We had a good rainfall here this morning so the grass should appear greener soon. The sun popped out for 20 minutes and vanished.

My plasterer is here and informed me he has to return tomorrow. Fine but I am out for my monthly coffee with 3 GNs so it will have to be early afternoon.

If he had spent less time buying more supplies and sitting in his van having a smoke I am sure it could have been finished today but beggars cannot be choosers. He has done work here before and the result was outstanding. I have to be tolerant.

Good afternoon, Soop and lovely Kitchen people! ?

Thank you, Nannytopsy, it was a good day. Enjoy your special times with baby Fergus, ? that name! I hope your steroid injections ? are helping.

I had my BP nurse appointment this morning and she was pleased with me, I don't need to go back for 6 months, YIPPEE!!

We've been getting organised for our week away, we leave on Saturday, beginning to get excited now.

Well done on your super cycling, Blossoming and Soop, you are both so disciplined.

Brook, your location sounds beautifully picturesque. I hope you get a gentle breeze for the next part of your walk.

TOYA, especially those with pain, worries or sorrow, take care. ?

Hello everyone! I had a lovely book club meeting in our local cafe. Sandwiches and coffee too. When I got back home the electrician was just finishing. He spent an hour and a half, cost £85 and told us he didn’t really know what the problem was! He was very sweet though and I felt a bit sorry for him. OH (wearing his Engineering Science degree from Oxford hat) is now compiling some sort of spread sheet so he can try and work out why the fuse box keeps tripping. I have just booked a table for next week. I am meeting up with my friend who is difficult in restaurants. I have checked all the reviews…

Grandmabatty Thu 25-Aug-22 17:13:02

Good afternoon kitcheners. It's been a lovely day in Batty Towers. I had a nice catch up with old colleagues and friends last night but the upshot was, I didn't sleep well. Today I was looking after dgs2 who was joy personified. A happy, smiley baby who has mastered clapping hands and is very proud of it. He ate well and had two excellent naps, morning and afternoon,so grandma could recover. Dd brought dgs1 in from nursery and we built a forest. They are going on holiday on Sunday and he is beyond excited about going on a plane. I hope that continues. Brook your walk sounds idyllic. Grannmarie have a lovely trip and good news about your blood pressure. I am in awe of the exercising duo, Soop and Blossoming. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

soop Thu 25-Aug-22 17:18:02

Charleyg You have made me chuckle. grin

Grannmarie And a resounding YIPPEE from me.

Llfl I think that you are brave. Your friend really should learn to be diplomatic. Hey ho!

45 mins on the bike, Blossoming. I did not clean the kitchen cupboards. hmm

Night night dear Kitcheners. I shall be with you again tomorrow. smile moon

soop Thu 25-Aug-22 17:20:41

Hello, Grandmabatty I am in awe of your tireless grandmothering. Your memory bank will never run dry. I bet that you are loved to bits. flowers

Grannmarie Thu 25-Aug-22 17:57:52

Thank you, Grandmabatty. Sounds like a lovely day with your wee grandsons, clever wee man clapping his hands!? I'm sure they just love coming to Grandma's house. Have a well deserved rest next week when they are on their holidays, hope your wee DGS1 enjoys the plane. ✈

45 minutes, Soop, I'm seriously impressed! The kitchen cupboards will be there tomorrow, and the day after!

Charleygirl and LLFL, your tradesmen have at least turned up, step one. Step two, completing the job, is another matter. ?

I've been lazy this afternoon, reading GN and dozing, time to bring in the washing and do some ironing.....

hulahoop Thu 25-Aug-22 18:12:00

Blossoming Thu 25-Aug-22 18:36:03

Good afternoon lovely Kitcheners. My pillow nest was indeed cosy last night, so much so that I didn’t want to leave it this morning grin. I did manage to drag my lazy bones out of bed and got through quite a lot today. One lot of laundry washed and hung up to dry, it’s been a lovely sunny day here and not too hot. One lot of detritus cleared from the bedroom floor and placed in the cupboards where it belongs. Two lots of Gaelic practice. Several hours researching family history on Scotlands people and other places, it’s so addictive. 45 minutes cycling which I do enjoy, I feel better for making the effort and I can’t let soop down.
It’s lovely to read all about your get togethers and family time. I must go now as Mr. B is making a lovely carbonara for tea and I can hear ‘serving up’ noises coming from the kitchen.

brook2704 Thu 25-Aug-22 21:04:52

Just a very quick visit from me tonight as I’m well and truly done in. Another gorgeous walk from Beesands to Dartmouth, there’s a Regatta on here just now and the town is very lively!
The weather has been hot and sunny all day - not ideal for walking when there’s no shade but we managed it with lots of water stops
So exciting for your DD and family grandmabatty hoping they have a lovely holiday
Well done to our cycling duo soop and blossoming ?? what a team!

Yiayia4 Thu 25-Aug-22 21:07:18

Good evening Kitcheners.Heavy rain and storms and now feeling cooler, hopefully a better nights sleep.
Have a wonderful holiday Grandmarie and well done on your BP readings.
Your walk sounds brilliant Brook enjoy.
Keep on cycling Soop and Blossoming puts me to shame.
Sleep well all.?

Charleygirl5 Thu 25-Aug-22 21:14:11

Grannmarie tilers 1 and 2 are on holiday, tilers 3 and 4 could not do any work until mid October, and number 5 did not bother to turn up this evening to give me a quote. I know he lives locally but I am unsure where.

It is way beyond my area of expertise so I will not be tackling it. In fairness, I do not think that I am good at anything. In today's market, I would probably be unemployable.

Back to the drawing board.

Grannmarie Thu 25-Aug-22 21:59:40

Thank you, YiaYia. Hope you sleep well tonight. ?

Charleygirl, I am sure that your talents are many and varied! They just don't include tiling, why should they? ?

I've just about finished packing for Saturday, going to sit down with a wee glass of SB and watch the very last episode of A Place to Call Home, Australian drama set in the 1950s. I found it recommended on GN a few months ago, it's been my late night treat !
TOYA, NNGB.

cornergran Thu 25-Aug-22 22:23:52

Snap charleygirl. My one attempt at tiling was greeted with derision, removed and re-tiled. An excellent reason (excuse?) never to take on that task again. Hope a tiling magician appears very soon, you need your kitchen back.

I’m seriously questioning my enthusiastic signing up for a volunteer post that requires hours of training via Zoom. My head is spinning and over-full. If it wasn’t for the time and effort two wonderful friends put in responding to the very detailed reference requests the towel would have been hurled into the ring this evening. Oh what have I done?

My antidote will be a day pottering in the garden tomorrow, we had enough rain yesterday so my hope is for a dry day to restore my sanity and hopefully positive thinking about this flipping training. Also the organisation, it is seeming to me that what it says on the tin is quite different to the contents.

Beautiful views brook. Can you cycling people suggest how I can persuade (nag!) Mr C to use our pedal contraption. It’s been recommended for his heart condition. It seems there was selective deafness at that point in the consultation.

Good night everyone. Safe travels to all on the move, happy holidays to all getting away. A hug for all with sadness in their lives. TOYA.

Blossoming Fri 26-Aug-22 09:43:08

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners, an early visit from me as Mr. B told me last night he is taking me out today for a pub lunch. I’m quite excited, I must try and get the cycling done before we go as I probably won’t manage it afterwards grin. Tomorrow afternoon we are at a wedding celebration, my social life is looking up.

I will pop back this evening to catch up smile

Blossoming Fri 26-Aug-22 09:44:11

Good morning, not afternoon! All this giddiness is making me careless…

MawtheMerrier Fri 26-Aug-22 10:44:16

Brook I did a double take when I saw your lovely pictures! These were on Gotland 5 years ago -do you see what I mean?

soop Fri 26-Aug-22 12:52:34

Good early afternoon to our dear Kitcheners. It's a grey day and last night's rain has refreshed the garden.

Blossoming Enjoy your pub lunch. A treat that we would greatly enjoy.

Grannmarie I'm excited for you. So there. grin

Maw Yes! That view is very like Brook's lovely views as she walked from Beesands to Dartmouth. I know Dartmouth well. In another life, I lived there and in Kingswear just the other side of the Dart.

Our youngest grandson will be graduating today. He is a History "buff"...and super interesting with it.

Nannytopsy Fri 26-Aug-22 16:11:51

Like the photos Maw. Congratulations to your grandson soop. Our stepGS got his GCSE results yesterday and is now off to sixth form college. I hope a new start will give him enjoyment and a sense of being a grown up.
I am ironing again - there is just so much backed up. The hip steroids seem to have worked really well - it makes me realise that they were painful all the time, not just after walking a short distance.
Well, back to the ironing! Enjoy your evenings ??
It’s Friday after all!

Yiayia4 Fri 26-Aug-22 16:31:23

Afternoon everyone.Nice photos today.

It’s Mr Yia’s birthday a quiet day but will be going to our local Indian restaurant with the family later.
.Congrats to your grandson Soop you must be a proud grandma.
Enjoy your pub lunch Blossoming

Have a pleasant evening Kitcheners.

Blossoming Fri 26-Aug-22 16:34:15

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. Mr. B and I had a lovely and reasonably priced pub lunch, Scampi for me and hunter’s chicken for him. Decent well cooked and presented- what more can you ask? Now ready a nap grin.
Have a lovely holiday Grannmarie hope it does you both the world of good.
That’s great news about the hip pain nannytopsy.
That training sounds OTT Cornergran and a lot to expect from an unpaid volunteer.
Have a good evening all x

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 26-Aug-22 16:41:16

Hello everyone. Well, I finished the Barmbrack and I’m now waiting for it to cool so I can try a slice with a lump of cold butter on top! OH has gone off to the charity shops with the final box of younger son’s books. It’s been in the back of his car for weeks! I would have taken it but the box is too heavy. Annoyingly I had a migraine this morning straight after breakfast. The pre-autumn sunshine is very bright. I usually just have the aura but I still took a sumatriptan. Anyway, I’ve sorted out son’s bedroom for his visit tomorrow and now I’m sitting on the sofa with a chocolate or two (who was it who mentioned Kennedy’s?), being kept company by Milo the cat and catching up with the rather grim news.

soop Fri 26-Aug-22 17:10:03

Llfl Temptress! wink

Blossoming I'm pleased to hear that your pub lunch was tasty. It is good to have the occasional treat. I would most likely have chosen fish, chips and mushy peas. Mr S would have chosen pie.
I rode the bike for thirty mins this morning. I am now about to do the outstanding 15 mins.

Happy birthday Mr Yia. Are you, like me, a Leo? Mr Soop would jump at the chance of dining in an Indian restaurant. His favourite cuisine beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Nannytopsy I should be ironing. It will have to wait until I'm in the mood. Pleased to hear that the steroid injections have helped to ease your pain.

I shall join you all again tomorrow. Tonight, is glass of vino night. I shall raise a glass of cheer to you all. smile moon

Jaxjacky Fri 26-Aug-22 17:37:33

Hi all, happy holidays Grannmarie, have a lovely time.
And a happy birthday to MrYia I very nearly dialled our Indian takeaway a short while ago, I’ve been busy today, but resisted.
I, well we, have family coming tomorrow for lunch, adults only, we’ll be 8 and after I’d sorted out lifts for people from yesterdays calls I got on.
Cooked beetroot, made courgette fritters (1 person is veggie), simmered a gammon, now finishing in the oven with a baked cheesecake, I will never grate a courgette again!
I think it’s soon time to cheat a bit. It’s been hot in the kitchen and I keep thinking about the energy ££’s I’m walking through. Bread and cheese for Sunday!
MrJ has gone to bowls, I just want to get done, so I’ll raise a glass to you all in a while ?x

Jaxjacky Fri 26-Aug-22 17:41:30

Wacking though!!
