WELCOME. How pleased I am to be able to say...we have a new gathering place.

Blossoming Tue 28-Jun-22 17:09:33

Good evening lovely Kitcheners. I have been forced to tidy some of my art materials grin. I have put some things I know I won’t need for a little while in a wall cupboard, which I can only reach using my handy little folding steps. Mr. B was busy replacing a faulty light switch so he didn’t see me. I’m back on terra firma now and the new light switch is working perfectly. Hope you’re enjoying your walk Brook, I’m settled down with sketch book and a selection of pens and pencils.
Cock a Leekie soup for tea later, it’s wet and windy here today. Hope the telephone appointment goes well soop.
Hope all our invalids and poorly family/friends are on the mend. TOYA

ShazzaKanazza Tue 28-Jun-22 17:45:36

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners.
Naughtyneine your description of a mammogram is spot on. It really made me giggle. Mind you I’d rather have a million of them rather than one smear test. Now I could really desribe that awful procedure ?

Soop hope your discussion with the consultant on Thursday is fruitful in relation to your hormone imbalance.
I broke the news to my Wimbledon crazy mother today that Berratini the Italian is out with covid. She was gutted. I’d never heard of him. She said ‘Google him Shaz he’s so gorgeous. At 79 the girl has still got it!! That’s my mum. ?

I’ve been to Bridlington today to visit my uncle. He always drives me to drink so DH handed me a glass of wine as I walked through the door.
We are having some ribs on the bbq for tea with veg.
Wishing you all a lovely evening. Speak soon x ?

Bellanonna Tue 28-Jun-22 17:54:21

Shazza I’m with you on that (mammogram over smear test)
At my age (81) we are not called for either but I am “allowed” to request a mammogram 3-yearly. The next one is due next year. I’ll pass on the smear though.

brook2704 Tue 28-Jun-22 19:01:30

Yikes it’s been a very blustery day for walking today! Did our walk and didn’t get too wet until reaching Fowey but then the rain came in. What a beautiful place to live though soop, I really liked Fowey despite the rain. Your shop sounds interesting, what did you sell? We got the most enormous Cornish pasty from a bakery and enjoyed it on the quayside. We’ve took the ferry and crossed over the river and tonight we’re staying in a little B&B in Polruan and walking to Polperro tomorrow.
Your description of the mammogram was so funny naughtyneine but spot on - awful the things we have to go through
Lovely lunch yia happy holidays
Hope your DGS is feeling a bit better grandmabatty and your DH is getting stronger everyday grannmarie

SueDonim Tue 28-Jun-22 19:14:15

I hope your GS soon feels better, Grandmabatty. flowers. My GD is in full chickenpox mode right now. Hopefully she’ll turn the corner by tomorrow. I think CP must be everywhere - a poor dad was begging on a local FB page today for calamine lotion or cream for his child and everywhere has sold right out of it!

Ive been quite productive today, making phone calls about things then going into town to get my car valeted (the men earned their money, I can tell you! blush), picking up food for the next few days and returning an item to a shop. Dh had to find a shirt for our friend’s funeral later this week. I chatted to a lady outside the fitting room, who was helping her dad get a shirt for her mum’s funeral - all rather sad. Dh forgot a tie so we ended up going to Next to find something on our way back to my (clean) car.

I was cheered by a bargain in the M&S cafe, though! The bill for a cake and coffee each came to £5. Apparently I had a free coffee on my Sparks card and Dh unwittingly chose a £3 coffee & cake deal so it was a good deal!

The weather is windy here and sunny on and off. We had a brief sprinkle of rain, that’s all.

Wishing you all a quiet evening. TOYA. XX

Grandmabatty Tue 28-Jun-22 19:19:27

Brook that sounds idyllic. Isn't Fowey where Agatha Christie lived? Thank you everyone for your kind words regarding dgs1. According to his mum, he's a bit better although still complaining of a sore ear. Dd is in the wars too! She has a frozen shoulder she thinks and is in agony. Oh dear. Yiayia I wish I was in Corfu right now. It's cold and wet in central Scotland. ? Soop I hope your talk with the consultant sorts things out. I've had a quiet day just pottering. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

Jaxjacky Tue 28-Jun-22 19:19:59

Thought of you today seeing the weather forecast down there brook.
The most painless mammogram I’ve ever had was last year when I was referred to the breast clinic, maybe because I was so scared, all was fine.
Your mother has excellent taste Shazza!
Two hours of bowls this afternoon, only the third time I’ve played, muscles pinging and a slight touch of wind burn, I’ll sleep well.
MrJ is off tomorrow for three days golf, he’s like an excited three years old!
Cottage pie in the oven. Have a good evening all x

brook2704 Tue 28-Jun-22 19:47:30

Aww hoping your DGD gets over her chicken pox soon SueD I remember giving it to two of my DGC when I had shingles a couple of years ago - just before Christmas too ?‍♀️
I’m not sure where Agatha Christie lived grandmabatty but I do know that Dawn French lives in Fowey, I think we might have walked past her house today - you couldn’t see much as it was behind big iron gates and a high wall but it looked very nice - like a big mansion overlooking the sea
Well done with 2 hours of bowls Jax I’ve never played myself, what sort of bowls is it and do you play individually or in teams?
Hope your DDs shoulder is better soon too grandmabatty

Jaxjacky Tue 28-Jun-22 20:30:49

It’s lawn green brook inside in the winter months, playing in teams, Tuesday afternoons it’s ladies, sort of practice/improvement, Friday from 5, mixed, same thing.
I don’t expect to make a proper team for a while, if ever, meeting new people, learning and exercise suits me for now.

brook2704 Tue 28-Jun-22 20:35:26

That sounds good Jax thanks for the explanation, it sounds like you really enjoy it

I’ve just found out from the lady at our B&B that Dawn French has moved from her house in Fowey - she’s somewhere else now!

Naughtyneine Tue 28-Jun-22 20:42:40

Don't get me started on smear tests... For a fairly intelligent (albeit blonde) female... Everytime I was told told to put my ankles together and drop my knees I did the opposite.... When I was heading towards a hysterectomy my consultant who looked just like Michael Kitchen of Foyles War who seemed to be spending an inordinate amount of time with his miners lamp and a contraption buried deep within my nethers that after about 10 minutes I actually said to him... Michael are you having trouble tuning into Channel 4. His reply was I'm trying to find your right ovary.... As it has been removed 10 years before he could have been there quite a while. Mind you this is the person who was told when they went into hospital to have their first baby....Mrs ....... You are going to have to take your knickers off to have this baby. What more can I say ladies.

Nannytopsy Tue 28-Jun-22 22:54:33

DGC recently had chicken pox. The most soothing thing was porridge oats put into a gauze bag and put into the bath. It makes the water milky. DGS loved it. That reminds me, the bath still needs cleaning … ?‍?

soop Wed 29-Jun-22 12:24:45

Naughtyneine Your message has made me laugh out loud.

soop Wed 29-Jun-22 12:47:22

brook Agatha Christie had a home on the River Dart in Devon.
The shop that I managed sold quilts and beautiful bedding, clothing, some furniture (inc antique beds), bric-a brac and lavender by the scoop full. It was extremely busy in the summer months. On one day in the winter, I had sold "b all" and therefore bought several scoops of lavender in order to have cash in the till. There were four shops originally. The wee Fowey shop was very profitable. She says modestly. hmm

Baggs Wed 29-Jun-22 12:52:39

Nneine ???

soop Wed 29-Jun-22 13:00:53

Grandmabatty and Sue Healing, tender vibes for your poorly grandchildren.
Sue Your M&S cake & coffee deal was spot on.

Blossoming Your recent art tidy-away has reminded me that I need to follow suit.

Shazza I am almost 81 and I agree that Berratini is a delicious specimen. wink

We were drinking early morning tea in bed and watching the birds having a wild old time on the peanuts. An entire family of blue tits, at least eight, that we could see, were having a banquet. Along came the Woodpecker. We were surprised when a second clung to the bark of the tree and was fed by what must have been the parent bird. They appeared to be the same size. Sat with camera and long lens poised for a photo. Sadly, the younger bird flew into the high branches and we couldn't capture the two together.

ShazzaKanazza Wed 29-Jun-22 13:35:07

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. I’m just making a chilli for tea. Making it now so I can focus on DGS when he’s here after school. I’ll send a tubful home with DS if GS wants to go straight home when he picks him up.
DH is asleep on the sofa next to me he’s been to walking football today. I’ve works my socks off in the gym.

Suedonim hope your GD feels better soon. My GD has avoided all the chicken pox so far going around nursery and pre school but it’s good to get at a young age. My sister got it when she was 16 and she was very poorly.
Soop it’s so uplifting seeing the birds isn’t it. We haven’t seen the woodpecker for a few months but we’ve had to change all the feeders so it can’t hang upside down on them now.
Naughtyneine another funny description it made me laugh.
My cousin in law when she had a procedure said to the dr as he was shining a light up ‘I feel like my is performing on the stage’ ?

Going off to finish the chilli. I’ll catch up with your news later. ?

ShazzaKanazza Wed 29-Jun-22 13:38:48

Sorry I meant to say I worked my socks off and also she said her f was performing on the stage. Well you all know what I meant lol.
I didn’t read through it very well.

SueDonim Wed 29-Jun-22 14:38:39

Thank you for the good wishes for the Spotty One. She seems to be not too bad in herself. My dd, her mum, had it when she was 15 and as you say, Shazza she was very poorly indeed and has quite bad facial scarring from it. Good to get it over with when young!

Speaking of dd, her morning got off to an unusual start. She’d left a pot soaking overnight and when she emptied it out she looked into the sink to see a little bat flapping around in the water! It must have been hanging onto the side. She scooped it out and her Dh dried it out with kitchen towel and then placed it on the windowsill outside, when it promptly tried to get back in again. The window was firmly closed this time! ?

Soop your job sounds lovely! ❤️ We visited Agatha Christie’s house in Devon a few years ago. It was idyllic, I could see myself living there. (Couldn’t we all!)

My car has gone into the garage today as the computer thingy is playing up. They have a new check in system for when you take the car in. Lots of buttons to press on a screen and then options trying to sell you stuff. When that’s all done, a little door pops open and you put your keys in there and off you go, all done remotely. Only they had a chap there to guide me though as it’s their first day and I was only the fifth person to use it. I’ll let you know if it gives my keys back tonight! grin

Dogsmakemesmile Wed 29-Jun-22 15:29:16

I think I just deleted myself...Will start again. Recovering from two days of childcare. Introduced DGD2 to disco dancing. She was quickly enamoured of it and obviously the better dancer. She kept saying "play happy music" so I did.
Blitzed house.
Ddog walked so settling down to catching up. Blustery and warm here so threw a couple of days' washing on line. Had awful problems sleeping in the muggy weather so appreciate the coolness.
Sorry. Doorbell!

soop Wed 29-Jun-22 15:38:41

Sue I lived in Kingswear (Devon) for a time. Used to take the ferry to Dartmouth every day where I worked in a photographers studio.

When I worked in Fowey (Cornwall) I had several customers who were "celebrities". I won't mention names because it doesn't seem appropriate. Cliff Richards had a holiday home for a time.

ShazzaKanazza Wed 29-Jun-22 16:07:24

You sound like you’ve moved around a lot Soop and had an interesting life xx

soop Wed 29-Jun-22 16:28:20

Shazza I have been happiest since marrying MrS in 1988. We are both happiest living here in Kintyre. He was born in Cornwall. We met in Devon.

Andy Murray is due to come on court soonish. I cannot miss his game. He needs me to shout words of encouragement. grin

The woodpecker's youngster (that we hoped to photograph as it was being fed peanuts by the parent bird), flew up high into the branches. Mr S managed to photograph it, but was sorry not to have captured a shot of the two together.

TOYA. I shall return to our kitchen tomorrow. smile moon

Blossoming Wed 29-Jun-22 16:35:55

SueDonim I once rescued a bat from the kitchen sink when we were staying in a holiday cottage not far from Soop’s current home. I picked him up with the aid of a tea towel and placed him in a nearby tree once he had dried out a little. Such a delicate wee thing.

A frustrating day today, I had a telephone appointment booked with the cancer support team this morning, booked by them 3 months ago, but have heard nothing. I checked my online appointments and it is there, so I haven’t made a mistake. I will wait and see if they contact me. I’m not badly in need of support at this stage, but I do have some questions about my treatment pathway and what to expect. If I haven’t heard in a week or so I’ll ring the number they gave me that I can contact ‘at any time’. I don’t cope well with unexpected changes in routine or plans. I can deal with my dodgy memory by writing all appointments down, double checking and putting in my iPad reminders, but when the unexpected happens I’m left floundering. Oh well …

Blossoming Wed 29-Jun-22 16:42:30

Dogsmakemesmile Dancing to happy music sounds like a great way to spend some time, and marvellous exercise too!
