How long do you stay in your PJs?

Just that really, I ask because it’s 10:30am and I’m still in mine, and this is quite normal for me.
Got up at 8:00am, had a leisurely breakfast, emptied the dishwasher, changed the sheets on the bed, did a bit of dead heading in the garden and now thinking about getting dressed so that I can walk the dog. Am I alone in this slovenly behaviour?

JaneJudge Fri 15-Jul-22 16:51:02

If I have to get to work for 7am I have to go to bed for 10pm. I have no social life grin

You did dead heading in the garden in your PJs !
I can’t believe it !
Yes, it is slovenly behaviour - in the Summer I’m up by 6am and fully showered , dressed and make up done by 6.45 at the latest. I assume you don’t work at all or do any sort of voluntary work, or you couldn’t possibly still not be properly dressed at 10/10.30 am.
When I was a child and visited my grandma in an industrial town in Yorkshire , she lived in a little terraced house on an old cobbled street with outside toilet across the road, and washing on clothes lines across the street,
and the women all shuffled off to the local shop at the far end of the street wearing their slippers and often still with rollers still in their hair ( my grandma didn’t do the latter ) . These women would have had hard lives - cooking breakfast for loads of kids, washing often done by hand with a mangle etc etc, so they had some excuse for appearing ‘ slovenly’ - what’s yours ???

What a rude and nasty comment!

I’m guessing all those who talk about lazing, slobbish, idle etc etc haven’t actually read the thread, otherwise they’d have seen an awful lot of busy, energetic and productive people in various forms of nightwear, dressing gowns and so on.

I can’t imagine being so busy I don’t have time to read other people’s views, but still feel competent to be rude about them.

All these smuggers up, showered and dressed around 6, must go to bed around 9p.m.
I dread to think what sort of social life they have.

... when you're retired, your social life can start early morning - unless you go clubbing.

And some people sleep less hours than others.

Maybe it's a tad smug to suggest they don't have a social life?

I sometimes go to bed at 9, other times not until around 2 in the morning. And I stay in my PJs as long as it suits. Others like to be up with the lark.

Best that one group does not condemn the other. We are a diverse bunch.

I potter around in the all together to do my housework,I might get up at 6.30 am,I might get up at 10.00am,I keep curtains closed,so no passing horses are frightened,I will cover up with rubber gloves and apron whilst sploshing about with the bleach, then I get showered.

Lilyflower Fri 15-Jul-22 17:18:22

I have breakfast in mine and get dressed straight afterwards. I wake very early and the DH takes 40 minutes to attend to his levee and, if I had to wait another 40 minutes for my coffee, I’d do him a mischief.

dte do you ever worry that should the emergency services have reason to gain entry to your house you'll be found in nothing but rubber gloves and an apron? grin

downtoearth Fri 15-Jul-22 17:25:54

Riverwalk I dont exert myself enough to need the emergency servicesgrin
Mind you would probably wonder wgat the feather duster was for

GrauntyHelen Fri 15-Jul-22 17:36:36

@Doodledog Likewise!

Faye you can make blackcurrant jam just like your mum did. All you need is a large pan, a wooden spoon (there are several on here for you to choose from), clean empty jars and equal weights of blackcurrants to sugar. Tip currants into the pan and simmer for 5minutes until soft. Chuck in the sugar and stir through. Bring to the boil. Keep it boiling for 15 minutes and keep stirring. Put it into warm jars, shove the lid on and leave it to cool and set. Done.

P.s. I also have no dog. Or cat, or animals of any kind.

Your house your rules as soon as I go to the shower about 8ish. Pjs go in the wash basket I like to get the washing done quickly.

albertina Fri 15-Jul-22 18:01:28

There's no right or wrong with this. You have to do what suits you.
I have struggled with this all my adult life, because my mother suffered from serious mental ill health caused by her experiences in a bombed city in World War two. She had two children under 3 to care for while my father was on North Atlantic convoys and never got over the fear of bombs and particularly the awful Doodlebugs.
As a youngster I saw my mother get up increasingly less as the time went on. As a result, I have always tried to be up, smartly dressed and made up early every morning.
It's only now that I feel I can relax a bit more and have breakfast in bed and slob around till I feel it's time for a shower etc
It's up to you. If you feel ok in your jammies till midday or beyond then that is fine. Duvet days aren't a bad thing at all. Wish I had had more in the past.

Many people on here are retired (it's a site for older people, so the clue's in the name).
I expect most have worked all their lives, may have brought up a family and cared for older relatives too.

So I think they're entitled to please themselves.

The only time I'd be up at 6 am , booted, spurred and with makeup on would be if I was going to catch a plane somewhere lovely.

Not forgetting that blackcurrant jam reaches setting point quite quickly ?

I have black currants from 2020 in the freezer, presumably they'd still be ok for jam or jelly making?

Word of warning:
It is best to be well-clothed before jam-making in case it spatters ?

I hope I can make OP feel a bit better after all these answers from the Virtuous brigade who are up with the lark .
I work a few days a week and am up , bathed , dressed and out by 8 am .
All the other days I like to lie around a bit , usually in bed.
I am up and ready by 11 am . Often, by that time I have done a lot of chores in my nightie( not pjs)
Laundry on line , floors washed especially...then I can be washed and clean and nightie easily washed.
Rest of day is busy , busy, busy so I am definitely not lazy.
Don't be listening to anyone else.
Do what you want !
Don't listen to anyone,OP

Doodledog Fri 15-Jul-22 19:20:28

This is not directed at anyone in particular, but why is it virtuous to be up early? Now that we have electricity we aren't going to 'waste the day' if we get up at noon and go to bed at midnight. I am a natural night owl, and have had to fight against my natural inclination all my life to get up in time - first for school, then work and children. Now that I answer to nobody, why would I carry on setting the alarm to get up and dressed early because of 'standards'?

It just makes no sense. Whose standards? Do those who abide by them know why they consider them important?

annifrance Fri 15-Jul-22 19:27:21

Same as you Bossyrossy. I am certainly not slovenly. I am a whirlwind in PJs, possibly an apron on top and get through huge amounts of the boring stuff before I get in to smart clothes, gardening clothes, dog walking clothes. Whichever suits ME. Always dressed before lunch, possible coffee.

Don't feel smug about it at all, and neither should the other side of the coin. Anyway I hate getting wet when I have just got out of bed. I take a long time to come to.

All a legacy from not having to do school run anymore.

Monica - well done you, but at 7am I am reading my book, the Guardian, emails, doing puzzles etc to keep brain active. So not time to get dressed.!

MissAdventure Fri 15-Jul-22 19:29:52

Even if someone is slovenly - so what??
I can think of a lot worse things to be.

slovenly s a very emotive word
It means untidy and dirty.

I'm sure my pjs and new dressing gown are far smarter than some of my clothes.
And they're not at all dirty.

MissAdventure Fri 15-Jul-22 20:18:09

Untidy, dirty.
It means nothing to me, in terms of a person's worth.
No point living in a pristine palace being unkind.

I know, but apparently anyone wearing pjs and dressing gown after 6.05 am is untidy and/or slovenly according to this thread.

I'm still fast asleep ?

MissAdventure Fri 15-Jul-22 20:39:20

The ones who matter won't mind, and the ones who mind don't matter. smile
I never see men judged or judging eachother on their pyjamas.

Seabreeze Fri 15-Jul-22 20:49:27

No pjs for me , but always put badadas in my bath. Up and dressed before 9 usually.

MissAdventure Fri 15-Jul-22 20:52:14

The average person passes gas 15 to 25 times a day, and this can happen while you're sleeping," says Youn in a short new video. "And a scientific study proved that every time you pass gas, you are spraying a tiny amount of faecal matter. This is true, even if it's not a real shart. And that same study showed that your tighty-whities will catch all of these particles. So for the sake of your bed partner, please sleep with your underwear on."
