Do you iron tea towels

Sorry ‘no credit’ not *nor edit’

My mother ironed everything that she washed, even dusters, I don’t recall that she ever said that she liked doing it, although she really excelled at it. Maybe laundering was her ‘thing’, her whites were blindingly white! Suffice it to say these genes have bypassed me - I only have a a fleeting relationship with my iron. On the other hand, somehow I have appear to have reared excellent ironers, something that I can take nor edit for at all.

Gulp I iron everything except underwear, including tea towels and could not bear to put un-ironed bedding on the bed, especially the spare ones when visitors arrive - I think its my military background . However, reading the comments on the "tips for an easy life" thread, a lot of posters spoke about getting organised, decluttering and tidying things up. Ironing is part of this for me - tea towels sit straight in the drawer and not one big tangled mess. I pair all socks up(for instance) (I don't iron them) so that I can just go to the drawer and pick a pair out (as can hubby). I have friends who are always late as they iron nothing but don't want to wear un-ironed things. However they leave it until they are getting ready to go out and then have to start putting up the ironing board. That would stress me out 100%. I hate being late and I hate being untidy (in myself and my home). I can't stand seeing a washing basket full of un-ironed clothes/bedding etc. However, I can see where folk come from when they say they save a lot of time because its not my favourite past time either, but a little OCD on my part

haven't ironed anything since my girls left school they are now 37 & 40. Both their husbands do their household's ironing as I never showed them how.

I don't iron anything! But I pay someone to do my ironing and that includes tea towels.

Yes, of course iron tea towels, like you I love seeing them looking clean and fresh in the drawer. Never iron underwear, but always bedding. I actually enjoy ironing though, pop on an old film and away I go !

Same here I iron everything except socks. My Mother did, my eldest sister doesn't iron unless it's absolutely essential, she thinks I'm mad for ironing my bedding. I tried not to but was anxious how messy a fresh bed looked.

Don’t really use them as tea towels. The stuff goes in the dishwasher or drains. Mine are either used instead of oven gloves or hand wipers. Never iron them. Folded and put away after washing.

Yes I iron tea towels and bedding and anything else that is creased after washing and drying. I couldn’t go to bed in unironed bedding, but that’s just me. I have never ironed socks or underwear and neither did my mother!

Do you know how many books there are in the world to read….. why would you do these banal tasks … I iron nothing ….. not even shirts….they are hung on line on hangers. No need to iron modern fabrics…. my daughter does not own an iron.

Yes you are mad to be honest. There are better things to be done with time. Oh and why can't your husband iron? My ex was brilliant at ironing. I would not believe anyone who says they cannot iron....it is not rocket science. all my clothes are cotten or linen so they are ironed. I have never ever ironed my knickers though. If your husband expects his underwear ironed tell him to do it himself and then find a good book to read....

I never iron anything unless it's really screwed up or if hubby asks very nicely! Life is too short!

Crumbs! I avoid anything that needs ironing unless it's absolutely necessary - and by that I mean it has to be creased beyond wearing out to an event. I've NEVER ironed a tea towel as far as I recall - it gets scrunched up the minute it's used so why bother

Yes I do iron tea towels, I also iron pants my husbands as well, also socks, dusters, towels and flannels. I know I am really sad. I was ironing my grandsons boxers the other day and asked if he would like creases in them for a joke he was mortified.

I do the ironing in our house and yes, tea towels are ironed. The odd t-shirt of mine + summer dresses, quilt covers and pillowcases (sometimes sheets too) + I do his t-shirts, work stuff and jeans. If it doesn't need ironing I won't bother. In winter when I will put a fleece/hoodie over t-shirts I have been known not to bother and pull them out of the ironing pile as nobody will see them a bit creased anyway - as I rarely go out I don't feel the need to iron any more than I need to. Before anyone gets on my case for ironing a few bits that are not mine, there is a lot I am unable to do and he does all of this so I don't mind the few jobs I can manage - he has never asked me, never moaned if I haven't done it and often thanks me when he finds newly ironed bits in his drawers or wardrobe or even left in a pile to be put away by him. I also regularly thank him for all he does to help me too - it works both ways.

I have giggled at a few comments and hats off to those who don't or won't iron - I'm nearly at that stage! One of my ex-boyfriends had a mum who ironed/pressed/starched everything, including socks, underwear, flannels, towels etc - I still remember biting my tongue as a teenager that didn't get why these things needed ironing.

I’ve just ironed tea towels and underwear along with duvet cover and bed sheets !
I find it relaxing really.

Sorry forgot to mention that I do a lot of dressmaking so the irons are out almost permanently.

No you're not mad - I do too but only because I hate ironing other peoples' clothes like shirts and trousers. I dig around in the laundry basket for anything other than those so hankies pants and tea towels always get done.

Yes you are, why would you iron tea towels? Or underpants , they would all hard and horrible and lose their softness from the wash

I iron nearly everything as I think unironed clothing can look a bit scruffy and not very fresh. Again I was taught to iron tea towels as the heat would kill any bacteria left after washing.

Heavens no! The only things I iron are pillowcases and shirts. I do like ironed sheets etc but hate ironing and so don't. Saves electricity too.

No. I used to iron everything, but the tumble dryer deals with all that now. I just take them out and fold them. When you think about the hours spent ironing and electricity used by an iron I think it probably works out about the same, but with no effort.
