Just watching the news on TV and a hideous beard appeared. What is it about this latest trend?

I seriously can'too stand looking at them and I ALWAYS end up sitting on the opposite table in a restaurant to one, ughh i see soup dripped upon this ugly mound of hair, I see spaghetti caught up on the bristles as its been sucked up, ohhh my life there is absolutely ziltch attractive about them.

Get this, last christmas I even saw a chap decorating his beard with miniature baubles.... no need for words as my expression said it all hahaha.

Yes, each to their own, Im all for each to their own BUT beards are excluded hahahahaha.

^I always think men with beards are trying to hide some ugly feature, or have an insecure personality.^

So sad. That's the sort of thing women say about other women who wear more make-up than they do.

I know someone who has a birth mark on his face and grew a beard to cover it. I think it's sad that he felt he had to, because stupid people thought the mark was ugly.

I rather like a decent, clean and well kept beard. OH grew one once but he didn’t nurture it properly so it was full of holes. He shaved it off after a year. Elder son has never grown one as he has fine fair, although he managed a goatee once. Younger son can grow a beard at the drop of a hat. He first grew one when he was 20. He was starting a Masters and wanted to look older.

Good idea....
I remember my friend giving me something like that at Christmas, designed as Santa Claus of course.

I have a photo somewhere...

I love beards - as long as they’re short, neatly trimmed and not a Captain Birdseye type beard. I think a dark haired man with a neat beard is very attractive, sexy and masculine. Like the late Imran in Coronation Street. Gorgeous! I quite like goatee beards on older, grey haired men - like David Essex.

Blossoming That's so clever. Love it.

I think I'm a bit biased about beards at the moment. Just re-watched Young Montalbano and I can't imagine Michele Riondino with spaghetti in his beard. I think I may even forgive him if he has.

My husband has always had a beard, I love him with a beard, without it he has no chin and a big nose! He’s always threatening to shave it off but I say Nooooooo!!!

I hate beards ! Even my 37 year old elder son has one ! Yuk !

My lovely husband had a beard from his early 20's I never knew him without one and it was a nice salt and pepper colour when I met him. He lost it during chemo and was so upset as it was his 'armour' he was quite a shy man. It had started to grow back when he was in the hospice and I had to ask the nursing staff not to shave it. He died with his 5 'o clock shadow.

I was once engaged to a lovely chap with a beard. I did enjoy kissing him! Wonder where he is now....

CathSoc62 Sat 20-Aug-22 11:21:24

Actually I quite like beards! Twice in his life my husband grew one and kept it for months on end ( can’t remember how you snog though now ! ?). As long as they’re kept neat shortish and clean, what’s the problem ? These days though, think I prefer men with ‘ designer stubble’.!

I love a well kept beard .They can look very distinguished . Some men, especially younger men can look really handsome.

Mokeswife Sat 20-Aug-22 11:28:54

I love a beard on a man - sooo attractive!

Bijou Sat 20-Aug-22 11:30:21

My son grew a beard because he looked so much younger than his wife and his eight year old sons friend came one day and asked if Mike could come out to play. He has always kept it he is now 73, and it is grey and well trimmed.

Apparently there are posters of different styles of beards in hipster barber shops. Here in Brighton they are very fashionable and fun to observe.... but in the past I always found them very off putting when it came to getting up close!

Amalegra Sat 20-Aug-22 11:35:18

I like beards although admittedly some are better than others! My father had a beard, so too my father in law and my ex husband. My son and son in law both have beards. All were/are well kept, clean and neatly trimmed-and suit them! Can’t see the fuss about them tbh, a bit odd and somewhat prissy and judgemental! There are so many different looking people today, from the innocuous beard to hairstyles/colour, tattoos and piercings. Live and let live and look at the PERSON is what I have always said!

BarbieB Sat 20-Aug-22 11:37:42

My husband has always had a well trimmed and kept goatee beard. I am so used to it l don’t notice it but l do recall when our three daughters were little, their dad had shaved off his beard and the youngest two had no idea who he was! Since when the beard has remained.

I think that beards are very ageing and can make young men look old before their time.I prefer a clean shaven face as, like others, I feel those with a beard appear to have something to hide.

Barmeyoldbat Sat 20-Aug-22 11:45:41

Mr Barmey has a neat short one and I have never ever seen food caught up in it. I love them if they are looked after. I do hate tattoos though.

Alioop Sat 20-Aug-22 11:46:26

Some men really suit them, Jamie Dornan looks better with one than when he's clean shaven. I'm not a fan of them myself, I'd hate to think what some find in those really long, thick ones.
My ex didn't shave at the weekend because he was too lazy, he just looked unkempt by Monday morning as the hairs were sprouting out in patches. Sorry, clean shaven for me with lovely aftershave slapped on.

Nanny123 Sat 20-Aug-22 11:47:09

My husband has a beard. Not something he really wanted but after having a serious car accident at the age of 17 he was left with many scare on his face. He has a beard to cover those scares.
