Whats an iron? Just asking! x

Just saw you post ... before I was going to post mine ...
Whats ironing ?

Mau52 Thu 19-May-22 17:13:51

I do iron tea towels but underwear??? Never lol x

mamaa Thu 19-May-22 14:56:23

Nope, but my Mum did along with everything else including underwear shock
I adopt Urms #lazygran mantra when it comes to ironing- apart from bedding- I need to have lovely ironed pillowcases /duvet cover to put on the bed. Fitted sheets are a bit of a hassle to iron but I do give them a once-over too.
Other than that I do the odd cotton shirt for 'Im indoors' and that's the lot!

At least one of them must be 50 years old, it's a picture of the new decimal coins.

grin

My MIL collected tea towels, Irish linen with pictures and maps on them.
I found them in a drawer, unused and now they're in my kitchen drawer - unused.

MissAdventure Wed 18-May-22 19:57:34

I get mine from poundland.
I've had them for years and years.

I use these. I like the way they absorb water well and don’t need ironing.

Far worse things have been washed and put away with no ill effects I’m sure. Certainly in this house. I will leave it to your imagination …

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 18-May-22 15:40:43

What bacteria would tea towels have on them after washing? I wash mine at 40 degrees, dry them and put away in a cupboard.

Speldnan Wed 18-May-22 14:51:03

Always. They look so much better plus the heat kills any remaining bacteria on them.

MissAdventure Wed 18-May-22 14:48:48

I iron school uniform almost every day and t shirts (his, not mine)

Jaberwok Wed 18-May-22 14:48:14

or by touching newly washed clothes! Surely that's taking hygiene just a bit too far?! confused

AreWeThereYet Wed 18-May-22 14:47:22

Doing the ironing is one of the few times I watch TV, or a box set, or a film. I watch the things Mr A doesn't like but I enjoy, like period dramas or Strictly. I can spend a very happy couple of hours ironing on my own in the kitchen, something interesting on TV, and supplied with cups of coffee by Mr A at regular intervals.

Jaberwok Wed 18-May-22 14:45:09

I've always been a reluctant ironer, and never ironed bedding, underclothes, tea towels or the other sort in my life. Now I iron absolutely nothing unless we are 'going out' or the odd blouse very occasionally. As for bacteria?! Neither of us have ever suffered any ill effects in 58 years through lack of ironing!!

MissAdventure Wed 18-May-22 14:41:29

Really?
Well, you live and learn, not that I'm going to be washing my hands after touching newly washed clothes.

MayBee70 Wed 18-May-22 14:36:07

Linen makes me itch in the way that wool does….

Hetty58 Wed 18-May-22 14:24:47

MissAdventure: 'Do any remain?' (bacteria) Yes they do - so we're advised to wash our hands after touching 'clean' laundry! (Still, I don't iron, as I don't enjoy it.)

singingnutty Wed 18-May-22 14:23:47

I avoid ironing as much as I can but wear lots of cotton clothes and find they need ironing if I dry them on the washing line outside. If I have the iron on I do iron tea towels but wouldn’t do it otherwise.

Hetty58 Wed 18-May-22 14:18:53

Beau1958, (as you asked) yep, you're completely mad - as there's so many interesting ways to spend your time!

MissAdventure Wed 18-May-22 14:02:31

Oh linen.
The minute you sit down you ("one") will look like a broken accordion.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 18-May-22 12:29:21

I have just been ironing a linen top. What a faff. Why are all women’s summer clothes made of bloody linen??

AussieNanna Wed 18-May-22 11:58:39

I never iron tea towels

I iron some things - work pants, jeans and some shirts - but never tea towels.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 18-May-22 11:04:44

Ooh Maw, I will be judged on the state of my tea towel drawer and found wanting. You won’t tell anyone will you??
