As an antidote to some unpleasantness I think we should have a positive thread.
I would like to start by saying a huge THANK YOU to a lovely gentleman from Brackley.
I may not post but I read your thread and love it’s gentle simplicity and charm.
Thank you.

I’d like to add my thanks to the posters of the gentle threads as well and I am a regular reader but only an occasional poster. Lots of people have mentioned some lovelies by name and I agree. I’ve had some lovely PMs and some good advice, when I’ve been struggling. I’d also like to thank Urmstongran as well, as she always makes me smile #lazygran. She kept me entertained when stuck in Spain during the first lockdown.

Just realised it sounds as though I was stuck in Spain, during lockdown, when it was Urmstongran herself. Oops. ?

The ‘Good Morning’ thread from Mick was the first one I started with after joining GN. Later I found the kitchen, Soop is unfailingly kind and comforting and I have been much in need of both at times over the last few years.

So many people have been supportive through my ‘wobbles’ and I couldn’t list them all, but they know who they are.

I discovered Gransnet not long before lockdown, so glad I did because it certainly helped a lot in those difficult days. I too regularly read and really appreciate Mick's and Soop's gentle and supportive threads. I enjoy reading all the posters mentioned throughout, so many unsung heroes/ heroines.

I read most days and contribute occasionally, I'm still a bit of a nervous poster. I worry about missing people out if I am replying to several comments. I was really touched by the support and kind PMs I received during DH'S recent illness.

Sago, thank you for this thread, it is the perfect timely reminder of the good will and kindness expressed daily on GN, when other threads can be less pleasant.

Annie for her support and kindness.
grannygravy who supported me years ago when adoption was discussed.

What a lovely thread! For 7 years I have come on here every morning and popped back in during the day. I am so happy to be part of the Gransnet Family and therefore want to say "If you are a Gransnetter I THANK YOU!!" Cheers to you ALL wine

Marydoll Tue 23-Aug-22 08:04:41

I agree, Danni Rae.
I joined about the same time and can't believe that I would make so many new friends at my ripe old age!

I just wanted to add my comments and thanks for the kind words and good advice I have received on here after the sudden death of my husband.
Kindness costs little but can mean so much. ❤

It is so nice seeing such a pleasant, gentle thread like this not being derailed as poor phoenix was. Kindness does cost very little.
I was not around when GN started but not long after so I have seen the very good and awful side of GN. Thankfully there are so many good and pleasant people around with a sense of fun.

There are too many to mention so Thank you to all the people who have answered my queries ,and to those who send good vibes before my operation .

henetha Tue 23-Aug-22 09:29:04

I'd like to say how much you kind people on GN have meant to me over the years. Although I am wary of some posters, the great majority are lovely. Thank you so much.

I enjoy the crafts that people do and the lovely paintings and photos. I’ve learnt about legal and tech stuff. Looked at clothing websites that have been recommended, often ending up spending money. I think my first post was asking for help with cleaning something. Of course these days I know better #lazygran?
Thank you all ?

Somebody upthread described Gransnet as being like a coffee morning where you can choose which conversation to join. I’m hard of hearing so can’t join in any conversations in an actual coffee morning but here I can and it helps enormously. Sago thanks for a lovely thread and an opportunity to say thank you to those who give support and lighten our days.

Parsley3 Tue 23-Aug-22 10:29:50

Gransnet is at its best when a poster asks for help on any issue, emotional or practical. We have such a wide range of knowledge and experience that if I want information about something I don't know about I can confidently say I know a GN who does. It never fails.

Charleygirl5 Tue 23-Aug-22 11:11:59

I agree, the practical advice is second to none and over the years I have picked up a few snippets from here.

I got lots of restoration tips when I wanted to chalk paint an old fire grate. I was very grateful for them as had never used chalk paint before.

Yes kindness is THE word to use on here. We get enough nastiness about politics, reds against blues blah blah on tv, bad and upsetting news etc. Burying my head in the sand but still smiling, bring it on! ?

grandtanteJE65 Wed 24-Aug-22 12:12:22

Such a good idea with this thread.

There are so many nice people posting on Gransnet - thank you one and all.

And thank you OP for reminding us of all the nice, kind and helpful people.

Every day is like a school day on GN! I have found so much useful information on here from the many Wise Ones, who have wonderful knowledge and, most importantly, are happy to pass it on. I'm not sure how much knowledge was gained in MissMary 's Maffs Klarsis, but they were so much fun! Thank you Miss smile

There is so much support and kindness offered on here, which has been a lifeline for some and just the sheer companionship means so much.

I seem to have got lost on GrNsnet. I can’t find Mick from Brackley anywhere.

Look for for Good Morning thread in last hour/day. It's a new thread each day.

I thought the early morning thread by Mick had finished as it's not shown on the daily list anymore, I was hoping all was well with him. How do I find it now please?

Without mentioning names, I have found some wise, kind and supportive people on GN. Friends.

Thanks Marydoll, crossed posts.
