I am 70. chronically but not mentally. If anyone calls me elderly I will spit, shout and swear (boy can I swear) I weigh 8 stone 12lbs. Wear jeans, crocs, and trainers. I trim my own hedge, paint my own house, drink wine by the bucketful. I drive long distances and listen to rock music. Love horror films, the gorier the better. Laughed my way through Friday 13th. I thought elderly people wore twin sets and pearls (I would rather die!) or have blue rinses. My hair is brown, totally natural and never been died. I want to travel the world, write a book and have abundant sex. So as said fxck off anyone who dares call my elderly!!!!

Well, blossoming, I'll wear my pearls if you are. With crocs?

FannyCornforth Mon 02-May-22 13:27:04

Lucca I bet you and I could guess what’s on Op’s zip up fleece wink

In defence of Crocs I wouldn’t be seen dead in the clog style but I do have a pair of the flip flops that they do. So comfy and would recommend. I also bought a pair of traditional style sandals with a strap across the foot for my grandson who assured me they are comfy too.

I inherited my pearls and used to wear them along with my Laura Ashley dresses in the 80s. I love them but haven’t worn them for a while. Still have the LA dresses for sentimental reasons but they no longer fit! This post has inspired me to wear the pearls again.

Ps I don’t feel old until my arthritis reminds me :-)

BTW my GS is 5 not an adult GC.

I don’t trim my own hedge but I do attend to the bushes. As for Crocs I always wear Birkenstocks., and never wear a fleece ?

I don't mind one little bit being called elderly (70+) as long as the caller is being polite when doing the calling I will answer to anything, and would certainly not be so rude as to tell them to F.Off as the OP has stated she would do would she rather be ignored.?

Sara1954 Mon 02-May-22 13:33:47

Being in your seventies is no different to being any other age, there will always be different types,
At every age you will find conservative dressers and outrageous dressers, drinkers and non drinkers, adventurous or not.
Age hasn’t actually got anything to do with it.

You protest too much, OP - this site has never been promoted as ‘for the elderly’. I imagine many people on here have frequent sex, trim their own hedges (is that a euphemism?), go to festivals, etc. But - don’t feel the need to shout about it - and certainly don’t feel the need to boast that they swear! I personally hate crocs - I think they’re ugly, and I don’t think they’re a sign that you’re young at heart?! I dislike the formality of traditional pearls too - but I do wear some clothes that might be considered for younger people - but don’t feel the need to shout about it.
Are you happy in your life? That’s the important thing ?

undines Mon 02-May-22 13:39:17

Good on ya! You've got balls, you've got energy! I'm sure you've always been a character - why care what anyone else says?

I too used to swear by Birkenstock flip flops until they discontinued them. I have an old pair I’m wearing now for around the house but save the Crocs for holidays.

Ladies, ladies, fetch the smelling salts and call the constable!

I think we've been invaded!

Oh no, I swoon... ?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 02-May-22 13:43:55

I have never had a pair of crocs, but seriously thinking of getting some for the garden this summer.

We have a large spa pool and it would save my Birkenstock’s getting soaked by the GC.

(I love my pearls, stud earrings, bracelet and several necklaces)

Kate1949 Mon 02-May-22 13:47:39

Joanna Lumley is elderly

henetha Mon 02-May-22 13:50:23

I keep an old pair of crocs by the back door for going out in the garden. It makes sense.

OakDryad Mon 02-May-22 13:50:53

Jenny Joseph did this so much better. I detect a teenager bored with revising for English GCSE.
