I am having a sleepless night.

I just went into my bathroom and found this beauty in my bath!!!!

MissAdventure
A bit drastic, but I follow your line of thought, Husband has just left, having done a search of the house, so now I am creeping around nervously, checking everywhere.

Oldnproud, you are right, this is a terrible affliction.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 08:22:36

I've done it!!!!
I put the bowl over it!!!!
All by myself, like a big girl!!!! grin
And I "went" while I was there.

Though I'm amazed you didn't accidentally 'go' when you first spotted the spider, if you know what I mean wink ?

I know exactly what you mean.
It's been known, believe me.

Thank you all for helping me.
I do appreciate it.

I am loving this thread. Sorry, Miss A, but I am. I don't like spiders either, but I think I could pee whilst one was in the bath, cos I know it couldn't get out.

Hope the cavalry arrives soon, Miss A.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 08:41:30

I really don't think I could go somewhere with such big spiders, Aussiegran.
It would be too much for me.

I'm still all jumpy now and this will last a few days now.
Ridiculous, I know, but I can't help it.
I used to sellotape over the plugholes and so on, so I have improved a bit.

ExDancer Sat 03-Sept-22 08:50:02

Drape a large towel over the side of the bath so it can climb out and run across the floor and squeeze itself into a corner.
Someone once told me there is a spider in every corner of a room - so thats 8 in a square room, not forgetting windows and more if there are alcoves and fancy bits.
(PS I'm sure they were kidding me).

silverlining48 Sat 03-Sept-22 08:57:16

I am
On nodding terms with our bathroom spider A few days ago he got stuck in the bath but we helped him out and he’s back in his home under the bath.
We have another in the living room who pops out occasionally. Expect there are others that I havnt met. I am mildly nervous but would never kill them.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 09:01:32

I'd much rather have mice, moths, millipedes, daddy long legs, a pack of wolves, even, than spiders.

Sara1954 Sat 03-Sept-22 09:02:48

ExDancer
I am just about to start cleaning, I really don’t need to know that!

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 09:03:51

Oh thank you, thank you, god (or someone) for not letting me wake up with that monstrosity on my pillow.
The thought!!!!

Sara1954 Sat 03-Sept-22 09:08:01

Probably nearly sixty years ago, I was at a friends house, a neighbor popped in for a cup of tea, she said she’d been cleaning the bathroom, and when she looked in the bathroom mirror, she was surprised to see one on her head!

I have never forgotten the horror of that story, and am constantly checking in mirrors.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 09:13:39

grin
The thought of that!
On somebody else, obviously, not me.

I once was chatting to a friend and she started staring at my neck.
I said "what?" and just knew straight away.
A spider had crawled down inside my t shirt.
We were outside (on the usual place - my backdoor step) but I tore off the t shirt and stamped all over it and we were both screaming like banshees!!

downtoearth Sat 03-Sept-22 09:13:50

My DGD is just like you MissA,as was her mum and also my son, fortunately I dont have a problem with them.

E moved into her own flat 6 months ago,and one night I received an hysterical call from her,one was loose in her room, not having my car any more there was little I could for, next thing I know there was a knock on the front door, and there she stood in pjs, having paid £26 she could ill afford for a taxi as we live 25 miles apart, and left the spider to its own devices I then had to go and deep clean next day before she would return.smile

I have a spider catcher what sucks them up so you can take them outside I even struggle to use that ,I have sprayed peppermint all around house to try and deter makes coming in a wimp.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 09:20:53

When I first did care work in a tiny home, i did nights.
I once had to wake up one of the residents to come and get a spider out of the kitchen sink. blush
I used to be exactly the same as E, downtoearth.
I have been patiently training myself over the years to deal with spiders, it's a slow process.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 09:24:37

I can't find my new peppermint oil, because that deters mice, too apparently.

It's probably in a cupboard somewhere, and I now wouldn't want to go poking around in case there's a spider in there too.

NotSpaghetti Sat 03-Sept-22 09:28:33

I think you may find the bowl TOO BIG! ???

Shinamae Sat 03-Sept-22 09:28:47

I have an electronic device in my downstairs bedroom which I’m not sure whether it works or not but I am so shortsighted without my glasses that even if it was within 6 inches of me I would not see it… I read recently that they can hide behind pictures but I really don’t want to remove my pictures to check ? my dad always said leave a towel draped over the bath and then the spider will make its own way out and I would never kill one…

lemsip Sat 03-Sept-22 09:40:44

must be spider season. huge one on bedroom ceiling so went out of the room to get something to deal with it with and it had gone when i returned so had to clean everywhere and hope i got it.
then went to a neighbours to feed the cat while they're away and a huge spider in the sink., I I done the bowl and card trick and through it outside.

harrigran Sat 03-Sept-22 09:42:03

I have one of those battery powered sucky things but the last couple of spiders ? I tried to suck up were too big to go in they splayed their legs over the opening ?

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 09:42:36

I kill them, if it is my only option.
I wish I could be kinder, but I'm so frightened that the flight or fight response is strong.

I've been working on picking up small ones and putting them outside, and have managed that quite well, lately.
(With no glasses on, and the blob mantra, plus a whole toilet roll, almost)

Todays specimen, though, is,literally as big as my hand.

That's too much!

Callistemon21 Sat 03-Sept-22 09:47:37

Spice101

Insect spray will fix it!

Nooooo!

However is you are really scared of them you might try and wash him down the plug hole
He might climb back up though.

Is he called Incy Wincy?

I used to be terrified of spiders but seem to have overcome that to some extent now.

Can you encourage it to walk on to a piece of card, put a tumbler or glass bowl over it then deposit it outside? Or do it the other way round, making sure it's little legs aren't trapped.
I'd come and do it for you but it's rather a long way to travel.

PS it's more frightened of you than you are of it. ?

Callistemon21 Sat 03-Sept-22 09:48:09
