Synonyms for ‘Fat’ that aren’t Cringeworthy…?

Hello! smile
I am fat.

But I do not like saying ‘I am fat’.

But neither do I like ‘curvaceous’ (probably the best of a bad bunch); ‘cuddly’ (bleugh); ‘curvalicious’ (give me strength); or the word de joure ‘thick’ (confused)

Can you think of any acceptable, non-cringe words for not being slender? Because I can’t

Thank you!

MissAdventure Thu 12-May-22 11:24:10

Oh yes! You are now officially "statuesque".

Jaxjacky Thu 12-May-22 11:25:47

I didn’t like saying I was fat when I was, but it helped me face the fact without skirting round the issue.

Grandmabatty Thu 12-May-22 11:27:00

I love the term statuesque, however I thought you had to be quite tall with it. I'm five foot nothing so 'weeble like' is probably closer to the mark.

Zoejory Thu 12-May-22 11:28:00

My mother would always say a tad hefty

Not sure that was particularly kind though.

FannyCornforth Thu 12-May-22 11:28:58

Except I’m not.
I’m 5’4” and wide.

But I have been called elegant before (but by my Nan - so that probably doesn’t count)

I’m more hippoesque really

That was to MissA regarding statuesque

Fanny How does 'well endowed' sound? Or even, 'rather well endowed'. smile

toscalily Thu 12-May-22 11:30:38

That's the trouble with being short, think I'm more garden Gnomesque.

Vintagejazz Thu 12-May-22 11:32:12

Funny I always pictured you as tall with plaits Fanny. I have no idea why.

giulia Thu 12-May-22 11:33:24

The Italians say it best. Here, they use the English word "curvy", which is really nice. There is a whole breed of "curvy" models who are proud of their category.

MissAdventure Thu 12-May-22 11:33:27

I always think of men if the term "well endowed" is used.

Thank you! I think that I do too!

I don't think the term "plus" is very complimentary or kind. I think the term Petite is nicer than short so why could the fashion industry come up with something better.

Reubenesque?

Damn. Beat me to it !

FannyCornforth Thu 12-May-22 11:35:30

I’ve just remembered that a friend of mine, who is very large, says of herself, ‘there’s a lot of me’

toscalily Thu 12-May-22 11:35:49

Meant to say couldn't

Che parola usano ?? Cicciotto ?

I like statuesque I'll go with that.
After being married for nearly 50 years fatty and thiny have swapped over in our house.
The no figure long-haired female has gone and so has the stocky/chunky rugby player. When these terms are used about men they are acceptable.
My favourite is my GD description "Your like a big cuddly duvet gran".
What irritates me is when people say all women turn into their mothers both in figure and personality, unfortunately I have and they never say it about men. smile

Embonpoint?

Well built, traditionally built, generously proportioned and the like make me think of bungalows grin

Galaxy Thu 12-May-22 11:52:54

I just say I am overweight, its true. I have always thought of Kirsty Allsopp as wuite glamorous.

Galaxy Thu 12-May-22 11:54:24

She can probably spell as well grin

Statuesque is absolutely beautiful.
Like pre Raphaelite beauties (or ‘stunners’ - another bleurgh)

I have the girth to be statuesque but, sadly, the height to be diminutive.

Characterful, with a double aspect.
Needs some work smile

Your embonpoint refers to your boobs. I remember my dear Dad when I told him I was pregnant saying he rather thought so as I had more embonpoint than usual!
