RIP Jerry Lee Lewis

JLL did not have a relationship with his mother or daughter (as far as I know) so did not have an incestuous marriage as some have claimed. Cousin marriages are prohibited in some cultures and encouraged in others. They are not illegal in the UK or in many US states.

Don't apologise, kate. This has brought back brilliant memories of a fabulous musical called The Million Dollar Quartet about the imaginary time that Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley and JLL were all at Sun Records on the same day.

It is a wonderful excuse for loads of great music.

We've only seen it 4 times.

It is not illegal to marry your first cousin, let alone your second.

Oh, heaven forbid, can't bear the thought!
😁

Thanks kittylester - is it on Netflix?

Chestnut my father's sister married her cousin in the 40s, in the States. And yes, not considered incest. Not excusing the man, he certainly does seem to have made a right mess of it all, but!

Went to a lovely small wedding with young friends yesterday, and at the Inn where we went to have lunch, we had drinks in the bar at the back and they had the most amazing collection of vinyls! All originals from the late 50s to 70s. Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Aretha, Leonard Cohen, Beatles and Stones, and ... JLL. We listened to it but none of us were aware of the significance.

I have a great aunt aged 19 years who married her first cousin in the late 1800s. They had 13 children, 4 of them died as babies, 9 survived and there were 15 grandchildren. 😲

Calli, it's not on Netflix as far as I know. We have only seen it on stage.

There are some amazing young musicians in the parts.

Oooh and Jason Donovan as the owner of Sun Records - whose name escapes me!!

We saw that in Vegas, Kitty, it was an amazing show. Didn't realise that it was on in the UK. 👍

Not sure it still is grannmarie but we absolutely loved it and will no doubt go again should it reappear.

The Million Dollar Quartet was an actual event which was made into a stage show. Can you imagine those four together....this was the birth of rock 'n roll!
The soundtrack is available on CD or vinyl.
Audio CD on Amazon

His personal life might have been criticised but he entertained millions. My husbands grandparents married they were first cousins with the same surname. It was an arranged marriage so they had no say in the matter.

Thanks folks for your kind comments.

We have seen a stage show twice called ‘Sun Studios’ very similar to the show Kitty mentioned. It’s doing the rounds now and we saw it in September.

Love the Rock and Roll years.
