Do you iron tea towels

In my book ironing t. cloths would be the same amount of energy and time wasted as if I ironed the ceiling, washed the print off the newspaper before I threw it away, disinfected the disinfectant, need I go on ?????? Oh well, each to their own so if it makes you happy Beau1958, carry on!!!!

Old habits die hard. From nursing days early 60s were told an ironed, must be ironed cotton tea yowel coukd be used in an emergency for bad bleeding wounds. I have actually used this a couple of times when DH has had mishaps with saws, drills and goodness knows what else. Lost or bits of digits the results.

Heavens no! I iron as little as possible. As a teenager I had to do the family ironing and mother liked everything ironed. Two brothers and little sister had no chores as I remember. Bitter, moi?

Yes I always iron tea towels and bedding, socks ,pants, towels ,dusters . You name it I iron it ! I even go to my daughters house and bring her ironing home with me . My mum used to make me do hers from when I was 7 and now( I'm a lot more than 7 lol) I still do it .

Nope, fold and stow as soon as properly dry, along with almost everything else.i only iron shirts, blouses/tops, trousers, table cloths and, very occasionally, my kilts.

Another ironing point. I put everything away as soon as it is dry. I don't see the point of putting ironed clothes away that will crease in the cupboard or drawer. I iron things when I need to wear them.

Yes. Don’t mind ironing, but don’t iron towels, underwear, pjs, socks, etc. Only iron the “glass cloths”, not the terry ones. Prefer bedclothes ironed too.

I put everything into my tumble dryer, nothing ever needs ironing. I just hang things up or put them in a drawer when I take them out. Yes, you use electricity with a tumble dryer but nowhere near as much as you would use if you ironed everything. You should not iron anything that doesn't actually need it (particularly tea towels - are you mad), you're seriously wasting so much electricity. The iron and the kettle are the biggest users of electricity in the home.

A little bit of what you fancy does you good, and if that happens to be ironing, so be it. It doesn’t stop me from reading, knitting, watching TV, meeting friends, walking and all the other things that most of us like to do.

Tea towels and pillow cases and duvet covers (only once every Preston Guild). Some t shirts, (just look better) damned hankies that OH insists on using. That's it. Apart from the duvet covers it takes 15 mins a week.

My DH uses cotton handkerchiefs too, but I don't iron them. If we have people coming to stay he likes to iron the duvet covers so I don't stop him. I once caught him ironing his pants too.

Yes, I iron tea towels and serviettes and handkerchiefs and some of my blouses and most of my skirts and scarves.

At one time I ironed bed-linen and tablecloths as well, but stopped that somewhere around 1990, due to pressure of work and not a lot of time for housework.

Now having retired I have more time for ironing, a job I have always enjoyed.

All the ladies who haven’t ironed for decades - I realise some may have been single or sadly widowed, some may not have had children, but all the rest, what happened to your husband’s shirts, the school uniforms, your work clothes?

I don't have a board or iron at the moment as we've got builders in and everything is packed away. But I'm not embarrassed to say that I usually iron teatowels (and cotton/linen pillowcases) it only takes a minute and looks so much better hanging in the kitchen. Some thicker teatowels don't need doing though, and neither do polycotton pillowcases.
I don't iron anything else, unless it's for a special occasion.

Life is far too short to iron anything.

My DS stayed over at the weekend and used my iron for a shirt. He commented that he knew I didn't do much ironing as it had dust on it. The evidence is there...

Sorry I actually like ironing I do find it soothing. I do iron tea towels but draw the line at underwear and actually have no man anyway (thank the lord!)

As I’m now living with my daughter her cleaner irons my bedding but I always iron my own clothes as I feel uncomfortable expecting her to do it for me

Interesting that what our mums did sometimes put us right off! Mine ironed everything too & her days revolved around what stage she was at with her washing. Bored me silly. I worked in a quite posh school until retirement so had to iron my clothes regularly. Until I retired I also had a luxury static caravan i let out so had a heap of white Egyptian cotton bedding to launder every week & it had to be perfect. From the first day of retirement I have never used an iron and never will.

Hardly use tea towels after seeing a programme which showed how they can spread bacteria through over use. Dishwasher on Eco programme washes and air dries all pots, pans dishes and cutlery used during the day to a much better standard than hand washers. I just wish someone would invent dishwasher paddles that you could dismantle to get the occasional bit of long grain rice out. My mum used to iron pants, socks and even towels.... She came home horrified having visited a friend who chucked all the dried washing under the stairs and just fished out what she needed to wear for ironing on the day. Needless to say I thought that was a great idea and immediately followed suit, though I do fold everything as I take it in from the washing line so little actually needs ironing anyway.

I iron as little as possible - but yes I do iron as I like the look and feel of ironed clothes. Sad I think! My Mum and Nan ironed everything! I iron my tops and trousers/jeggins, my husbands shirts, t shirts and trousers or shorts and his bedding - we have joined but single beds. I don’t iron stuff we wear for gardening etc, just fold that. Def don’t iron t towels and underwear.

Happysexagenarian I do that too ? I don't normally iron tea towels but having had spluttering on my white shirts I now get a tea towel out and iron that before I do anything else, just in case.
