Fed up with Strictly!

OK before you all pile in on me let me explain!

This is not my kind of programme but I know it is very popular and it is not compulsory so I watch something else, no problem with that, my local newspaper prints several articles about Strictly every day, again I don't have to read them so skip past them. What is really getting to me is the presenters on my local radio station seem obsessed with it. Every other item is about Strictly!

I listen to this station because it is the only local "talk" station rather than playing music all the time. I like to hear local news stories, local weather and traffic news. What I am getting is Strictly, local news story, Strictly, traffic news, Strictly, news bulletin, Strictly!!!!! It is driving me mad

Will now don my tin hat and hide behind the sofa!!

I watched Strictly till this year but, like others, got fed up with all the hype and screaming and weeping of relations etc. I gave up watching It Takes Two when Zoe Ball left. But I might start recording Strictly and fast forwarding over the nonsense, so thanks ChelseaJay for the suggestion.

I used to enjoy it but I’ve just got really fed up with it for the same reasons that have been mentioned. I’m one of the million of lost viewers who have become bored with the whole format.

What really irritates me is how they still try to make us believe that the results are happening on Sunday when everyone knows it happens on Saturday night. The judges and presenters all change clothes, just ridiculous.

The Beeb are going to milk it for all they can if they have a popular show. Myself I can't stand it and don't watch it. Migraine-inducing with all that noise and lights. But it's popular so, milk milk!

It is a bit of a yawn fest mostly but there is the occasional exceptional performance. Cut the twaddle, cut the “journeys I’m on”, get rid of Daley and Winkleman, I want to be entertained and I’m past caring about their private lives (not that I was ever interested).
Much prefer world drama (Walter Presents) on More4

Some very good sense talked. I don’t watch it because I hate the vulgarity of the sexualised costumes.

I used to like strictly when it began years ago and you recognised the celebrities, but now I feel they are scraping the barrel and I don’t recognise and haven’t heard of the majority of them so have lost interest and don’t care who wins, I often wonder apart from their family and friends does anyone really bother picking up the phone and voting for these so called celebs.

Nanatoone Thu 13-Oct-22 12:49:17

I dip in and out, didn’t watch for some years due to irritation with the format. All that hideous waiting to find out who is in the bottom two. So boring and humiliating for the people involved. Also the presenters are not my cup of tea at all. I do like the dancing though. Keeeeeep dancing….

Wades Nan…. Haven’t you realised yet they people are being dumbed down by this crap tv programming. I have ….my tv now gone the way of the dodo…as has my daughters and she’s got two kids ….after 2 weeks the kids didn’t care less…. got their books… their football practise….their volley ball ….their MMA…..( fight club) and their phones for keeping in touch with freinds, and playing games on….no social media WHATSOEVER!!! But then my daughter is a child psychologist and has seen first hand d the danger in social media….or as she calls it a forum for bullying! No ….as a family we don’t do crap!

I couldn’t possibly disagree with those who are fed up with the format. Sadly it appears that we are in the minority as it’s a very popular programme. At least it’s something that brings people together and contains no violence or gloom. We don’t have to watch it but let’s leave the many fans in peace!

I stopped watching years ago. Just too long winded for my liking but lots of people enjoy it.

Smileless2012

Watched one episode of the last series and was put off by all the over the top screaming and cheering and whoops and fake joy as you've said BlueBelle.

It's all the awful fakeness I just can't bear me too.

As the last series was recorded without an audience, due to Covid restrictions, I'm not sure just how much 'screaming and cheering' etc they managed? For goodness sake don't watch it now that all the audience is back..!! ?
P S. I hate all the yelling as well - the last series was such a relief ?

I watched part of one episode. I found it incredibly tedious and so strung out. Actually listened to some music instead on CDs.

polly123 Thu 13-Oct-22 14:13:55

Boring, formulaic with the most irritating presenters. Used to watch it but never do now.

Nicolenet Thu 13-Oct-22 14:51:37

I record it so that I can watch it without judges comments, except for scoring. I do not like rehearsals. Many contestants are best left out altogether. It will only be half interesting a few weeks before the end. Huge waste of time really is that show!

Sawsage2 Thu 13-Oct-22 15:12:55

I feel the same OP, so will join you behind the setee.

That’s in the eye of the beholder. ?

I like Strictly.

Obviously l'm an intellectual pygmy.

I used to enjoy it until recent years. I put Claudia on mute, I can’t stand her screeching. Tess I can put up with. The judges I feel are ok, although Motsi is very loud. The celebs are D list at best. I think some of the current pairings are pointless. Of the current batch I only had heard of the footballer, Kim Marsh and Ellie the swimmer. I do think it’s past it’s sell by date.

I know exactly what you mean I always found BBC breakfast like this , I know it is a BBC programme and there was usually one of their presenters on there but honestly you would think nothing else was happening in the world, luckily I have retired now and don't watch breakfast TV any longer so have got away from that. If you are on Twitter or FB or any other social media platform look to see if your local radio station has a page and complain about their coverage , say you think they are talking about the programme too much, have they always done this over the years? Or is it because they know one of the contestants? Is it every presenter or just the morning/breakfast show.

volver Thu 13-Oct-22 15:34:17

The celebs are D list at best.

Matt Goss. Tony Adams.

Some folk are very ill to please.

And we are all entitled to our own opinion.

volver Thu 13-Oct-22 15:41:34

Yes we are.

We are not entitled to call a member of one of the biggest boy bands ever, and the former captain of Arsenal and England, "D-list", when they're not.

Who are people expecting as contestants? The King?

Forsythia Thu 13-Oct-22 15:43:54

No less.

MerylStreep Thu 13-Oct-22 15:45:27

Football doesn’t come into my world so the only person I know who knows Tony Adams is my close friend. He went to her wedding.

Bijou Thu 13-Oct-22 15:48:18

Has been going on for too many years and taking too much time on a Saturday night. It must be very expensive produce.
I don’t know the “celebrities” who are taking part anyway.
I hardly watch BBC anyway. Too much football and repeats of old shows.
