Yes, it's very autumnal already. It's the first day of meteorological autumn tomorrow. The garden is bucking up again with the cooler weather and morning dew. I love the longer evenings and lighting some candles.

I get up early, about 5.45am to go out and pick tomatoes from greenhouse.

Definitely quite dark and has felt autumnal for some time.

Calendargirl Wed 31-Aug-22 10:42:14

Sorry, I digressed into mornings.

Yes, nights are definitely ‘drawing in’.

Shinamae Wed 31-Aug-22 10:44:11

I absolutely love it when the nights start drawing in. I am so much more a winter person than a summer person…⛈?☔️❄️

It’s not just you Bea. I have DD2’s dog some days and I’ve been caught out in the middle of a wood when it’s suddenly gone dark and needed my phone’s light to follow the track. It’s only a couple of weeks since we’d be out at 10pm. I’m hoping for an Indian Summer before we’re plunged into Winter. Think I’ll get a bottle of gin to lift my mood though! ?.

I can no longer go bare-armed and bare-legged when the mornings and nights are getting cooler. But I like trousers and woolies so quite content amd I just love a throw when sitting about.

I used to much prefer winter and still do in some ways. But I can't help worrying about being cold and the heating being too expensive etc. At least the living is cheaper in summer.

Mapleleaf Wed 31-Aug-22 10:49:36

Yes, it’s seemed particularly noticeable this week, though of course, cloudier, greyer skies add to the impression of it getting darker earlier.
The nights are definitely pulling in though, cloudier skies or not?.

I do love Autumn evenings and it seems to have arrived so quickly, scented candles glowing on a small table gives off a sweet aroma to the lounge when you can cuddle into a throw & settle down to one of your favourite TV programmes.

We were marooned in the Peak District during the power cut, owing to heavy snow, last autumn and I realised how awful it is to be without heat in the bitter cold. We endured 48 hours and ended up sitting in our car on the heated seats before managingto get home.
I really feel for people who will not be able to warm their homes this winter. Warmth in our cold climate is not sybaritic but a necessity.

It is getting dark much earlier, I had to turn a light on at 8:30pm yesterday! I love the long summer evenings but I definitely prefer the gentler sunshine and softer light of autumn.

I too have sat with my comfy throw over my legs and cold feet the last two nights.

I’m also starting to fancy and cook more autumnal meals.

I mis-read the title and thought someone had to throw on their legs! I'm closing the curtains earlier but due to the pain in my hips I'm sitting/ leaning on a large ice pack. I always have bare legs and only occasionally put on a cardigan. We've not had any heating on since March. I shall try and manage with just a throw downstairs instead of putting it on for as long as possible. I think I must be quite warm blooded.

Still quite cool down but in Melbourne though nice sunshine. Went for a walk with a couple of friends, the wattles are stunning at this time of year.

I have a throw over my feet in the evenings but the nights are still very warm in E Kent. I don’t have much more than a sheet and very light bedspread.

MissAdventure Thu 01-Sept-22 06:47:57

I'm still sleeping on top of my bed.

I moved the fan out of my room last night, but I may have to bring it back.

The ground is covered with leaves, but it isn't Autumn leaves in all their glory and variety of colour. It is dry shrivelled brown leaves, the signs of trees under stress from lack of water and shedding shrivelled yellow leaves, crisp around the edges, to reduce the tree's need for water.

I am another autumn and winter lover. I cannot wait to be back in thick sweaters and trousers and wearing a coat again.

At the moment although early mornings, like now require a jacket when I go out for my morning walk and forage for blackberries, by lunch time it is hot and I am out in a light cotton top.

BlueBalou Thu 01-Sept-22 06:54:51

I noticed that too M0nica, it’s mainly chestnut leaves on the ground, they seem to have a type of blackspot too.
I love autumn, the heat of summer isn’t for me nowadays. I love the mellow sunshine and crisp mornings.

Woke to mists and a very pink dawn this morning. Autumnal chill but another glorious day on Loch Lomond ahead.

MissAdventure Thu 01-Sept-22 07:10:07

Oh how glorious! smile

Me too! I feel the sort of thrill when I see the first signs of Autumn that most people have in the spring.

It's night driving that don't like. We live in an area of unlit roads. Don't care what they say new headlights are blinding.

It's been lovely out and about in the evenings and coming home in the daylight.

Last night driving my grandsons home, I was aware of the sun lowering in the sky, which will soon make early morning and evening difficult (for me) when driving into dazzling sun.

I dug out my fleecy socks and it didn’t seem right its too early. It looks like my summer dressers have to go back into wardrobe hibernation they only had a brief appearance so far this year. I know we had very hot weather but it was only for a brief time.
I do love my thick warm jumpers and autumn is my favourite season for all the colours nature brings. I have never been a sun worshipper but the long cold days and nights make my bones ache. There is comfort in warm clothes and casseroles and softly scented candles all help make me more cosy.
