I’ve been meaning to do a thread about this for a while: Myers-Briggs ?

Hello!
So no time like the present…
The Myers-Briggs Personality Test; otherwise known as 16 Personality Types.
I first did it several years ago.
It’s very interesting (well, I think so!)
Here is the link…

These links are good.

www.myersbriggs.org/my-mbti-personality-type/mbti-basics/

www.myersbriggs.org/my-mbti-personality-type/mbti-basics/the-16-mbti-types.htm

But I have not (at this time) found anything that lists the letter codes with the names that people are stating here.

So from where do the one word summaries come?

FannyCornforth Wed 29-Jun-22 07:05:29

SD
This page explains the letter codes.
(At the end of the section!)
Each abbreviation in the personality codes refers to the following sections:

Mind
Energy
Nature
Tactics
Identity

And each subsection contains two variables eg. ‘Mind’ can either be Extrovert or Introvert (hence the first letters in the code - Ex or Int)

I saw on another thread that you mentioned that you have found it a helpful resource; I’m pleased that you have enjoyed it. smile

Thank you Fanny, just like Howard Gardener's multiple intelligences test, mine was spot on. I am an Advocate.

I used to be sceptical about these tests, until I needed to do some research for a thesis. They are fascinating.
I don't think anyone will be surprised to hear that my dominant intelligence is linguistic. ?

Not meaning to hijack your thread, Fanny, but for anyone who is interested:

Hello Marysmile
I was just thinking of you; I knew that you’d enjoy it.

I am an Advocate too!

It’s quite odd because it’s very widely believed that is Advocates are the rarest type; and yet there are quite a few GNers who are Advocates.
Very interesting stuff.
I will have to update my Gransnet Archetype - she is now a Scottish retired teacher called Kate, who shops at SeaSalt and is an Advocate on the Myers Briggs scale!

I haven’t done the test for a while, so shall do it later to see if I have changed at all.

I’ll do yours now…

I too am a defender.

FannyCornforth Wed 29-Jun-22 07:56:07

Mary My Spacial Awareness Intelligence was highest, followed by the Verbal one; and Maths and then Kinaesthetics were lowest.

(I did notice that questions 1 and 4 were identical - ironically a question about noticing text!)

GrannyGravy13 Wed 29-Jun-22 08:13:49

I am a defender, I think that sums me up.

Joseanne Wed 29-Jun-22 08:16:56

I always thought GN was a microcosm of society!

I am An adventurer which to my mind doesn’t fit at all, the least adventurous person I know. Cautious would define me better.

Urmstongran Wed 29-Jun-22 08:32:37

Someone I know doesn’t rate MB assessments. It’s now put me in mind of a bit of fun - like an in depth horoscope. I can’t be bothered reading all the detail now but then again, maybe that’s just because I’m #lazygran!
?

FannyCornforth Wed 29-Jun-22 08:40:34

Urms there’s always someone ready to pooh pooh anything (usually because they think that they know better)
It sounds like ‘someone’ has made you question yourself!
MB is simply repeating back what you have ‘told’ it, and considering how your answers relate to each other.
To my mind it’s more than a ‘bit of fun’

GrannyGravy13 Wed 29-Jun-22 08:50:17

I am going to repeat the test when I finish this course of steroids (another 42 days to go).

I am interested to see if in a different headspace I will get a different outcome,

dragonfly46 Wed 29-Jun-22 08:51:16

I thought mine was pretty accurate. Scarily so!

AuntieEleanorsCat Wed 29-Jun-22 08:51:39

Logistician here too!

FannyCornforth Wed 29-Jun-22 08:53:40

I’ve just completed the test again.
It was about five years ago that I last did it; and about 15 years since I first did it.
I’ve consistently been an Advocate.

Assessments like these are a helpful tool for teachers, when working with children and trying to break down barriers to learning for those pupils..

Iam64 Wed 29-Jun-22 09:02:29

‘Someone I know doesn’t rate M-B assessments’. Ok that dismisses them totally then ?

Someone I know used them extensively in her working life. Found them a real aid to many aspects of her role.

Does my someone rule out urmston’ d someone. Or is it one balanced out the other

Urmstongran Wed 29-Jun-22 09:11:12

My comment wasn’t meant to annoy or upset anyone. Yes Fanny it did just make me question it, that’s all. ? No harm done! I’m inherently lazy. And it’s a lot of deeper reading. It’s just my personal decision. Once someone (academic) gives me an alternative take on things I start to doubt the veracity of this tool. Never mind, I’m not being assessed for a job if I regard it as a bit of fun!

Iam64 Wed 29-Jun-22 09:13:45

Urmston - just to clarify I wasn’t upset or annoyed. Personality tests like psychological assessments are often dismissed, despite being accurate. I’ve just been reading about Trump’s behaviour around the storming of the capital. Maybe one of us could complete a MB based on what we know of him ???

Audun Wed 29-Jun-22 09:16:16

Very interesting, as mine is Mediator. I have done this kind of test before in a working with groups setting, and got thecsame result. Fascinating, as I can see these traits in myself clearly. Thank you! I enjoyed this.

FannyCornforth Wed 29-Jun-22 09:21:41

I think that anything that aids out understanding of ourselves and each other is a good thing.
I also know that many people have derived more than a degree comfort from feeling more understood themselves.

Iam64 Wed 29-Jun-22 09:21:41

Waves to Auden - another mediator

Maggiemaybe Wed 29-Jun-22 09:36:08

I was a Defender 15 minutes ago. Forgot to save my results and hadn’t checked it out properly, so did the test again and now I’m an Assertive Logistician. Split personality, anyone?

DanniRae Wed 29-Jun-22 09:48:30

I am a Defender. Agreed with most of it!!
