I am having a sleepless night.

I just went into my bathroom and found this beauty in my bath!!!!

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 09:49:15

Nope.
I can't get close to a spider that size.
Absolutely no way.

Callistemon21 Sat 03-Sept-22 09:49:21

Wash it down the plug hole with cold water then put the plug in. At least it's got a fighting chance then.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 09:51:35

It wouldn't fit down the plug hole!!!
It's about three times too big, and I have s very small and delicate plughole, I'll have you know. smile

I have two spider catchers from Lakeland - one kept upstairs and one downstairs. They have a very long tube and a battery operated vacuum in the handle so you can hoover the beast up into the tube and keep it at arms’ length until you can chuck it outside. I don’t kill them, much as I fear and hate them, because I remember hearing once that it was unlucky. Obviously an old wives’ tale but I don’t take chances!

Beautful Sat 03-Sept-22 09:58:04

Just be extra careful ... like someone has said ... spray it with insect spray ... could you get shower spray & flush him away ? Just a thought ...

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 09:58:28

I think I am going to have to look at some spider catchers.
Outside my flat are all my plants, so I have to bypass them, still holding the spider, to get it away from my space.
The longer I'm near a spider, the more the panic wells up.

Just drape a towel over the edge of the bath. Instant spider ladder, problem solved.

I’m quite averse to arsches but I don’t mind spiders.

GSM
Being unlucky ... my son inlaw was unlucky as he got bit by a False Widow Spider ... think last year & was in hospital ... thats unlucky ... saying that ... I can understand the way you feel though

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 10:02:07

I don't want it to come out of the bath, though.
It would be galloping around, free!

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 10:05:55

We have quite a lot of false widows around here, I think.
For me, it's all to do with the look of a spider, rather than fear of being bitten, or stung, or whatever they do. The spider in the bath is very detailed.
I don't like detailed ones.

I’m sure it would go down the plug hole MissA. It can’t get out of the bath, the sides are too slippery, so turn the cold tap fully on and it will scrunch up and go down the plug hole. You could direct it towards the plug hole with a jug of water. Keep the water running to make sure it’s drowned and washed down into the drain, then turn off and put the plug in. Alternatively you could pour boiling water over it, which would be instant death, but I don’t think I could do that.

I found one between my two pillows when I made the bed the other morning. It wasn't a large one but was quite sturdy. It looked at me as if to say "Ha ha, I've been there all night and you didn't suspect a thing".

Luckily I managed to drop it through the window on to some foliage.

I have one of those battery powered sucky things but the last couple of spiders ? I tried to suck up were too big to go in they splayed their legs over the opening ?

The image this conjures up has made me laugh out loud!!
??️??️?

Blossoming Sat 03-Sept-22 10:08:17

It was galloping around before it fell into the bath. It will be so traumatised by the experience it will run away and hide. It may visit your neighbour.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 03-Sept-22 10:08:42

Yes, Beautful, they can be really nasty. My son found one inside the lid of his wheelie bin.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 10:09:16

Oh I couldn't do it either.
That sounds shocking, doesn't it?

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 03-Sept-22 10:12:38

I looked in the mirror one morning and saw one on top of my head. ? It must have been lurking in my top and fell onto my head when I put it on. Horrors!!! Thank goodness for a handy towel to swipe it off and cover it while I got my catcher.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 10:13:27

That's why I like my electric racquet.
Instantaneous, nothing drops off them, it even shrinks, dries, and holds the husk thats left on it's wires.
A sharp tap over the dustbin and the job is done.

annodomini Sat 03-Sept-22 10:13:33

My niece was arachnophobic on the extreme scale like you MissA. She went on a course, held, I think, at a local zoo, and is now able to tolerate - even handle - spiders the size of a tarantula. So it is possible to conquer this disabling phobia.
I was brought up never to kill a spider and I never have. I use the sheet of paper and a tumbler method to help them out of the bathroom and through the window.

NotSpaghetti Sat 03-Sept-22 10:19:31

I think it will straddle the plughole if you try to wash it down.
Not nice!!

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 10:23:34

I have heard that there are courses to teach you how to overcome the fear, and that they work.
A teacher when I was very little put some time in, and got me to hold a stag beetle, by teaching me all the fascinating facts about them.

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Sept-22 10:30:02

Well done with the bowl and the wee MissA.

WARNING - big spider story
When we were in Goa, a minor tourist attraction was the most ginormous spider.
It lived in a tree next to a river.
In order to get the spider to come out to be admired, a local chap would bang its web with a broom handle.
It didn’t damage the web
I think that it may have eaten birds

Yes it called Exposure Therapy.
I mentioned it to you and posted a link about it earlier this morning.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 10:35:17

Oh, I never saw the link.
My mind was focused on the spider.
Thank you. smile

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Sept-22 10:36:22

Yes, I did think that might have been the case! smile
