Your Mythical PhDs

Do you ever dream of doing a PhD? If so what would your subject be?

I would like to investigate The relationship between weather and transient deafness in young people.

(as in why oh why when it is a glorious sunny day do young men (mainly) feel they have to open their car windows and put the stereo on to full volume)

What would your thesis subject be?

Mine would be to research why a cup of tea always tastes 'better', when made 'for' you rather than 'by' you.
This hypothesis could be further investigated with regard to a cup of tea, made by someone other than yourself, brought to you whilst you are still in bed.
I'm happy to do the latter over a lengthy period of time- as it would be for the greater good!
I bet Pantglas would take part too- with her morning chamberpot as part of the evidence gathering wink !

*SD*, not wishing to speak for Mary, but I rather think that it would be a bit of a buswoman’s holiday for us both!
If you are interested, take a look at Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, that is a good, simple introduction to nurture

Thank you.

I have just found a long web page about it.

Talking of wordle, I would investigate why I can complete wordle in 5-10 minutes, share it with my friend, then struggle to remember what the word was an hour (or less) later ?

Me too, Ali23! On the bright side, I can do it twice.....on the phone and then the iPad.

That is definitely my educational area of interest too. Along with Roma children.
We could definitely collaborate (albeit at a distance!)
Or perhaps we could meet up midway at a ‘Spoons? smile

This thread is lighthearted.

However, there could be a new thread where the topics could be discussed seriously.

Maybe a group effort could make a leap forward.

Over to you Fanny.

Whether actors in movies playing the roles of waiters where the actors unhygienically hold glasses by the rim rather than the base are doing what real waiters do or are not portraying the role correctly.

Oh, where is my sense of humour this morning? I can't think of anything light-hearted or not-entirely-serious PhD subjects at all. Having fun reading all yours, though.

I'd like to investigate the old nature v. nurture argument as related to kittens, i.e. does the origin/parentage of the kittens have much influence on their friendliness towards humans depending on whether they have been handled by humans from birth.

Oldnproud Wed 08-Jun-22 10:18:54

Mine will study why the landline only rings when I am in the bathroom (OK, on the loo, to be more exact), and see if there is a relationship between that and the supermarket delivery always arriving the moment I have made a cuppa, even if I have made it 30 mins before the arranged time-slot.

Casdon Wed 08-Jun-22 09:58:40

I’ve been mulling it over, the working title of mine is ‘Men and Fridges’. It will cover these main areas of research:
Buying a fridge - beer versus food space
Using a fridge - use of the ‘piling’ technique when unloading shopping
Wiping up spills as they occur
Starting new things before the old one is finished
Why 14 jars of pickles are essential
The art of fridge gazing

It will be a comparative study, womens’ behaviour around the fridge will be the control, and I will look at the thought patterns, motivations and behaviours of men of different ages. My only concern is whether a lifetime will be long enough to complete.

Marydoll:
*Consider this: if a stag party from Glasgow ventures down to Newcastle or a hen party from Newcastle makes a cross border trip to Glasgow, will the geographical area change their behaviour?
Will they become as one and disrobe, whatever the weather?*

Or will they wrap up warm when the sun comes out?

I totally agree!

This is amazing how many of our PhD subjects are interlinked, with reference to weather and lack of clothing.

In Glasgow, the males of the species disrobe at the least hint of sunshime, however in Newcastle, the females of the species wear less clothing as the temperature drops.
There is a fair bit of research to be done here.

Consider this: if a stag party from Glasgow ventures down to Newcastle or a hen party from Newcastle makes a cross border trip to Glasgow, will the geographical area change their behaviour?
Will they become as one and disrobe, whatever the weather?

I’d like to liaise with *Marydoll’ on Wine Bar Uniform in Newcastle and it’s contribution to reducing the Energy Crisis.

It’s incredible how these skinny little (size8) girls can have an entire night out in The Bigg Market or on The Quayside wearing the minimum amount of clothes, apparently without feeling the cold. Should the secret to keeping warm be several large glasses of wine, I’d try that as a bottle of wine is less than firing up the gas central heating!

Mine would be to investigate the ‘ steamer chair’ effect on Summer. Ever since I treated myself to one 6 weeks ago the weather’s been sh*#e!!

???. Love that Nanna58

Marydoll Tue 07-Jun-22 20:32:17

StarDreamer it is a very complicated subject and too difficult to explain in a post.

Deprivation and lack of nurture may be interlinked, but they can also exist in isolation.
Your suggestion of giving each child educational toys is very simplistic and would not really have any impact.
I suggest you Google, Lack of nurture and brain scans, that would be a start.
Also, try searching for Creating new neural pathways in the brain, that will keep you busy for a while.

However, this was meant to be a lighthearted thread and I do not wish to spoil it.
Anyway, I have other fish to fry and develop my neural pathways, I haven't attempted Wördle auf Deutsch, heute! wink

I'd like to understand more why it is that cats always feel that they're on the wrong side of whatever door is closed.
Also, what is the attraction of me in the bathroom and why I apparently need them to escort me there.

Love it!

So true! I love cats ? ?‍⬛
