Come the next General Election, who would you most rejoice to see losing their seat?

(Apart from Boris, that is, assuming you’re not a fan.)

Mine would be Jacob Rees-Mogg, no question.

"Embarrassing Northerner" Angela Rayner on Peston last night.

Being of north-western English origin myself I don't find Angela Rayner at all embarrassing. She's the kind of authentic voice of the women of the streets of that part of the world that's been mostly missing from Parliament, and entirely missing from the front benches, for far too long.

No doubt, like me 25 years earlier, she was set at an early age on a course leading to obscurity, meniality and leaving serious matters of state to her betters from the middle and upper classes. Like me she waved two fingers to all that. If the governing classes with their BBC accents and expensive suits find her annoyingly vulgar then long may she flourish. Being a capable politician shouldn't mean casting off the culture you were born into and well done Angela for refusing to do so.

1) Rees-Mogg
2) Patel
3) Braverman

Johnson goes without saying
And along with that lot anyone who does not put people before profit and prioritise looking after the most vulnerable in the community

I think Angela Rainer is a brilliant. A young mum who raised her children and went to college to better her education. She also looked after her mum who was Ill. I think she is an example to you youngsters. You don’t have to have a posh voice to be an MP

What's wrong with Angela Raynor! Highly articulate, quick thinking - and beautiful as well. Who cares about her accent? Her speech is clear and intelligent. Goddess help us if we have to stick with Etonian accents - what's all that about!!??

“Thick as mince” ?

Maremia Thu 27-Oct-22 17:30:12

If it's not too cheeky a question, or against the rules, I wonder how many of you, disparaging Angela Raynor, voted for Liz Truss?

RVK1CR Thu 27-Oct-22 17:35:14

Lyndylou

Diane Abbott

Ah, you mean abacus Abbott, I've called her that since her calculations for hiring more police - good choice

Chapeau Thu 27-Oct-22 18:34:47

Alister Jack. It might not be in a fridge but he's certainly hiding somewhere. And Rees-Mogg too.

I'd like to see the whole lot of Tory MPs out of a job, but I would especially like to see the back of:

Rees-Mogg, Dorries, Kwarteng, Truss, Patel, Braverman, Shapps, Duncan-Smith - oh just loads of them come to mind.

With regard to Angela Rayner, I think she has done very well, given her deprived background - apparently her mother could not read or write. She went to college to study social care and learned British Sign Language. She worked as a carer and then as a trade unionist. She has done an important and useful job and understands the plight of low paid workers. I think that is far more useful experience than acquiring theoretical knowledge which does not necessarily equip people to do jobs in the real world - Kwasi Kwarteng attended prep school and Eton and gained a PhD in economic history - and then crashed our economy.

Blossoming Thu 27-Oct-22 20:25:24

eazybee

She failed to complete her education, made no attempt to rectify this in later life, has no qualifications yet apparently thought she was competent to become the Shadow Secretary of State for Education.

Did you actually bother to read the replies to your nasty snobbish post? I don’t think it’s Angela Rayner who’s in need of education.

twiglet77 Thu 27-Oct-22 20:31:05

Jacob Rees-Mogg
Nadine Dorries
Nadhim Zahawi
Gavin Williamson
Dominic Raab
Robert Jenryck
Kwasi Kwarteng
Priti Patel
Suella Braverman
Anne-Marie Trevelyan
Jeremy Corbyn
Ian Blackford
David Lammy
Rebecca Long-Bailey
Angela Rayner
Diane Abbott
Annelise Dodds
…and my MP Anthony Browne

I think they’re all MPs, some may be former MPs, many are in the newly announced Cabinet. Sunak certainly scraped the barrel.

albertina Thu 27-Oct-22 21:09:21

Rees Mogg. Despicable man.

twiglet77 Thu 27-Oct-22 22:18:22

And Matt Hancock. Obviously.

Milest0ne Thu 27-Oct-22 23:06:10

Defiately J R Mogg, Suella Braverman and. Jake ( the fake) Berry. ( his local nickname)

Callistemon21 Thu 27-Oct-22 23:11:50

Oh dear, I'd miss the Moggster in a way ........
?

I did say he should be kept out of harm's way, not a Minister, but he is, supposedly, a good constituency MP so it's up to his constituents to decide.

CrafterInCumbria Fri 28-Oct-22 00:11:57

Agree

Lilyflower Fri 28-Oct-22 05:35:20

I don’t think anyone who harbours hate or seeks revenge or to scapegoat others should have power or influence.

I have a feeling that the truly terrifying levels of anger and vituperation in private and public life are what lead ordinary people to keep voting in the same way time after time.

Delila Fri 28-Oct-22 12:53:56

Pritti and Suella, pretty names, ugly characters.

James Cleverly - everybody’s friend? Defends the indefensible.

Rees Mogg isn’t eccentric, he’s a poseur.

MissAdventure Fri 28-Oct-22 12:55:13

I so agree about Mogg!!

Delila Fri 28-Oct-22 13:22:40

Well said, LadyHonoria.

Starmer cos he’s a wet lettuce and I still don’t know what his policies will be unless he’ll just promise everything like Corbyn.

Another vote for Rees-Mogg and Diane Abbott and Bojo as we are sick of him now.

No he isn't. Find out for yourself

LadyHonoriaDedlock, re Angela Rayner, to me it’s absolutely not a question of having a ‘BBC accent’ or expensive clothes - it’s a question of understanding what constitutes acceptable behaviour.

Other MPs, including those in prominent positions, who have come from backgrounds that were very poor or WC or both, have seemed to manage it perfectly well, while taking pride in their origins, or at least not being in the least ashamed of them.

jocork Fri 28-Oct-22 19:06:40

Yammy

The M.P. for my own constituency IF I knew who he was? His predecessor was Rory Stewart who seemed to be everywhere doing lots of work. The one now is an unseen, unknown quantity.
He will get re-elected though as this is such a safe seat you could put a sheep up and it would get voted in.

They used to say my hometown was such a safe seat for labour that you could put a monkey up wearing a red rosette and it would win. Sadly it turned blue at the last GE when the red wall fell! I don't live there any more, so had no part in the travesty, but I'm guessing a lot of people will have regrets now!

I like many others on here would particularly like to see the smile wiped from the face of Rees-Mogg but there are a few others - Gove, Truss, Hancock and of course Johnson!

Callistemon21 Fri 28-Oct-22 19:20:51

Rees Mogg isn’t eccentric, he’s a poseur.
I know but I have to have someone in politics to amuse me.

I'd so miss Angela Rayner's hair, it's awesome!
How shallow ?

M0nica Fri 28-Oct-22 20:23:25

easybee I have a friend who failed all her A levels and ended up a Judge. Now retired with an ample pension.

Yes, she did qualify as a solicitor, but she was single and childless, not coping as a single mother.

I have endless respect for Angela Rayner, even if I agree with her on very little.
