I'm not too keen on either the dress itself or the appearance of the bust and sleeves - or is it me?
Faces good, tho '?

The dress is ghastly not Kate at all, she usually wears such lovely clothes. It is stuffy and as most say William is totally out of proportion Kate is prettier and younger in the flesh that she is in this painting. Not my taste at all.

No shes gone home and said do you think anyone noticed the toes, we are so close to world domination we dont want any slips up before the final invasion of toeless potato heads.

volver Sat 25-Jun-22 12:48:22

That made me choke on my coffee. ??

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:49:40

grin priceless!

JaneJudge Sat 25-Jun-22 12:50:33

??????

Joseanne Sat 25-Jun-22 12:57:11

So if William is a King Edward, his is kids must be baby royal potoatoes or Charlottes.
Do we roast them or mash them?

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 12:58:42

I think we could just carry on roasting them. smile

CBBL Sat 25-Jun-22 13:01:57

I'm not really sure about it. I don't think Catherine is captured exactly, and I dislike the "hands in pockets" from William - though I guess he is trying to look casual!

MissAdventure

I wonder what they think of the portrait, really?
I suppose they must like it?
Or do they get home and say "Did you see my head looked like a potato?"

??

Nagmad2016 Sat 25-Jun-22 14:29:59

As soon as I saw this portrait I though it looked a bit old and dowdy for this pair. They are young, and have a vitality that this portrait does not show. I've seen much better pictures (photographs) that show them off in a much better way.

Lucca Sat 25-Jun-22 14:30:09

Modernising the monarchy it ain’t.

What shall we wear for the portrait ?
You wear that slippery green dress that does something risqué to your boobs .
Ok and you could wear that suit that makes your head look like a King Edward ( oops …)

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 14:36:10

I know, I'll do something extraordinarily "with it" and put a hand in my pocket! Sick!

Maywalk Sat 25-Jun-22 14:42:55

Looking at it from the eyes of a 92 year old I THINK ITS GREAT and when looking back in time and remembering some of the so called paintings that is passed as art, I can at least make out who it is.

Well Done the artist.

She wore the dress in Ireland a few years ago, apparently

But obviously not the same bra under it!

My first thought on seeing the portrait was "This young woman needs proper advice about buying a bra!"

As a formal portrait goes it is all right - you surely didn't expect them to be portrayed in jeans and sneakers, did you?

Parsley3 Sat 25-Jun-22 15:12:27

I doubt that the artist was briefed to make William look like Mr Potatohead and to give Catherine some boobage but that is the result. The background puzzles me. Portrait of the Cambridges in no man’s land with a downpipe.

Lucca Sat 25-Jun-22 15:13:00

Nobody mentioned jeans and sneakers FGS

It’s just a boring rather stuffy portrait

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jun-22 15:27:47

Jeans and trainers would be more fitting for today's world, I think.
He's still a prince, whatever he wears.

Joseanne Sat 25-Jun-22 15:53:04

Perhaps someone from Cambridge can verify? The background is supposed to reflect the tones and colours of many of its historical stone buildings. I've been to Cambridge a few times, but can't say I noticed many downpipes?

hollysteers Sat 25-Jun-22 17:10:08

A competent portrait, taking no risks, but just missed a true likeness of Catherine.
William has an odd shaped head in real life.

GrammarGrandma Sat 25-Jun-22 17:56:43

But William DOES have a funny shaped head! I think it's a poor piece of art.

EMMF1948 Sat 25-Jun-22 18:05:00

I think it's awful, she reminds me of that Jones woman who's always moaning in the Mail on Sunday!

Yes, it's somehow not showing their personalities - a shame
Bland and boring and not showing her vitality or his kindness.

It's just rather odd.

Joseanne Sat 25-Jun-22 18:24:04

Neither does it show any great rapport between them which is a shame. In true life they are far more connected.

buffyfly9 Sat 25-Jun-22 18:49:21

I've looked at this picture so many times that it's doing my head in. The skill of the artist is without doubt, in fact at first I thought I was looking at a photograph. Anatomically it just isn't right to me. The bust is not right but I can't put my finger on it (if you know what I mean). William is just not right, full stop. His head is a peculiar shape and his pelvic area is too small for the rest of his body, he looks anorexic, in fact both of them do. I rest my case.hmm
