Glad it got away safely. But I think it was an English house spider. Apparently they don’t like outdoors and if you see another one, chances are it’s come from a neighbour’s house where it might have gone after being thrown out of yours! Here’s one I caught a while ago and sent it packing.
I have a few of these lids about along with bits of card so that I can grab one easily and capture an intruder to put it out, always hoping that they don’t run too fast. The big ones need to draw their legs in out of the way! ???

i laughed when you said the bathroom is off limits, i either catch them in my cupped hands or use a plastic cup and put them outside, i never kill them as they are useful for keeping the flies away.

I have just had a text through from the ex to say that if I spot another spider, I can text him whatever the time, and he will come and deal with it.

I can't remember why I found him so loathsome all those years ago, now.
