I'm not too keen on either the dress itself or the appearance of the bust and sleeves - or is it me?
Faces good, tho '?

She’s got no toes!
Think her eyes are wrong.
Too dark a picture.

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 11:06:48

grin
I hadn't noticed the toelessness.

Fernhillnana Sat 25-Jun-22 11:30:41

I imagine Holbein and Gainsborough spinning in their graves.

Nanna58 Sat 25-Jun-22 11:31:24

I think the toelessness due to shoe being so high her foot is like a ski slope- mark my words that girl is heading for orthopaedic hell! Painting doesn’t do them justice IMHO

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 11:36:25

It certainly doesn't highlight the fact that they are, apparently, the new, young, modern face of the monarchy, to me.
It wouldn't look out of place with all the other fusty old portraits that hang around the palace walls.

Lip56 Sat 25-Jun-22 11:49:54

I think it’s awful, wonder if they themselves like it ?
Would they have had choice to keep or scrap ? LOL

Galaxy Sat 25-Jun-22 11:52:19

Yes presumably you have to just smile and ooh lovely.

b1zzle Sat 25-Jun-22 11:59:22

Not too keen. It's more like a painting that's trying to be a photo. Kate's face and hair don't look like her. Would probably look more at home in Madame Tussaud's..

TanaMa Sat 25-Jun-22 11:59:43

Absolutely ghastly! Too old fashioned and stuffy and doesn't even look natural, just an enlarged photo.. This is a young modern couple trying to bring the Monarchy 'up to date'. There were many other poses that would have been more natural and suited to them. Such a pity.

Seabreeze Sat 25-Jun-22 12:03:43

Awful. Kate should have Worn blue it’s her colour. Williams head seems to come in narrow at the ears making his head a weird shape.

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:04:51

Like a light bulb?

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:06:32

Clunk from "stop the pigeon".

Sawsage2 Sat 25-Jun-22 12:09:30

Awful

Glorianny Sat 25-Jun-22 12:15:38

I know I shouldn't but I can't resist it. Do you think there is some connection between one hand straying behind her back and the other one stuck in his pocket??? (Naughty, Naughty Glorianny !)
Does anyone know where it is going to hang (in an attic somewhere???)

Treelover Sat 25-Jun-22 12:15:41

no for me.. bad likenesses bad painting and absurd lighting on her breasts.

JaneJudge Sat 25-Jun-22 12:17:20

grin at Dilly saying William's head looks like a potato

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:19:13

So speaks the gransnet art appreciation group. grin

Galaxy Sat 25-Jun-22 12:19:56

High brow we are.

M0nica Sat 25-Jun-22 12:35:15

*MissAdventure, yes and? This is publlic art and is free to comment by the public

Should we all have to have degrees in Fine Art before we dare comment n this rather pedestrian painting?

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:38:50

It was a joke, M0nica.
That's all.

Callistemon21 Sat 25-Jun-22 12:38:59

MissAdventure

So speaks the gransnet art appreciation group. grin

Catherine has a degree in Art History!!
Is that why they both look slightly embarrassed as if they're holding back giggles?

That is my profound judgement.

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:41:28

I wonder what they think of the portrait, really?
I suppose they must like it?
Or do they get home and say "Did you see my head looked like a potato?"

aggie Sat 25-Jun-22 12:42:41

As a work of art it fails , as a portrait it fails , as inspiration it fails spectacularly

JaneJudge Sat 25-Jun-22 12:43:39

I do actually have an art based degree

JaneJudge Sat 25-Jun-22 12:44:02

and I quite liked the painting but I do think his head looks like a potato
