WELCOME. How pleased I am to be able to say...we have a new gathering place.

Urmstongran Sat 16-Jul-22 21:27:58

soop my 3 favourite malts:

Glenkinchie
Cardhu
Dalwhinnie

Not oaky, smoky or peaty.

I hope you’re feeling a bit better tonight dear Blossoming you’ve had a tough time of it recently.

Nannytopsy what a gorgeous sunset photo.

Blossoming Sat 16-Jul-22 21:59:21

Good evening dear Kitcheners, it’s been a lovely day here and I have done very little, apart from careful exercising and drinking water. Our lovely nephew called in at lunchtime, he’s special to me as his birthday is the day after mine and I was his babysitter for some years. He is just back from a Lakeland holiday and wanted to tell us about his latest projects. I’m off to bed shortly, we are going to visit family tomorrow for a buffet lunch in the garden and more chat. It’s lovely to get out, and Mr. B will be keeping a beady eye on me! I’m being good, not doing too much.
I’m glad the Glenmorangie went down well, it’s a favourite with both my BiLs too. I have some lovely Coverdale cheese and olive flatbreads, I’ll leave them on the side. They go well with red wine Urms.
Goodnight x

Just sticking my head round the door to say that I’m at last reunited with my ds, dil and GC from America! Three years! It’s as though those three years have never happened, apart from the children being much bigger, of course. ❤️❤️

We took them to a traditional village fete today, which was fun. We queued for ages for ice creams so while I was there, I got enough for everyone in the Kitchen. Enjoy! ? ? ?

Nannytopsy Sat 16-Jul-22 22:11:19

Thank you SueD. Ice cream is always welcome!

Jaxjacky Sat 16-Jul-22 22:28:06

Thank you WhenIwasyourage we’re heading towards 33/34 on Monday, won’t be doing a lot.
What a delightful party Urms enjoyed by all.
MrJ played the charity golf day earlier, v warm, he enjoyed the cake I’d organised ahead of his birthday and had more than his usual two pints! Sleep well all.

riete Sun 17-Jul-22 03:30:29

hi to all, and thank you for the warm welcome soop. i took up your offer of cake. you can probably see some crumbs still clinging around my mouth, and a blob of cream on the end of my nose. (i think it was the second slice that did it.) well, cream cake in this weather, it wouldn't have lasted until tomorrow! (no one need mention the fridge!)
big thanks to all with their photos. always nice to see someone else's. as it's always nice to hear someone else's news. apologies for not replying to anyone properly. hopefully i'll do better next time.

brook2704 Sun 17-Jul-22 09:31:24

Aww a belated Happy Birthday to your Boy Wonder Urms sounds like he had a great day! ⚽️

Dogsmakemesmile Sun 17-Jul-22 09:31:57

Glad you had a lovely meeting with your nephew*Blossoming*.
You must be over the moon SueDonim. What a wonderful time you will be having.
Did you make that cake JaxJacky?
Riete I am not as regular as other posters but wanted to say hello and welcome to the best forum on Gransnet (in my opinion).
Still cool here. Am currently drenching my house plants in the sink. Two of my ACs are down South where it is going to be extremely hot. Both stoic and upbeat but will take care. I must learn not to send handy "tips" to them. I keep thinking of workers who can't take it easier eg posties, home care workers etc. I am very lucky.
Take care everyone. Have as good a day as possible.

annsixty Sun 17-Jul-22 09:51:31

Good morning all.
Suedonim I am beyond thrilled for you that your family are back home with you.
Is it just a short visit or a longer stay?
I know many grans on here are separated from loved ones, Covid has just made things so much worse.

I am suffering from the heat like many of you.
I went out twice on Friday when it wasn’t too bad but for the first time really realised my limitations.
I was exhausted and my second outing of the day was to a friend I see every 3/4 weeks when we meet and have a Chinese takeaway.
I wasn’t the best company I’m sorry to say as I was so tired.
I must learn to not book two things in the same day now I am a very old lady?

I hope you all have the best day you can and stay safe if your region is affected by extreme heat.

Jaxjacky Sun 17-Jul-22 09:57:23

Morning all, there will be more cake in the kitchen later riete we’re going out to lunch with friends, then back to theirs, she’s made MrJ a chocolate and coffee cake sssh, he doesn’t know.
No dogsmakemesmile baking and I don’t get on! I don’t have a sweet tooth so not inclined (lazy).
I’m so happy for you SueD have the most wonderful time.

Yiayia4 Sun 17-Jul-22 10:05:20

Amazing cake Jax have a nice lunch.
Going to be over 30° here?plan on doing nothing.

Blossoming Sun 17-Jul-22 10:09:11

Lovely you have your family with you at last SueD. Mr. B and I are off out shortly, we are seeing our family today. I’ll pop back later, have a happy Sunday and keep cool ?

Grandmabatty Sun 17-Jul-22 13:19:47

Welcome to Riete I'm late to do so. It is very still and warm here in Polmont, but cloudy. I have the front door and the kitchen door wide open but nary a breath of air. So far today I have three washes out, watered the garden, pruned the tomato plants, tidied up and given the door a first top coat of the sage green paint. I have a gammon cooking away in the slow cooker for tonight's dinner. The only problem with having the doors open is the number of flies coming in. So annoying. I'll shortly do a second coat and that will do me for today. JaxJacky a chocolate and coffee cake sounds wonderful. I hope your husband enjoys it. His birthday cake looks fantastic. Blossoming enjoy your family day. Soop I hope you are well. Have a good afternoon kitcheners.

soop Sun 17-Jul-22 13:25:07

riete You are very welcome. Don't fret about not responding to all the posts. I've yet to manage the mammoth task, and I've had lots of practice.
Whereabouts do you live? I live on the Kintyre Peninsula not too far from Campbeltown.

Sue Time for making more precious memories. Enjoy every moment.

Jax Wow! The cake is most certainly super special.

Urms Yes to both Cardhu and Dalwhinnie. We are not familiar with Glenkinchie. I am also not fond of peaty malts. Mr S is partial to Laphroig, the smell of which reminds me of disinfectant.

Our neighbour had a birthday in the week. We've been invited in for a drink and nibbles this afternoon. It is much warmer today, 'though a long way short of scorching temperatures down south.

We heard at breakfast time, that the wife of a very good friend has died after many months of ill health. He will be heartbroken, having nursed her for a long time at home. She died in hospital.

brook2704 Sun 17-Jul-22 17:08:40

How wonderful that you’ve got your family with you SueD enjoy every single minute!
That’s a brilliant looking cake Jax thanks for sharing the picture and to have another cake too - how fantastic! The coffee and chocolate one sounds delicious
It’s the same sort of weather here grandmabatty cloudy, so still and very warm about 24º, I’ve done 2 loads of washing and half heartedly been pottering in the garden. Hope the front door is looking good with its first top coat
Hi riete lovely to see you in the kitchen ?
Sorry to hear about your friends wife soop sending condolences to the family
Roast chicken and salad later, too hot for the roasties and veg today!

Charleygirl5 Sun 17-Jul-22 17:27:00

As said on an earlier thread I cannot look at my air fryer as it is 29C here in London and it is evening. tonight will be the same as last, chicken with salad and I did not cook the chicken- Waitrose kindly sold it.

I am not too sure what I will be doing on Tuesday when it hits 40C here in London. My electric fan was stolen so that will not help. It was dinky enough to fit in a carrier bag. I had bought it for Tara my cat when she was alive. It was superb for the odd half an hour which is all I needed it for being a cold morsel. My 15 tog duvet is not far away in case hypothermia hits unexpectedly!

Look after yourselves.

cornergran Sun 17-Jul-22 19:02:21

Oh dear, charley. That’s not good. We’ve got a Dyson and a more traditional fan at the ready. Not needed so far, our usual coastal howling gale is proving very useful. We’re on 25 degrees at the moment, not too bad. Suspect tomorrow may be a different matter.

It was cool enough for a potter in the garden this morning while the laundry dried on the line. Mr C ironed it - no, I didn’t refuse his insane offer! Cooked and enjoyed paella for our meal. We thought it went with the heat smile. Tomorrow its back to salad.

Sad news for you soop, I’m so sorry. The poor family.

Please slow down grandmabatty, I’m feeling exhausted just reading what you have beeen up to.

You must be beyond excited sued, I’m delighted your family has made it.

I can recall no more, my apologies. No need to worry about commenting on everything riete, it’s almost impossible. Or it is for me grin. A belated welcome from me.

Off to sit in the garden with a coffee. The weather forecaster has just told us we can expect 34 degrees tomorrow, going out to enjoy the relative cool while I can.

TOYA. Be careful out there everyone.,

Bellanonna Sun 17-Jul-22 19:17:30

I’m sorry, soop ?

Grandmabatty Sun 17-Jul-22 20:00:11

That is very sad Soop. Don't worry, Cornergran. Apart from a haircut tomorrow, I will be very lazy..Good evening to you all.

Jaxjacky Sun 17-Jul-22 20:24:52

Lots of spare cake on the side, the first one is multi layered chocolate, grandchildren have taken a wedge but lots to share.
Having said I don’t have a sweet tooth Eton mess appeared for my dessert at lunch, it was lovely, nothing else needed this evening.
How very sad soop his heart must be broken. I used to drink malts, Mum bought Dad a whole barrel? of Aberlour many years ago, it was delivered in bottles with his name on the labels many months later. I liked Highland Park, sort of went off it, tastes change.
Well that’s rubbish Charley how very selfish of the thief, I hope it’s broken now.
Have a good evening all x

Hellogirl1 Sun 17-Jul-22 20:38:57

HELP! My microwave has a mirrored door, which regularly has what look like scuff marks on it. I clean it and it looks lovely for about 5 minutes, then the marks come back. What am I doing wrong, or what is the right thing to do?

Nannytopsy Sun 17-Jul-22 20:43:04

Just sitting thinking about a meal but I’m not really hungry! A bacon and pickled beetroot sandwich maybe?
We have had the pressure washer out and cleaned the patio! It took two sessions, as it was rather hot in the middle of the day, so we had to watch cricket in the cool. Our patio is a south facing sun trap and it was 37.5 C out there in the shade. The kitchen was only 29 C.
Luckily the front of the house is much cooler.
We have an unopened bottle of Aberlour - DH’s Father’s Day present from DS. I am very fond of the peaty malts but enjoy anything!
Enjoy your evening. Enjoy more cake Reite!

Urmstongran Sun 17-Jul-22 20:54:42

‘Evening All’

Goodness I’m melting! Drinking water +++
(Bet I’m up in the night ha!)
I feel as though I’m going through a second menopause! ... good job this is only set to last till Wednesday.

I’m more comfortable than this in Spain. I think it’s more humid here.

#notnice

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 17-Jul-22 22:41:40

It is very humid here. I went to church this morning and when I got back in my car at 11 am it was already 28 degrees. I managed to walk up to our village hall to look at an exhibition of old photos. It was so hot and still that I felt quite jiggered when I got home. Then I had a migraine - I had one yesterday too. I was going to cook a lasagne for dinner but OH popped over to Waitrose and bought a paella. We watched the final episodes of series four of Killing Eve.

Blossoming Sun 17-Jul-22 23:12:03

Good evening dear Kitcheners, we have had a lovely day. Family all looking well and we had some shady places to sit and chat. Delicious buffet, journey there and back went smoothly, the motorway was quieter than a normal Sunday. No traffic jams which I hate when it’s hot! Very tired now, it’s cooled down to 20°C so I think we’re in for a hot night.

Sleep well x
