Mmmm, cakes! After what I ate yesterday I really shouldn’t, but it’s rude to refuse grin
Soop I’m so happy to have seen so many of my loved ones for the first time in 2 years. We have all been in touch, but it isn’t quite the same. There was much hugging, much laughter, much eating and drinking and chatting, so much chatting my voice had shrunk to a squeak by the time we got home. I also got to see baby William for the first time, 5 months old and delightfully smiley. Also toddler Jack, who I last saw as a babe in arms, who ran up to greet me and said “Let’s party!” What better welcome could you want? My family truly is my treasure.
We were late home and there was no time or energy for cycling, I slept like a log.

Today we have had a lie in and a late brunch of bacon rolls. I have done a couple of hours of Gaelic studies and 45 minutes of cycling. I discovered a new word today, coddiwomple , which means to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination. I think that fits the bill for our cycle rides!

soop Sun 28-Aug-22 17:36:17

Thank you, mrshat. I have hundreds of glorious sunset photos. Kintyre is renowned for them.

Have ridden the bike to no place, and now need to chill and sup tea.

Until tomorrow, TOYA smile moon

Blossoming grin grin grin Happy coddiwompling.

Grandmabatty Sun 28-Aug-22 18:40:05

Good evening Kitcheners. I am a-laying on the couch, stappit fu of food. We were out for lunch. Unfortunately mum decided not to come, despite it being her idea. I ironed this morning so I feel virtuous. No tea is necessary but I'll have a bit of toast later. Have a good evening Kitcheners

Jaxjacky Sun 28-Aug-22 19:19:58

Hi kitchen people. That sounds like bliss Grannmarie, how heavenly.
A beer in Beer, I must remember that and we’ll copy you in November, MrJ says he’s happy to do that ?.
I can feel your contentment Blossoming ‘bosom of the family’ comes to mind ?
We’ve had a restful day, paid a visit to see my son and his family who gave us gifts from their holiday, a really pretty handmade pot for me, it will live on the window sill with herbs.
Leftovers for dinner, great, a no cooking day!
Have a gentle evening all x

brook2704 Sun 28-Aug-22 19:27:21

Have a really lovely holiday grannmarie your bungalow and the view look gorgeous. A possible option for the future if you’re thinking of downsizing
So pleased you had such a lovely day yesterday blossoming and catching up with precious family time - memories made to last forever. I think the word coddiwomple is brilliant and sums up our walking holiday perfectly as well as your cycle rides! I’ll have to remember it ..
Hope your DD and DGSs enjoy their family holiday grandmabatty, I’m sure you’ll hear lots about it later. You’ll miss them though I expect. Shame you mum didn’t join you for lunch though
Another lovely sunny day here, I’ve only worn a T-shirt and walking trousers since Tuesday - no need for a jumper or coat, so unlike Inverness! Tonight we’re in Charmouth, we stopped earlier at Lyme Regis, a lovely seaside town but very busy with holidaymakers all enjoying the sunny weather and BH weekend

Pittcity Sun 28-Aug-22 20:16:00

Kitchener's, can I just sit quietly in the corner with a glass of something strong and a big bit of cake? I'm escaping from some boisterous threads and need a bit of calm.

Pittcity Sun 28-Aug-22 20:17:23

Apologies for the abhorrent apostrophe, bloomin' autocorrect!

muse Sun 28-Aug-22 20:23:00

Good Evening Kitcheners.
The weather's certainly been with you brook. I went to Beer many moons ago - before I moved south. Does it have steep narrow road down to beach/sea? Beautiful little village.

The cake sounds the same Llfl. I soaked the fruit in some spicy rum last time ?

Loving all your muchness Blossoming. I hope you partied till the sun went down ? ?

My DS is enjoying his Cornish holiday. St Ives was visited today to find it was packed. He was warned! I've texted him a good selection of other beaches to visit. I have my hopes up for a visit from him and DGD2 on Wednesday. Lunch has been offered but he says it will be a quick visit.

With our now ample water supply, I risked putting more beetroot in today and moving a few plants. The promise of rain is not on the cards yet but MrMuse has today, topped up our 5000 ltr tank, despite it having a slight leak.

brook2704 Sun 28-Aug-22 20:51:46

You’re right muse Beer is a beautiful little village with a steep narrow and road down to the beach, there was a gorgeous beer garden overlooking the beach - just perfect. They do really good ice creams too! I hope you get a visit from your DS and DGD this week fingers crossed ?
You’re very welcome pittcity theres always a quiet corner in the kitchen to sit and chill out ?

Grannmarie Sun 28-Aug-22 20:57:26

Thank you, Soop and all, for your good wishes for our wee holiday.

Another lovely day, we went to a local craft fair/ car boot sale for a 'wee nosey' and came back with a set of wooden planters for the patio....they'll have to squeeze into the car along with the mobility scooter!
Enjoyed the verandah later, puzzles and listening to Neil Young on Alexa, then
roast chicken dinner, apple pie and cream...
I predict a diet, but not yet?

Jaxjacky and LadyLfL, what super cakes, you are both very talented ! My apple pie came from Asda...

Muse, you are a great support to your DS, anxiety seems to be the curse of covid, so much of it affecting our young people. Have a lovely visit on Wednesday.

Blossoming, what a joyful family reunion, I filled up reading about you meeting up with the wee boys.

Grandmabatty, I know you'll miss your wee DGSs this week, but relax and recharge your batteries for their no doubt energetic return!

Pittcity, hello! ?

Brook, I'm in awe of your energy, enjoy your wonderful walks.

TOYA, NNGB.

Blossoming Sun 28-Aug-22 21:01:28

Thank you everyone for your kind comments, I think I’m still on cloud 9 grin Trying to catch up, good to hear you have a decent water supply muse and loving hearing about your walk Brook. GrandmaBatty you sound happy, hope the sciatica has eased.

Do come and find a nice comfy chair Pittcity, we’re good at comfort and snuggling in here!

Jaxjacky Sun 28-Aug-22 21:02:04

Pittcity tequila slammers and key lime pie for you!

cornergran Sun 28-Aug-22 21:14:16

Budge up pittcity. I’ve got myself into a right old pickle and need to hide for a bit. I’ve come bearing two slices of chocolate cake with far too much icing , the rest is in a tin on the side ready for tomorrow

Blossoming Sun 28-Aug-22 22:38:43

You’re safe with us Cornergran. I’m sure someone will pour you a drink grin

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 28-Aug-22 22:39:05

Hello everyone. I am absolutely stuffed. We had leg of lamb with all the trimmings for dinner. Yummy. In honour of younger son’s visit, I had made a giant Pavlova to use up some of the multitude of egg whites in the freezer. Covered with lashings of whipped cream and strawberries and served with a jug of raspberry coulis. There’s a tiny bit left in the fridge.

Urmstongran Sun 28-Aug-22 22:43:34

‘Evening All’.

I’ve been AWOL during August pretty much. The WiFi has been sporadic out here in Malaga. It’s fine first thing in a morning. I’m not tech savvy enough to know if that makes a difference.

Anyhoo - I’ve missed you all. Too many posts to catch up on, so just to say ‘hola mes amigas’ and I hope to be posting more frequently now.

Our holiday this month has been pretty wonderful. The scorching heat of August is now giving way to a more autumnal temperature. We are gently sliding into September, my favourite month out here.

I trust all is well with my kitchener buddies.
Best wishes from Spanish Spain ??

Nannytopsy Sun 28-Aug-22 23:26:00

Lots of happy holiday posts today and those two hiding on the sofa! Keep your heads down ladies!
If he has slept well, DGS is coming tomorrow. If not, DD will not risk the drive and we will go there. Excited? Moi? ?

soop Mon 29-Aug-22 15:16:36

Our great grandson celebrated his 2nd birthday yesterday. Awww!

About to tackle the ironing. Will return thereafter. smile

soop Mon 29-Aug-22 15:19:50

I meant to add - Pittcity and corner, please, do enjoy our kitchen. You are one of us lot.

Pittcity Mon 29-Aug-22 15:23:38

Thank you Soop. I've come out of hiding now as I had to go and fetch a cardi. It's feeling autumnal in Essex today.

Blossoming Mon 29-Aug-22 15:45:25

What a beautiful wee boy Soop. I have just finished my coddiwomple and my Gaelic practice so I am ready for a cup of tea and a biscuit while I relax. I have chocolate chip almond biscuits, I’ll leave them on the side for anyone to partake. There’s always a welcome in here Pittcity

soop Mon 29-Aug-22 17:05:48

Blossoming The ironing took longer than I imagined it would. After lunch, I also beavered outside, sweeping fallen leaves, wiping down the paintwork, generally tidying up the wee back garden. I confess that I am jiggered. I shall therefore forego the coddiwomple for today.

Urms It is good to hear from you. Here in Kintyre, the weather is perfect. It has been a day for pootling outside and doing stuff in the garden.

Grannmarie I am with you in spirit. I can sense your contentment.

Llfl Boy, oh boy! Whenever I read your posts, I feel my taste buds go into over drive.

Grandmabatty Hot, buttered toast! It never fails to cheer. Relax. smile

Thank you, dear Kitcheners, for all the interesting updates. I have little to add, other than to wish you all a pleasant evening. smile moon

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 29-Aug-22 17:10:14

OH and I popped over to our nearest small stately home. It’s just 10 minutes away. A look around the gardens and a peak in the house. Younger son is, as we speak, preparing his wondrous fish pie for dinner. I think pudding might be some of my homemade ice cream - caramel, strawberry or chocolate.

Yiayia4 Mon 29-Aug-22 17:26:39

Beautiful boy Soop.
Having a quiet day, yesterday our small close of 4 houses got together and had a lovely BBQ.Great food and plenty of Prosecco, what else do you need?
Have a pleasant evening everyone.
