I am 70. chronically but not mentally. If anyone calls me elderly I will spit, shout and swear (boy can I swear) I weigh 8 stone 12lbs. Wear jeans, crocs, and trainers. I trim my own hedge, paint my own house, drink wine by the bucketful. I drive long distances and listen to rock music. Love horror films, the gorier the better. Laughed my way through Friday 13th. I thought elderly people wore twin sets and pearls (I would rather die!) or have blue rinses. My hair is brown, totally natural and never been died. I want to travel the world, write a book and have abundant sex. So as said fxck off anyone who dares call my elderly!!!!

If you haven’t written a book by the time you are 70, what’s been stopping you?

Maybe the abundant sex didn’t leave much time for the book writing?

I expect it makes the writing a bit shaky.

I’m just loving this ?!

It really wouldn't concern me if anyone called me elderly.
I am happy in my own skin, live my life to the full.
I am having a wonderful retirement doing all the things I didn't have the time to do when I worked.

Bad attitude Hink2! Elderly isn't an insult! Medically, you're geriatric - but that's fine too. Why such a negative reaction to the reality of being 70? Most of us are happily content to be old!

I do hope you're not like my daft little friend (in constant denial) who said 'Don't call me a pensioner - I don't think of myself like that!' (What? Everyone else does.)

She wears what she's always worn, does what she always did - including flirting - and makes a complete spectacle of herself - to the point where I can't go out in public with her. Mentally, she's stuck in a permanent teenage phase. Is there a name for this strange condition?

I wear crocs to leave at the edge of the pool when I have a swim . I used to take them with me when we went cruising and got on a tender because if you got wet feet it didn’t matter. They only cost about $10 here so I chuck them away after a couple of seasons. Do people really actually wear them otherwise ? Far out.

I was enjoying this thread until I read this.

Good luck to you! I met an elderly male nurse at a GP's surgery doing vaccinations in his mid 70s. He's my hero! He was proud of his age and his gentleness and kindness made him my hero!

Are you sure your friend isn’t the OP??

Or is she Ethel from Eastenders?
And is Hetty Dot?

Apologies Hetty, it’s just what I pictured when I read your very evocative post smile

I was referred to as The Old Woman in a coffee shop on Saturday. I was the only one in so no mistaking it, not pleased but no offence taken.

I would rather be the elderly lady than the old woman.

Sago...as they do tend to fly off easily ...I think I'd have to say no... How do you explain in A and E that as you flung your legs over your your shoulders and your crocs flew off and blacked both of your DOH eyes!!!!! Just saying

Dear me. That is so ill mannered.
Nothing wrong with being old or a woman; but it would be like saying ‘the black man’, or ‘the thin girl’.

About twenty years ago, a teenager nearly cycled into me outside the shops.
His mate called out, ‘watch that old woman!’
I was 32!

The last time I was called 'elderly' was when I was thirty-five and having my first baby! But now I'm 67 I feel (fairly) content with who I am, and really don't mind being described as old or elderly. I amuse my granddaughter by saying 'I am a ve-rr-y o-o-o-old la-a-a-ady' when she beats me (as she always does!) at Uno!

Over your shoulders!!! I can’t even lift them as far as the ankles.

Just a wee bit concerned about trimming a hedge if it is a euphemism......a hedge!!!!! Is this another excitement I can look forward to as I enter the late summer of life ...a whole hedge to be trimmed as oppose to a neat heart shaped bush. I'll have to look up topiary designs right now!!!!!

Kate1949 Tue 03-May-22 10:00:40

I find it annoying when older people say things like 'I'm 75 but young at heart'. Or 'I don't feel like an old person'. I feel like shouting 'None of us do!'

Callistemon21 Tue 03-May-22 10:15:20

?

MissAdventure Tue 03-May-22 10:17:03

Or, "I'm 92 years young".

Callistemon21 Tue 03-May-22 10:22:49

I feel 92 this morning
