of disappointment on his face!

well you learn something every day. I have been a singer all my life and all my family are musical too and play instruments etc so I have always heard Mazy dotes as a that and never new it was animals at all so now at the age of 76 I finally know the lyrics. still fun to sing the other words anyway!!
