Hello!
Just for a bit of a sunny Saturday chat.
As you probably know, Mumsnet, Reddit and other sites have ‘AMA’s.
(See above - the squid is ‘just because’; don’t worry).
As of just now, I see that Mumsnet have on the go
‘My DH was a member of a cult: AMA’
‘I was on Dragon’s Den: AMA’
‘I was born deaf: AMA’
You get the picture.
My own personal (lighthearted) favourite was from a few years back:
‘I’m your MIL: AMA’
I wanted to do an AMA for a while, but couldn’t think of anything about me that was of much interest; until I landed on my ‘Owl Story’ (which I wheel out at every opportunity).
So, what would your AMA be?
And are we allowed to AYA (please)?
Thank you!

Hair Seth my uncle lived in Werl we visited often and I used to come as child. I love Germany. He’s passed now and is buried there. I miss him so much but I have gained a German family. I hope to go and see them soon.
That was supposed to say Hiraeth.
Secondwind
I’ve been on ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ with Chris Tarrant. AMA
Did you win anything Secondwind? What was your strategy? Did you enjoy the experience?
Ahh *Wetnosewheatie *Werl is about 100 kilometers from where I live as the crow flies ? I love Germany as well and Wales .
Leanetta Good advice you have given. Passed my driving test 55 years ago. Undertaken refresher courses just to make sure I was competent. One piece of advice similar to what you say and I was given long long ago: look as far ahead on the road not just the vehicle in front. Still sticks today. You are to be admired in what you do. Stay safe.
Unfortunately not, Cs783
I never got out of the chair, but I did get to clamber into it, as I won Fastest Finger in the rehearsal. It was THE most frustrating evening of my life!
I never had a strategy other than the phone-a-friends I chose.
There was something about Fastest Finger that surprised me and that was the amount of time that the options took to come up on the screen. Much longer than when you watch it on TV. I was thinking all sorts things and would probably have done better with a clearer mind.
It was very enjoyable and we had a really lovely guy looking after us. We couldn’t have been made more welcome. Never saw anything of Chris Tarrant until the recording was underway and then very briefly for a drink after it was all over.
FannyCornforth oh the owls story does sound interesting… how did that come about? Was it by accident or a concerted effort to look after them that turned into a long term thing?
4allweknow thank you for your kind words. Taking a refresher course is a great idea. Keeps you up to date, and people who are dilligent enough to want to keep their skills up make very good drivers. I am currently parked on an industrial estate near Glasgow - oh the glamour!

Thank you Secondwind I’m dubious about the slowness of response to button press on Pointless, for instance - there they seem to me to spin out the delay. Glad you were well looked after.
I one responded to a Radio Times invite to be filmed on a family holiday for the Travel Show. To my surprise they replied then they were so apologetic for taking 2 days of our fortnight holiday to film a 5 min slot! But we were happy - unpaid of course but special non-crowded entry to several local attractions.
Secondwind Did they put you up in a hotel, pay travel expenses, and provide catering? What if you want to go to the loo during the show?
I had drinks with Prince Andrew and he flirted with me.
Forgot AMA
Did he tempt you to his house saying he would show you the crown jewels hollysters?
Haha,he was moved on to talk to someone else
Holly
Where were you?
Was he at all attractive (be honest!)
Meryl what was Glenda Jackson like?
She sometimes comes across as quite austere.
But I suppose if you didn’t recognise her, she might be quite different to her public persona…
Leanetta
My parents (mom was pregnant with me) found the original two baby owls in a cardboard box on the side of a motorway in Wales.
The plan was for them to go to live at Dudley Zoo, as they couldn’t be released into the wild.
But my mom and dad realised that they could look after them better than the zoo would, so we kept them.
Morning Fanny.
I was on my boat and she was walking down the pontoon and asked me which way the sea was. My boat was on the river Crouch ( Essex)
As it was obvious that the conversation was going to go on a bit I invited her and her male friend onboard for coffee.
Her male friend was Richard Green ( Robin Hood)
I didn’t recognise him, either ?
She was lovely. Probably as you say, I wasn’t star struck.
She was very interested in my boat as it was very old, built in the late 1800s.
That’s lovely Meryl. Glenda must have really enjoyed having a natural chat which wasn’t all about her stardom.
These recollections of meeting famous people in unusual situations has reminded me of this:
When I was in my very early 20s I had a good friend who worked at the BBC at Pebble Mill (he was a runner)
For some reason I was waiting for him in the Green Room.
I was reading the papers with my head down.
A man forcefully held his hand in front of me to shake, and loudly introduced himself as David Rintoul (he was starring in the remake of Dr Finlay’s Casebook)
I looked up and said, ‘Hello, I’m Fanny’ in my Black Country accent.
He literally leapt backwards, whipped his hand away and looked absolutely disgusted.
He obviously thought that I was Sinead OConnor (I did look exactly like her then, and I was often mistaken for her).
He then totally ignored me.
Horrible rude man.
I was on the first series of 15:1. AMA
Treetops That’s my favourite ever quiz show!
How far did you get?
Any memorable questions?
Did you speak to WGS at all, after or before?
I was on that too, Treetops05 and met a couple of really lovely people. I wish I was still in touch with them. Bizarrely, the spouse of one of the other contestants came to work at the same place as me very shortly afterwards!
How gracious was William G Stewart.

I live in Germany. AMA.
Have you visited the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz please? If so, can you write about your visit please?
Sorry, but every time we go to Mainz we only visit the Roman museum, DH having been a Latin teacher. Will make the effort to see the Gutenberg next time we go. We're not far from there.
Why can't I quote a post if it already has a quote in it? Everyone else seems to be able to - I've often seen it.
Thank you. A lot of early printed books were in Latin. In particular the Gutenberg Bible.

You might like to know that there are some videos of Mainz linked from some of the early posts in the following thread.

I know exactly what you mean - I can’t do it either.
I think the others who can do it cut and paste or do something.
