Synonyms for ‘Fat’ that aren’t Cringeworthy…?

Hello! smile
I am fat.

But I do not like saying ‘I am fat’.

But neither do I like ‘curvaceous’ (probably the best of a bad bunch); ‘cuddly’ (bleugh); ‘curvalicious’ (give me strength); or the word de joure ‘thick’ (confused)

Can you think of any acceptable, non-cringe words for not being slender? Because I can’t

Thank you!

My (now ex) husband once described me as 'comfortably plump''.

I know someone who read "fat is a feminist issue", and proudly put on her swimming costume.
She strolled down the beach, and heard a little boy say to his mum "Uurggh! Look at that fat woman!" and decided not to get an icecream after all.

I recently heard someone using plumptious, which I rather liked ?

Scheherazades Fri 13-May-22 12:02:37

I say use the word fat. I am fat. I have all sort words I have used to describe myself over the years. I used round for a long time.
No more though I say fat thats what I am. I am not going to be body shamed anymore.
Now saying proudly I am fat !

I always told everybody I was economically sized and if I went shopping for myself, only the specialist economic shops I would use. Those days I was size 26 and when I slimmed down to a size 8, I’m now a stick insect and very delicate

plump and well- covered.

Rosalyn69 Fri 13-May-22 12:06:54

I say fat is fat. No point dressing it up. When I put on a bit of weight I say I am fat. It’s not shameful. It’s honest.

I call myself "traditionally built" a la Mma Ramotswe if I need a description. A vintage clothes sale group I am on used the term "volup" a shortening of voluptuous which I rather like.

Missingmoominmama Fri 13-May-22 12:09:47

Beautifully built.

Pandrews Fri 13-May-22 12:10:26

In the winter I describe myself as 'well lagged', I also love the description of a larger lady being 'warm in the winter and providing shade in the summer!!'

Magenta Fri 13-May-22 12:13:47

I’ma size 30/32. I’m fat.
I prefer to describe myself as voluptuous. I said to someone recently, ‘think Vicar of Dibley with white hair’.

Madwoman11 Fri 13-May-22 12:16:33

Beautifully upholstered ?

jenpax Fri 13-May-22 12:18:06

Curvy is lovely except I am pear shaped so not sure I can get away with that? I tend to say I am “not exactly thin”

Omaoma57 Fri 13-May-22 12:18:06

In germany they have shops dedicated to the uberfrau…love it

My Sister in Law calls herself a 'Big Girl'. She's a Gran herself.
It makes me ? makes her sound like a teenager. But a nice way to put it I suppose

farmgran Fri 13-May-22 12:27:16

Just say 'I'm a big girl'

Forestflame Fri 13-May-22 12:27:18

Voluptuous!

@sodapop

I was told I had childbearing hips and then I proved it by giving birth at 37 weeks to a 10lb 14oz son, naturally, no stitches etc.

Big boned does actually apply to me, I had a density scan done years ago. ?

I'm kind of lucky in that I'm 6ft tall, so my weight is slightly disguised.

I have been called a Real Woman and a BBW - Big Beautiful Woman in the past but here's a fun one for you Fanny ...

Your height has slipped to your hips

How's that one for size? (Please excuse the pun)

Moggycuddler Fri 13-May-22 12:30:19

I am a plus size lady, or "I take a larger size?"

Interested Fri 13-May-22 12:35:27

Buxom, Comely, apple shaped, a petite curvy

Tilly8 Fri 13-May-22 12:43:29

In Disney World language they call it “Pooh sized” - won’t suit everyone but a nicer way of describing us with a few extra pounds ?

coast35 Fri 13-May-22 12:44:37

An aunt of my husbands greeted him with : Oh you are very portly! He was.

Candelle Fri 13-May-22 12:45:19

In the States, the euphemism 'heavy' is used, as in "I am a little heavy at the moment".

Tilly8 Fri 13-May-22 12:47:28

In Disney world language larger people are described as “Pooh sized” - won’t suit everyone but probably a kinder word than lots of others ??

Candelle Fri 13-May-22 12:51:26

I don't think dress size is an indicator of shape/size.

A size 14 is a squeeze for someone who is short but 'heavy' but perfect for someone of the same weight but eight inches taller.

One would have to give height and weight detail to give a more accurate self-description - and who wants to do that?!
