Bit misty here in the mornings and small lamp on at 8pm.
I have put the very summer golf clothes away (sleeveless tops) but kept one back just in case. I loathe cold weather so I expect I will be moaning on here for the next six months. We came north to be near our daughter but we long for the south for many different reasons.

I used one of my brand new hot water bottles inside my throw. It does feel like autumn especially with all the preparations for colder houses in the news.

After dinner I take a cup of tea out to the garden bench to enjoy the last of the garden, the birds going home and the bats flitting about. This last few nights I've had to do it before I wash up as it's already getting dark by the time I've finished eating.

In winter, when I get up to make my morning coffee the first thing I do is I light a candle in the kitchen. This morning was the first time I lit it. Definitely the scent of autumn in the air.

I've been sorting out my throws and washing them. Also my warm cardigans, getting them ready for colder days.
I did put my duvet back on the bed a few days ago but was much too hot last night and threw it off in the early hours.

DH and I go for a walk down by the beach at about 7 in the evenings. I said to him last night that it won't be long before we have to discard our shorts and t-shirts and that it will be dark by 7 in a few weeks.
We are still sleeping with just a sheet over us, not sure how long it will be before we put the duvet back on the bed.
I ordered myself a hot water bottle yesterday, just in case.

For weeks I've been worried about the disappearance of bees and butterflies in the garden despite having lots of pollinator-friendly flowers. Then yesterday they reappeared and the penny dropped. Plants reduce their production of nectar when they suffer water shortage. We've had heavy rain and everything's getting back to normal.

Autumn is my favourite season and I quite like winter. Time to be cosy. It may have to be with hot water bottles and throws rather than heating this year.

I went out today and saw a changed world. Everyone was wearing long sleeved, tops, some even jackets, bare arms and bare legs were mainly covered. Even the children had long sleeve clothes or light jackets on.

Most of all I noticed the change of colour from colourful supper dresses, t shirts and trousers, to black, black and black again. made it look as if the pavements were inhabited by upright ants, all scurrying around.

I love the Autumn sunshine and hope we get lots of it this month for various reasons ...its just the darkness I find hard to cope with...am definitely a SAD person as in Seasonal Affective Disorder..

Fleurpepper Thu 01-Sept-22 19:28:23

Days are certainly getting shorter! But I love the crisp autumn light.

hollysteers Thu 01-Sept-22 19:37:06

The temperature the last few weeks has been just right for me, not too cold, not too hot. I wish we had more of it.
It’s cooler here in the north and I had two throws over my knees watching tv last night.
I quite like getting cosy with candles etc and have a new mini travel hot water bottle recommended online, it’s very cute.
Sometimes long sunny days make me feel guilty as I feel I should be outside, now I can indulge my supine tendencies, read my books and waste time here?

MissAdventure Thu 01-Sept-22 19:37:18

I'd be happy with this kind of weather and temperature perpetually. smile

HowVeryDareYou Thu 01-Sept-22 19:42:45

I slept under the duvet (4.5 tog) last night, for the 1st time in weeks. I woke up at 3am, far too hot. It's nearly quarter to 8 and I've just put the lamps on. I don't like the dark early evenings.

aggie Thu 01-Sept-22 19:51:46

It’s still too bright for lamps here ,in NI , been too hot all day but yellow rain warning for the week end !

BlueBelle Thu 01-Sept-22 19:52:28

Still lovely and warm here on the east coast and nor a drop of rain for months Not dark yet but a lovely mauve and pink streaked sky, really pretty.

MissAdventure Thu 01-Sept-22 20:11:55

Its grey and cloudy here, but still warm.
I have backdoor and the window open to get a draft running through my living room.

Ordinarily I spent a lot of time outside in this weather, just admiring my plants and looking at the moon. smile

Jaxjacky Thu 01-Sept-22 20:34:20

Shorts and t shirt still on here in the south, but we have much needed rain starting overnight, so jeans tomorrow.

TillyT Thu 01-Sept-22 21:00:08

Me too, I love the coziness indoors especially if there’s a storm going on outside !!!! Candles glowing (batteries) & gorgeous smells, faux fur throws, hearty fulfilling stews & casseroles. Good TV especially YouTube visits to all the Château’s & life in the rest of the world will help keep me cosy
I know it’s going to be tough this year but a bit of escapism will certainly help us all through. Don’t forget life is what we make it even in adverse times we have to pull some goodness out of every day one way or another ?

Biscuitmuncher Thu 01-Sept-22 21:29:03

I've been roasting all day!

Nannagarra Thu 01-Sept-22 21:31:16

Shorts and t shirts still being worn here. Front and back doors plus windows open throughout the day. Through draught is very welcome.
We’re sleeping under a 7 tog duvet with the bedroom window permanently open.
The black spots may well be rhytisma acerinum, a harmless fungus commonly found on sycamores and maples. Autumn is predominantly the time for the emergence of fungi fruit bodies, the study of which is fascinating. They are nature’s recyclers.
For me it’s time to alter my body clock to take advantage of natural sunlight.

Greyduster Thu 01-Sept-22 21:34:41

It was definitely cooler when I woke up early this morning - I put a light throw over the quilt on my bed, and this evening, when DD and I went out for a walk, we both wore sweaters for the first time. I used to like the short days and dark nights, but they will be a trial for me this winter I’m afraid.

MissAdventure Thu 01-Sept-22 21:36:07

I quite enjoy feeling a bit chilly.
Just as well, I suppose.

Shinamae Thu 01-Sept-22 22:00:33

MissAdventure

I quite enjoy feeling a bit chilly.
Just as well, I suppose.

Me too MissA….❄️

Callistemon21 Thu 01-Sept-22 22:02:48

I mis-read the title and thought someone had to throw on their legs!
Me too Grandmasue

I've just pulled a throw over my knees, feeling a bit chilly after all that hot weather we got used to.

Dont like the colder weather creeping in! Having to put the light on & close the curtains by 7.30 is a sign of miserable cold times to come. Love living by the sea in Spring, Summer & Autumn just do not like being cold as I freeze up. Back to bundled up in thermals, thick sweaters & trousers. Thick socks that fight back when I try to pull them on! Cold walks by the sea not going too far as too chilly! Why do we seem to go from Summer, miss most of Autumn & months of Winter? Roll on Spring ?
