Grandparents names

Someone remarked yesterday that the names currently in vogue are those associated with our grandparents era.

My grandparents were Hilary and Giles and Doris and Bernard. It's a long time since I've heard any of those names being used.

What we're your grandparents called?

Am I the only one thinking that too much revealing of family names, ages etc on forums isn’t a good thing?

One of my Grandfathers was called Edgar. I can’t imagine that coming back into fashion!

John and Christine. (M) Walter and Mary (P) I only met W & M once as a six week old baby, as my father was killed in WW2 and bad feeling developed between my mother and her in-laws. I had a maternal great aunt called Muriel, and four others who were sisters to Christine, called Winifred, Edith, Harriet and Dorothy. Not too keen on Muriel, the name that is, the owner was a nice but old fashioned lady.

Ethel and Horace were my mums parents and Rosina and William were my dads. Never met either of the men as they died before I was born.

Beatrice and Arthur
Winifred and Alfred

Think there are a few Beatrice’s and Arthur’s around and lots of Alfie’s. No Winifred’s though!

V3ra - there are lots of baby Mabels among my friendship groups, it’s become very popular here in the South West.

Pantglas2, in general I understand your concerns, I would never share such information on FB for instance, but with no additional information and anonymous user names I think revealing forenames of our grandparents on GN is a pretty innocuous thing to do.

Norman and Clara
Stanley and Agnes
Agnes in France is still used and pronounced Anne ness, much prettier sounding

Winifred reminds me of the character from Ballet Shoes by Noel Stretfield (excuse my dyslexic spelling)

Pantglas2 Sun 17-Apr-22 15:45:27

Unfortunately grannyactivist a few people post on lots of these threads eg Good Morning - where we state our whereabouts, ‘How old are you’ - where further info is gleaned and now this with grandparents names...

Wow, there are some family trees on here that need exploring! Get an Ancestry subscription and find out who your grandparents were. You may even get hold of photos of them and find out they were just like you. I agree with Pantglas2 that too much personal information is being posted.

Harry and Annie, Alexander and Christina a.k.a. Sandy and Teeny grin

Neither in nor out of fashion really.

HowVeryDareYou Sun 17-Apr-22 16:24:33

My maternal grandad was Albert (he died when I was 2), his wife Emily.
Paternal grandparents were William and Lillian (died when I was about 9)

Pantglas I did think about security before I posted, but as the names are so common in those areas I decided to post. I don’t live where I was born and I would never post my DoB or parents’ names.

V3ra

Mabel Agnes and William Charles on my Mum's side.
Sophia Elizabeth and Frederick George on my Dad's side.

Think it's time poor Grandma Mabel's names had a revival!
All the others are reasonably popular these days in one form or other.

Mabel is a more popular name on these parts ( NW England) ...my friend has 2 GD named Mabel and Agatha
