Just whack it with your slipper or wash it down the plug hole. I hate them to the best spider is a dead one.

MissAdventure
Don’t you have to get up really close with those racquet things?

As for courses, even the thought of the course is terrifying, I think I’m a lost cause,

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 13:10:20

If you hold the racquet at arms length, then the distance is quite far, because the racquet itself has a long handle, and you know you can easily get your target..

But not today.
One of my exes just came to fetch me some bread, and he got the spider for me, and walked a long way from my flat to let it go. smile

What a relief!!!

Sara1954 Sat 03-Sept-22 13:13:50

Oh a genuine hero MissAdventure!
As you say, what a relief!!!

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Sept-22 13:40:45

Hurray!
We can all sleep soundly tonight I hope!

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 14:06:44

I'll be checking my head all night, I think.
If any spider thinks it's going to sit on mine it'll be in for a surprise.

I shall hit my head with my racquet and see how it likes them apples!

I do agree!
I cannot bear the things.Autumn is their mating time I have heard, and they are dashing around boldly to find a mate quickly. The biggest ones are the females.

Have just found a spider in my bath, watched it trying to clamber up the side a couple of times, he kept falling back down so got a sheet of loo roll, put it where he was going to fall, but he saw and ran the other way.
A second attempt was successful, he went out of the window where there was something to hang into to break his fall.
Bash him with a slipper? No, I Couldn't do that.
I am glad your spider is safely off the premises all in one piece MissA.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 15:08:32

I just hope mine was the female.
I don't want to find an even bigger one!!! smile
You're very brave, silverlining
I have a,new found respect for you! grin

NotSpaghetti Sat 03-Sept-22 15:16:23

MissA I'm not 100% sure but think the females are the larger ones.

MawtheMerrier Sat 03-Sept-22 15:18:27

Why do so many people want to KILL spiders?
Do you want us to be overrun with flies?
Spiders trap and EAT flies
QED
Use my broom/feather duster trick, shake it outside and let them go! Panicking and squealing at a harmless creature and squashing it is pretty pointless as well as unnecessarily cruel. ? ? ?

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 15:19:38

Well, I hope that one was the female.
I've no wish to ever see her again.

silverlining48 Sat 03-Sept-22 15:40:37

As an alternative, the broom feather duster option is certainly worth a try next time.

Couldn't agree more. Hate them if you wish, but don't kill them.

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Sept-22 15:54:06

Yes. I honestly used to be terrified of daddy long legs when I was a child and teenager.
It started because when I was little, one of my ‘jobs’ was to pick lush and lovely grass for our Guinea pigs and rabbits. The best grass was always full of daddy long legs, which I sometimes squished, and always had flying at me (they have zero sense)
But, as an adult, I realised that it was ridiculous, and trained myself out of it. They don’t bother me at all now, and I’ll happily catch them and chuck them out
I don’t want to minimise anyone’s phobia though

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 15:59:49

There actually is a type of spider that wears a hat.
I think it makes it to impress the ladies.

Esspee Sat 03-Sept-22 16:11:49

We use a hand held vacuum cleaner on spiders, bluebottles and the like. Two weeks or more after sucking up a particularly large one OH decided to empty the vacuum into the kitchen bin.
You’ve guessed…out came the spider, even bigger than before and full of life. It must have survived on the regular supply of juicy flies and crumbs sucked up.

Fleurpepper Sat 03-Sept-22 16:24:24

Sorry but this is beyond cruel. If you are going to kill them, do it quickly and properly.

OP, did you learn German at school? (re your title)- it did make me giggle.

MawtheMerrier Sat 03-Sept-22 16:29:49

You spotted it too Fleurpepper ?

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 16:29:57

Attention!!
No spiders were harmed in the making of this thread.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 16:30:43

Yes, we all spotted it.

sazz1 Sat 03-Sept-22 17:07:28

I use a glass. Just pop it over the spider and slide paper or a coaster under it. Then shake it outside. Used to pick them up but one bit me last year. Nothing horrific a bit like a wasp sting.

Yes, lol. I would never criticise a spelling error, but in this case, I just had to giggle!

Maudi Sat 03-Sept-22 17:29:39

I always used to catch them in my hand and set them free but now there is the false widow spider I think twice about doing that, I try to catch them in a glass and set them free.
