Men going topless

Seen several of them out and about today, including sitting at the table beside ours outside the local cafe. I really wish they'd put on a t shirt. It looks awful.

It's known in Scotland, particularly in the Glasgow area as Tapps aff, it was discussed recently on a thread. Not a nice look at all, especially in supermarkets. Yuk!

NotSpaghetti Wed 13-Jul-22 16:29:34

I think t-shirts at least should be obligatory in restaurants...

Chestnut Wed 13-Jul-22 16:30:23

Much depends on the body! I do think men in shorts usually look abysmal. Not many men can wear a pair of shorts successfully. Good legs and a pair of boots look best. ?

I wonder what would be said if us grans went to lunch topless??
grin

Anyone complaining would be told to mind their own business, it's not up to other people to tell you how to dress. And anyone who doesn't like what they can see can always look away ?

Well I saw one today. Topless, big belly hanging over his trousers. I forgave him as he stopped his large lorry, got out of his cab, held up traffic to help an elderly gentleman who was struggling to get across the road. ?

I think there is a strong correlation between how fat a person (of both sexes) is and the amount of bare flesh they inflict on the rest of us.

BlueBelle Wed 13-Jul-22 16:35:49

I wonder what would be said if the men were moaning about things we were wearing !!! Now there’s a thought
I don’t mind a bare chest (especially if it a well kept one and not an over eating one) You did say eating outside which is very different to going inside a restaurant or cafe
You don’t have to gaze and they re not touching you so why worry ?

Sago Wed 13-Jul-22 16:36:43

Unless by the sea or a swimming pool a top should be worn.
My next door neighbour thinks it’s acceptable to wander around in the street topless.
It’s uncouth.

AGAA4 Wed 13-Jul-22 16:42:27

What is it with men that the minute it goes warm the tops are off. On the beach or sitting in a park is fine but not in shops, cafes or any public building.
They might like their bare flab on display but many don't.

Jaxjacky Wed 13-Jul-22 16:45:36

Not bothered really, live and let live.

NotSpaghetti Wed 13-Jul-22 16:46:07

I don't care what they look like - adonis or round and flabby. It's horrible everywhere except the pool, beach, private garden or (maybe) park.
It's worst in restaurants and not nice in shops in my opinion.

Esspee Wed 13-Jul-22 16:46:34

A bare chested man can make my day but he has to be fit.
Remember that Coke advert with the abseiling window cleaner and all the office workers taking their Diet Coke break to admire him? I loved that ad.
What you usually see on the street however is enough to put you off men for life.

ginny Wed 13-Jul-22 16:49:28

Up to them but not in shops or restaurants. Keep it for the garden or the beach.

JenniferEccles Wed 13-Jul-22 16:56:39

In any case the best way to keep cool is to wear loose clothing in a natural fibre like cotton.

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 13-Jul-22 17:06:01

Thing is, if men can go topless showing their boobs etc., why can’t women? Seriously, it always seems to be overweight, pale and flabby people who go topless or wear tiny shorts. There’s a middle aged man who walks past my house on his way to the shops - he has an enormous tummy which falls in fatty folds almost down to his knees.

I'd say that was totally excusable as he'd been in his own personal space up to that point.
I'd hardly expect him to stop and put a shirt on before he helped the elderly gentleman. Full credit to him for his good deed ?

Kate1949 Wed 13-Jul-22 17:17:24

Yes V3ra. It warmed my heart.

eazybee Wed 13-Jul-22 17:22:36

It's the greasy sweaty body that I dislike.
Saw several wandering around yesterday but don't think they are allowed in supermarkets.

Beautful Wed 13-Jul-22 17:24:17

Proves don't judge a person by appearance ... although when on public transport , restaurants, cafes & shops I think they should put a top on ... when I have been abroad seen notices to this effect

Elizabeth27 Wed 13-Jul-22 17:25:12

I accept that people can dress the way they want to but I can still have an opinion on what I find unattractive.

I think that only young slim people look good baring flesh,

Agree!
However if I have to be close up-in a queue or on public transport, I’d rather not be in touching distance of sweaty skin, male or female.

karmalady Wed 13-Jul-22 17:37:21

males without tops. Ok on a building site or in their on homes. Outside in public view, comman as muck. Yuk
