Ooh yummy, what time are you dishing up grandmabatty? I’ll be there!
Hope you can replenish that gin stock soon soop, one of life’s essential little luxuries
Im just in from the garden, it’s been a bit showery this afternoon so the washing has been in and out. DD2 has brought a few things round as she’ll be working from here and staying over with the DGC for a week or so whilst their bathrooms are refitted. It’ll be a bit hectic so I’m quite looking forward to going away on Tuesday and leaving them all to it ?
I like a bus trip too dogs lovely to visit different places and enjoy the scenery on the way. No worries about parking either which is always a bonus

brook2704 Sun 21-Aug-22 16:55:45

Sorry to hear you’re not too good Yia , take it easy.. A sad day tomorrow, I’ll be thinking of you ?

Blossoming Sun 21-Aug-22 17:08:17

Good evening lovely Kitcheners. I have really crashed today, the neuro fatigue has poleaxed me! I have managed 15 minutes cycling and an hour’s Gaelic practice. I have a dental appointment tomorrow afternoon, just a check up and not expecting any problems. I think it’s time to have a lazy day or two. Your dinner sounds lovely GrandmaBatty as does your lunch LadyLL. Early night for me, after supper.

YiaYia hope the arthritis settles and tomorrow goes as well as it can for such a sad occasion flowers

Nannytopsy Sun 21-Aug-22 17:32:28

Hello everyone! It’s only afternoon, not bedtime which is when I usually catch up. DGC are here and we have watched a soppy film while I ironed and now tea is on the way. Steak pie, roasties and French beans. Also making sausage rolls and a plum and marzipan cake.
Someone in the village decided it was a good idea to let off fireworks last night. I foolishly posted on Nextdoor and the ruckus is still going on! ?
There is one Main Street with a line of houses either side, some thatched, then fields, stables barns etc outside them. Potentially a disaster!
I fear that so many people stream films etc but never see the news nor see the speed and destruction that has happened this summer.
Have a good evening everyone! Head back below the Suffolk parapet!

Jaxjacky Sun 21-Aug-22 18:59:37

I think you deserve that luscious lunch after your long stint yesterday llfl.
Definitely some rest for a while Blossoming you can ‘get back on the bike’ in more ways than one when you’re ready.
A difficult day tomorrow Yia I hope your arthritis calms down overnight.
Very selfish topsy, good for you.
We’ve been practicing indoor bowls this afternoon, well I have, MrJ is an old hand from some years ago before I knew him.
Hopefully, we’re getting some rain tomorrow, fingers crossed.
Must go, beef in oven, veg on the way.
Have a good evening all. x

soop Mon 22-Aug-22 16:31:49

I love you lot. You never fail to make me smile. THANK you.
I am about to mount the exercise bike that goes no place. Why? Good question. I feel almost duty-bound to follow Blossoming's wise and wondrous ways. I need to strengthen my leg muscles. Simples. wink

Blossoming Mon 22-Aug-22 17:00:39

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. It has been raining nonstop here this afternoon, much needed after the long dry spell. I have been to the dentist, no work needed, another visit in 6 months. My dentist is lovely, I used to be terrified after a bad experience but no more. Soop I will be cycling to Nowheresville in a little while to keep those muscles working smile. If I want to stop and rest I’ll do that too.
NannyTopsy some folk are incredible! How thoughtless, given current conditions.
Thinking of Yia on such a sad day.
Grandmabatty I hope the sciatica is improving with some rest.

soop Mon 22-Aug-22 17:26:33

I managed 25 mins on the bike. Tomorrow, I shall increase the time by a few minutes. Thank you for inspiring me, Blossoming.

Yia you are in our thoughts on this difficult day.

Grandmabatty Are you feeling a little better? Sciatica can blight one's life. I had a Tens machine. It helped me sleep more soundly. That was a very long time ago. Haven't had a relapse since.

Nannytopsy Some folk! hmm You did the right thing. No need to duck below the parapet.
The description of Sunday's food made my mouth water. Talk about scrummy. grin

brook The gin has been replenished But not with my favourite Blue Sapphire. Mustn't complain. Mr Soop will be going to Tesco later in the week. Gin (my favourite brand) heads the list. wink

Time to log off for another day. TOYA especially those of our Kitcheners who need some tender loving care. smile moon

Grandmabatty Mon 22-Aug-22 17:42:37

Thank you ladies, unfortunately it's still gi'en me gip! (Giving me pain) So I have been very lazy today and rather annoyed at myself. Hopefully tomorrow will see an improvement. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

muse Mon 22-Aug-22 17:55:03

Good afternoon Kitcheners.

BT didn't ring soop so I rang them. Fortunately someone from the fault team answered, read through all the notes and contact the data diagnostic team and 6:00pm the same day we had the land line back. A total of 10 days without it so we have some compensation coming our way. We've looked into doing away with the landline completely but it's not possible at the moment. I've just been doing some pilates stretches to easy my sciatica which suddenly started to twinge an hour ago, Why? I don't know. Hope your's has eased Grandmabatty.

Gorgeous dog photos in the kitchen BlueBalou and dustyangel. Mya is sharing my sofa at the moment.

Roll on tomorrow brook. Have an excellent break. Have I missed where you're going too?

What a frightening night Nannytopsy. Hope all's quiet now and no damage caused by the fireworks. Your cake has inspired me to make some rhubarb and frangipane tarts this afternoon.

Thinking of you today Yia. A very difficult day ?

Milo's fur looks so silky soft Ladyleftfieldlover. I'm a huge fan of caramel anything. Do you ever make salted caramel? I'd love the recipe if you do.

Need to get rolling the pastry for these tarts. Sorry to have missed a few of you. Lovely reading all your posts. I've just scrolled back and can't see SueD. I was wondering how the move went.

Take care Kitcheners.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 22-Aug-22 18:22:28

Hello everyone. I’ve had a reasonably busy day. First I popped into my hairdressers to see if I could have a quick fringe trim - I did. My next appointment isn’t for two weeks and I cancelled the last one because of the heat. Another trip to a charity shop with more goodies. I have one box left which I’ll take next week. Waitrose was third on my list. There were quite a few empty shelves, mainly chilled stuff and flowers. OH was having a mutter about the lounge curtains! I think they’re fine and go beautifully with the new decor. But, I sent for eight fabric samples anyway! I think we’re having a Waitrose Thai ready meal tonight.

Jaxjacky Mon 22-Aug-22 19:31:17

Hi all.
I hope today wasn’t too painful for you both Yia ?
As soop would say Grandmabatty an absolute buggeration, a day of rest should be a choice, not enforced.
I’ve not done much either, bit of housework, phone calls and glorious rain, a steady heavy drizzle. It’s also a touch chilly, I’ve got jeans on, first time for weeks, not loving that, but the rain..garden is slurping.
Enjoy your evening all x

SueDonim Mon 22-Aug-22 19:57:02

Thanks for the name check, Muse. We’re here in our new abode! It’s been a lonnnnng few days and we’ve still a lot to do but we’re over the worst of it. The internet was only connected today, and even then I had to kidnap an engineer to get it done. grin We followed the instructions as per the info that came with the BT hub but all we got was the purple light of doom.

Then this morning, I spotted an Openreach chap laying the fibres to other new houses so I went and asked him if he could help us, assuming that was permitted by his employers. He said he’d do his best and within five minutes we had internet! I offered him coffee and biscuits but he declined. My DD’s are horrified at my audacity but I think that nowadays, if you don’t ask, you don’t get! grin

Curry’s brought a tumble drier (should drier be spelt with a Y or an I? I never know blush) this morning and John Lewis arrived with the washing machine this evening, so we’re getting there.

There are a millionty-and-one boxes still to be opened and also the same again waiting in the garage for disposal, which is a bit of a problem, but we’ll get through it eventually. I am going to have to declutter again, as we still have far too much stuff. I probably don’t need twenty four dinner plates, for instance, although I am quite sentimentally attached to each set. Hard decisions on which to pass on to someone else! The cat seems to have settled in ok. He’s been walking into things (he’s blind) but he’s managing ok and eating as usual!

My 4yo granddaughter was here to have a look within 45 minutesof the removal men departing. ? She’s so excited to have us nearby. I think my dd is, too, as she’s ‘booked’ Dh to go to the dump with her one day this week and to take charge of the delivery of her new kitchen on Friday, while I’ve been engaged to look after the baby one day this week. No peace for the wicked!

I hope everyone in the Kitchen is ok - I know I’ve missed a lot of events but will catch up one day, I’m sure. TOYA! Xxx

Jaxjacky Mon 22-Aug-22 20:06:04

A big welcome to your new home SueD, it’s been a bit of a haul, but you’ve done it. I hope you both have many happy years there ? ?

Blossoming Mon 22-Aug-22 20:21:39

Just popping my head round the door to say well done on the Internet connection SueDonim, I hope you will be very happy in your new home.

Grandmabatty Mon 22-Aug-22 20:21:49

Happy new house, Suedonim. And many years of happiness ahead. Muse bad luck on the sciatica. JaxJacky it's quite chilly here too. I've decided to rest again and hope the bloomin sciatica clears soon. I'm currently watching Joan Hickson as Miss Marple whilst lying on the couch. Toya.

Dogsmakemesmile Mon 22-Aug-22 20:41:36

Put your feet up SueD. Sounds exhausting and exhilerating. How exciting to have a new home.
Yia I hope today was not too difficult and that you have support. You will certainly find it here.
Grandmabatty I hope the wretched sciatica clears up quickly. Have not experienced it but believe it to be horrible.
Busy day with DGD. Art stuff, some little walks, reading and half an hour of children's tv. And biscuits. No idea what we will do tomorrow.
Gloomy, grey day with lots of drizzle but fine by me!
TOYA

Nannytopsy Mon 22-Aug-22 21:21:34

Evening everyone! We took DGC to the SeaLife centre today, had fish and chips and 10 minutes on the beach. We drove home thinking we must have the car keys as the engine was running! It took quite a while plus DGD’s tiny fingers to find them and dig them out from down the side of the drivers seat. It was lucky she was with us because they had the house keys on them! These modern inventions are new to us!

brook2704 Mon 22-Aug-22 22:19:09

So pleased to hear your making progress with your new home SueD and lovely that your so near your DD and DGD now - although I’m sure you’ll be kept busy!
A late visit to the kitchen tonight as DD2 et al have been making full use of our facilities, they’re not the tidiest or quietest of families so it’s been a bit frantic. They also brought their new kitten with them who’s been getting up to all sorts of mischief ?‍♀️ Anyhow it’s all quiet now and I’ve retreated to the sanctuary of my bedroom.
We’re off again tomorrow on our walking adventure muse, down your way as we’ve been walking the South West Coast Path on and off over the last couple of years. This trip is the last stretch, we’re walking from Salcombe in Devon to South Haven Point in Dorset. If all goes to plan we’ll finish in a couple of weeks and then start planning another adventure….
Hope the sciatica is better soon grandmabatty
Dogs and nannytopsy your days out with the DGC sound lovely - precious memories made
yia ?

Naughtyneine Tue 23-Aug-22 08:31:14

I wrote a screed yesterday but have not a clue where it's gone to.
Yia my thoughts were with you yesterday and my prayers that your BIL may now rest in peace. ?
I'm loving seeing the soft furnishings LLF... More pictures please.
SueD... I'm glad you are in your new home... Lots of new memories to make now.
For the achy people...I hope you are in less discomfort today.
I had an appointment at our new Doctors yesterday... It was a bit daunting after being with the same practice for all but 4 years of my life previously but the pelvic girdle pain wasn't going away...It feels like I've had my bottom spanked.. (DOH just grinned when I asked him if he had been having a 50 shades moment in his sleep). Any way the upshot is an urgent x ray to see if the hip has slipped ( I'm sure it hasn't) physio and blood tests..I think the latter is just because I'm new to the practice. We are off to to the Wirral this weekend to see my cousins. One of them is being sent home this week with palliative care... The brain tumour has returned and it's inoperable...so very sad... He is in his early 60s only. Life is so precious...and short.
I have the greatest admiration for you Soop...to recognise , accept and organise. In my head I am still that 17 year old who could do anything and everything...with no physical restrictions and true to form I'm doing a Scarlet O Hara about the future....and thinking about it another day. !!!!!!

PS. I'm not sure the cake I left yesterday actually got to the kitchen...so I'm popping in another of Nadia's carrot bundt cake.

Charleygirl5 Tue 23-Aug-22 10:47:51

Showers were promised yesterday but none arrived. It must have rained during the night because a plastic garden chair had a puddle on it.

After the end of September, I do not want to see another tradesman in this house- the door will be firmly locked. I am still without electricity in my kitchen- it has been a month. I have decided to take charge instead of the electrician because the promised plasterer is still in whichever country he decided to take a holiday, having been due back last Saturday.

Fortunately I have solar panels and decent sunshine or you would all have your windows firmly closed. Not PV unfortunately. I am dreaming of a hot meal, not microwaved. Sirloin steak and trimmings are top of the menu.

I have a Heath Robinson unsafe method for washing my clothes- the electrician thought I could do without that machine for a month.

Thank you for listening, I will take my witterings elsewhere.

Grandmabatty Tue 23-Aug-22 13:17:18

Batten down the hatches, dd and the boys are coming. Dgs1 insisted he come to grandma's house. I will attempt to forget the sciatica and the pain in the bum. See you on the other side!

brook2704 Tue 23-Aug-22 14:09:03

Hoping things improve soon charleygirl and the plasterer gets back from holiday !, you must have so much patience - I don’t think I could manage without electric in the kitchen for long
Sad news about your cousin naughtyneine life indeed is precious
We’re part way through our journey down to Devon, the flight was on time so we’ll be getting the train for the rest of the journey soon
Sounds like you’re going to have a fun afternoon grandmabatty enjoy every minute and hope your sciatica behaves itself

Blossoming Tue 23-Aug-22 14:51:37

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. My visit to the dentist went well yesterday, but last night was not so good! I had a nasty episode thanks to my hiatal hernia and didn’t dare lie flat in case I vomited and choked. Then my ribs, shoulder and neck joined in, nerve pain is so horrible. I didn’t get much sleep. When I went to take the first of the morning meds I realised I’d neglected to take my nightly amitriptyline, hence the flaring of the nerve pain. My own silly fault and I’m paying for it now! I can’t take the missing dose so will have to wait until tonight. Good job we have nothing planned for today. I’m doing my cycling in 15 minute blocks now, stopping to walk around the room and drink a glass of water. Later I shall get back into my pillow nest, do some Gaelic practice and maybe have a nap, I’m not good at napping though.

I hope your smacked bottom feels better soon Neine and I hope you survive the visit of the tiny terror GrandmaBatty.

Charleygirl that would drive me mad! I hate disruption.

Have a lovely walk Brook hope you can share some photos.

soop Tue 23-Aug-22 14:57:48

SueD Us lot wish you every happiness in your new home. flowers and much love. xxx

We had a lovely chatty time with our neighbour at lunch time. Late lunch and now playing some form of catch up.

It is a glorious day. I aim to ride my exercise bike for at least 30 minutes today. I shall listen to my favourite Neil Diamond cd as I do so.

Pic of our granddaughter, the mummy of two lovely children.
