When should you take down greetings cards?

We were married on my birthday. So every year we have a double lot of greetings cards.
This year we had a family gathering and so have more than usual.
My usually uncluttered lounge is very cluttered and I would like to take them down. DH wants to keep them up.
At Christmas we have 12th night but just how long should you display other cards?

In our house we have a two week rule, after that they are taken down.

10 days ish.
Cards are sooo expensive I feel you have to get your money's worth!

Usually seven to ten days here. It seems a shame to take them down any sooner.

2 weeks. I think I can handle that if I tidy them up a bit!

I leave mine up at least a week. This year I still have one of them up from my birthday in August ?

MrsKen33 Thu 13-Oct-22 07:44:04

Mostly, except at Christmas, within a few days. I can’t stand the clutter.

One week for birthdays and other celebrations.
Christmas cards on 2nd Jan.
If your DH wants to keep your celebratory cards up for a bit longer, can’t you come to a compromise and meet half way?

You take them down wherever you want to take them down I leave my birthday cards up for ages because they mean a lot to me and I m on my own and I like seeing them on a shelf up the corner of the room
Why don’t you make the twelfth night/ day rule for birthdays too it’s really not anything anyone can advise you on it’s got to be personal choice worked out with a compromise between the two of you

I take mine down the next day, but keep them in a drawer till the next year!

Greyduster Thu 13-Oct-22 07:48:14

Usually around a week. Then I save them all?‍♀️!

Lexisgranny Thu 13-Oct-22 07:58:10

Around a week and then keep ones from grandchildren in a special box.

DanniRae Thu 13-Oct-22 08:13:48

Mine go on my window sill and stay up for about a week.

mumofmadboys Thu 13-Oct-22 08:16:22

two weeks here

Grandmadinosaur Thu 13-Oct-22 08:17:15

Usually a couple of weeks. My DH always says how long are these cards staying up for? He says it jokingly but I always wait for that comment! Saying that mine are still up after 2 weeks 3 days. I have a lovely one with the GC on the front which is stopping me from putting them away.

I keep birthday/thank you cards up for 7/10 days on my hall table. I only display Christmas cards from family and close friends and they are taken down the day after Boxing Day. My next-door neighbor keeps her cards on display on the windowsill for four weeks.

M0nica Thu 13-Oct-22 08:33:29

Two weeks. But if you do not like the clutter, read them and bin them. There are no rules.

SunshineSally Thu 13-Oct-22 08:34:41

Ooh I’m definitely on my own here ? as we leave ours up for a month!

Jaberwok Thu 13-Oct-22 08:45:21

A week for birthday, anniversary and post cards unless they are particularly pretty. Twelfth night, January 5th, for Xmas cards and decorations.

MawtheMerrier Thu 13-Oct-22 08:47:02

Whenever you da** well please!
Your cards, your house!

Poppyred Thu 13-Oct-22 08:49:06

Seriously! Best to decide for yourselves!

RichmondPark1 Thu 13-Oct-22 08:49:57

I leave mine up for ages, sometimes months, very special ones last years and then get stuck in my recipe book or framed.

I enjoy the cheer and colour.

Redhead56 Thu 13-Oct-22 08:50:36

A week for all other cards but Christmas cards stay up til the Twelfth night.

Pittcity Thu 13-Oct-22 08:56:40

Wow. What a lot of different replies.
I have sorted them into birthday and anniversary and sort of squished them up. One lot on the hearth and the others on a console table.
I'll write thank you cards and then keep a couple in the memory box under my bed. DH is away at the weekend and probably won't notice they've disappeared!

eazybee Thu 13-Oct-22 08:58:11

Clip them together and hang them vertically, that way they don't clutter surfaces and fall over every time the door opens.
