IRRITATING ADS

Do any of you have ads that really drive you mad? My 2 are the detergent ad where they sing "Where is the sun?" None of them can hold a tune, and the song is banal, and the other ad is that rip off of the Beyonce song "If I were a boy". That kid murders it by singing "If I were a toy", and he mangles the song too. Do any other grans have ads they utterly hate?

The man/men in the Go Compare ad. I have to press the mute button and then look away from the screen until I can be sure they've gone.
Then there is the Daisy, daisy, daisy ad...
Ditto!

All the Verisure ads- they must recruit from the school of bad actors

Jang Wed 20-Apr-22 12:37:01

Far too many to mention, but we mute them if watching something live as so annoying. Also why advertise clothes when the models are just jumping around and u cannot see what they r wearing... so won't use that shop. Lots ads go completely over my and OH head we occasionally ask what were they advertising and neither of us has any idea!

I hate the ads done by already rich celebrities especially when it targets gullible people. Philip Schofield should hang his head in shame, and do we really believe that millionaire Holly Willoughby colours her own hair? How stupid does she think we are?

Definitely the ‘Daisy, Daisy, Daisy’ one. If anything it would put me off buying the perfume!

On the other hand, tagline aside, I love the Lloyds bank ones with the horses.

Trying to think of ones I do like … may take a while!
Sure they’re all targeted too … funeral, mobility ads, homecare ? … and then there’s all of the pc ones … I’d like to know who gives the ok for some of the ads as they are just awful ? trying to be too clever or “creative” … lose sight of what they’re advertising!!

Anything with Carol Vorderman, Debbie McGee, Phillip Schofield and Eamon Holmes.

helgawills Wed 20-Apr-22 12:51:15

Saga one 'I've got dolphins to swim with' grrrr, should absolutely not be allowed! Also a lot already mentioned.
HSBC making out they're a wonderful, global bank, 'We are not an island' when they invest in a lot of fossil fuels and rainforest destruction, as do other banks as well.

I'm with you on that or anyone with a mock Geordie or Liverpool accent. Do they think we are going to fall for their dulcet tones.
Oh and Eamon Holmes's wife Ruth Langford seems to pop up in a lot of magazine ads as well. I try to blank her out of my mind.

If ever i’m unfortunate enough to have to watch something on itv player or All4, where it’s impossible to fast-forward the ads, I hate the gambling ads. I think ads that promote gambling should be banned.

Witzend Wed 20-Apr-22 13:05:44

I often have Classic FM on and frequently have to switch off when the ads come on, they’re so irritating. However when it’s, ‘Hello - Philip Schofield here!’ - oh so smugly perky - I very often yell ‘Bugger OFF!’ at him first.
(If not worse!)

I loathe all the ones already mentioned. The current ad writers are a talentless lot compared to the really entertaining ads of the 70s. I have very fond memories of the white horses thundering through the surf, think it was a Guinness ad. Also the really funny Hamlet cigars, which people loved so much that you could buy a video tape of the whole collection. There were some turkeys too, Fairy liquid for one “ where hands that do dishes are soft as your face” with the simpering mummy and pretty little girl.

Ooh I've read the op wrong. blush
In that case, then, I really dislike the meerkats ad.
Ugly little perishers.

I love the Meerkats adverts. They’re so cute ?

MissAdventure Wed 20-Apr-22 13:27:44

I love the Haribo ads. smile

pinkym Wed 20-Apr-22 13:31:04

I think it's a pizza ad, there's no talking, only yodelling out of windows, off balconies etc. It drills through my skull if I'm reading while DH watches TV, we both make a grab for the remote control to switch off the sound. Absolutely no connection to pizzas and guaranteed to irritate!

rockgran Wed 20-Apr-22 13:39:26

Most adverts are bearable the first couple of times but then they are repeated ad nauseam. If I'm watching catchup on 3, 4 or 5 they just seem to use the same couple of adverts repeatedly. I just turn the sound down and find a short chore to do. I suppose it must pay them or they wouldn't do it.hmm

Alioop Wed 20-Apr-22 13:47:19

I'm another Verisure alarms hater, in fact all the ads that have been mentioned irritate me. My remote is always at hand to mute the stupid things. I do love the dog though on the AA ad.

polly123 Wed 20-Apr-22 14:02:01

All of them.

Aepgirl Wed 20-Apr-22 14:02:17

The holiday ad with the really obnoxious parents and badly behaved children. Who would want to spend a holiday with them?

Chestnut Wed 20-Apr-22 14:07:33

I agree that the radio adverts are annoying because you can't fast-forward which I do with the TV adverts. Especially irritating is when they end the advert with that very fast speech which you can't hear, terms and conditions I think.

I still say the sound of an advert can be more annoying. You can close your eyes but not your ears! And some of them really do assault your ears.

rocketstop Wed 20-Apr-22 14:11:35

An advert for an estate agency when all the people who are buying or selling a house come out to dance on the street, it's false and embarassing and sets my teeth on edge !!

tictacnana Wed 20-Apr-22 14:14:05

Both of the Marc Jacob ads - Daisy and Perfect . It appears that this company only caters for dim-wits or people who go out of their way to look freaky. However, the Dad on the Legal and General ad who is taking his two children in a trip...Anyone else? ?

Quizzer Wed 20-Apr-22 14:18:12

The woman with the irritating voice on the Omaze lottery ads. Also the drippy looking girls saying “daisy, daisy, daisy….” on the perfume advert.

catladyuk Wed 20-Apr-22 14:26:45

Ladyleftfieldlover

I don’t watch adverts. I record any programmes on commercial channels which I want to watch. When I play them back I fast forward the adverts.

same here ladyleftfieldlover. i hate all adverts and don't even understand the majority nowadays, where, at the end you are left wondering what was that all about with the content seemingly having no relation to the item being advertised!

rowyn Wed 20-Apr-22 14:27:56

Recording programmes so you can fast forward through commercial breaks is one answer.
If I watch something in real time, I have book/newspaper/ cryptic crosswords to hand, so i can occupy myself and ignore the screen until the programme returns!

PS what sort of spellcheck does Gransnet use? Is it American? It's desperate to change my spelling of 'programmes' to all sorts of weird and incorrect alternatives!!
