As an antidote to some unpleasantness I think we should have a positive thread.
I would like to start by saying a huge THANK YOU to a lovely gentleman from Brackley.
I may not post but I read your thread and love it’s gentle simplicity and charm.
Thank you.

TillyTrotter

All of the above get a vote from me,
and the proud gran of one little girl who welcomed me to her daily GN Maths Class thread over 2 years ago.
The class had a lot of fun!

Also the grans who start all the GN games threads as they are particularly friendly and welcoming to newcomers too.

We were all very norty grin
But it was a good workout for the brain

Thank you, teecher.

I enjoy MissAdventures take on life. Thank you MissA. Also, on a serious note, we have some experts whose posts have helped me learn about so much - from gardening to fiscal policy, which I have loved, so a shout out to those people, too.

LauraNorderr Mon 22-Aug-22 13:15:58

Another shout out here for MissAdventure, a perceptive poster with a wacky sense of humour.

I like to read the GM thread started by Mick’s gentle post every day. I find it interesting to see how others plan to spend their day. Some are so busy, some not so - a cross section of life really.
I had a lot of support from various GNs, especially one living in FrenchFrance when my DH died last year. I avoid anything contentious but if someone is looking for info and I have that knowledge, I will post. Sometimes a thread like Miss A’s wandering watering can bring a bit of unexpected humour.
It’s a shame how the longest thread today keeps getting longer.

Two big heroes for me. The wonderful Soop. The kitchen was the first place I posted when joining GN and the friendship, fun and empathy given to all has kept it in its rightful place as one of the best threads on GN. Thank you dear Soop

The other is the wonderful Miss Marydoll and her Lockdown Maths Classes. These were the best fun I have ever had on GN and all of us who were involved will never forget the laughter and games. Thank you too Marydoll

I would also like to mention Anniebach who has kept the Black Dog going with support for others for many years, long before I ever joined GN. Her kindness and caring are much valued by many who have passed through seeking comfort and help from someone who understands.

fairfraise Mon 22-Aug-22 14:16:15

I read every day and always enjoy. I too was in the MathsClass two years ago and the kindness shown by teacher was so good, especially as I gave the answer away in my very first post. Doodle, Pantglas, Calendar girl, Marydoll and all the others were very patient and it was great fun. I've since changed my name. It was a lot of fun. There are so many kind and helpful posters here!

MissMarpleknows Mon 22-Aug-22 14:28:57

At a time when I (a lurker only) was very anxious about breast cancer, I received kindness and follow up support from Gransnet without measure. In my dark days, that compassion & kindness kept me going. I’ve found it to be an amazing phenomenon. ?

crazyH Mon 22-Aug-22 14:39:39

Yes, there are some great people on here - I don’t get up early enough to post on Mick’s Goodmorning thread but I love to read what every one is planning for the day. Nosey, that’s what I am ?

Grannynannywanny Mon 22-Aug-22 14:42:06

I first dipped my toes into Gransnet at the start of lockdown as a pupil in Miss Marydoll’s maths class. It was a wonderful escape from the loneliness of lockdown. Most days in class I needed a box of tissues beside me as I laughed so much the tears rolled down my face ?
So 3 cheers and ? for Miss Marydoll ( and all those norty classmates)

dragonfly46 Mon 22-Aug-22 14:42:35

Yes Anniebach who was especially kind to me when I was first diagnosed with cancer. She is so caring about others despite having problems of her own.

Namsnanny Mon 22-Aug-22 14:45:26

Thank you Sago a welcome and thoughtful threadsmile
Thanks again flowers

It’s good to have GSM here for her helpful legal knowledge at times.

Marydoll who is so inclusive and supportive - a thoroughly good and more important kind person. Here for everybody and who gets the day off to a positive start.

Yammy Mon 22-Aug-22 14:56:27

I would like to thank Fanny for always being a team player and trying to keep us all together with her informative posts.flowers

Not sure if allowed to mention a gransnetter who has sadily died.
But here goes Jings
When I posted several years ago that I was nervous about an operation especially the anaesthetic, jings PM'd several times.
And whilst I was in hospital gowned up and waiting to go down to theatre she very kindly sent me a Pm telling me, It would soon be over. thanks

I totally agree.

Bridie22 Mon 22-Aug-22 19:14:08

I would like to say a big thank you to "Bluebelle" who supported me through lockdown and has become a continuous support and dear friend.
Thank you to the ladies on the estrangement thread for their support also.
Miss Adventure...I love your take on life...you are a strong lady.

Auntieflo Mon 22-Aug-22 19:24:08

How lovely to thank all who have been of help to Gransnetters.
I have been on here for a good few years and Mick is a star for opening up most mornings. Also to his second in commanders who take up the baton when he is absent. Anniebach, who never fails to say Good Morning to me and how I do appreciate it.
Marydoll for her novellas and wise words.
GermanShepherdsMum for her advice, along with Pammiel, who I haven't seen for a while.
For friends made on Meet Ups.
Finally, to all who have answered or helped me on here, especially GrandMattie's DH.

ShazzaKanazza Mon 22-Aug-22 20:06:17

I’ve only been on GN a few months but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know people virtually. I agree with everyone who is mentioned. I really wish I’d joined years ago. Thankyou all x

Dogsmakemesmile Mon 22-Aug-22 20:50:37

Yes, a great thanks to Soop for opening up her kitchen. A real haven.
I started on the Good Morning thread but ceased not for any negative reason but for time reasons and was also worried I had inadvertently caused offence when I failed to read a thread above mine...silly reason. But I remember Mick who shared his daily plans. It was a lovely way to start the day.
I have received tremendous support here and for that I am very grateful.

Marydoll Mon 22-Aug-22 21:05:33

My heroes are all those, who have quietly and without fuss, supported me through the trials and tribulations of my deteriorating health.

You will never realise how much that support has meant to me, especially just now, when I am finding life difficult. I was very tearful today, (in a good way) reading the lovely comments.

As for Miss MDoll's Maths class, you were the best (and most troublesome) class I ever had.
I have to admit, even I was scared of Depute Head, Miss Charleygirl!!!

Charleygirl5 Mon 22-Aug-22 21:35:03

Marydoll there is no need for you to be scared of me. I do have my sights on Doodle I feel with time she could be trained. I have not given up totally with pantglas but time is a problem.

Where I could I have given information to people from my ex-professional life. That to me is what GN is all about- I love the fun but also if one needs professional help there is usually somebody who can help.

I have a coffee morning each month with 3 other GNs and this is year 5. We get along like a house on fire but I doubt if we would ever have met in real life, our paths would not have crossed.
