Do you wear a pinny?

I only wear an apron on one day of the year, on Christmas Day when I am dressed ready to greet my guests.

I do all my food preparations in my casual clobber in the morning, then shower , make-up, hair and dress.

Pinny then donned to protect me until I sit to the table.

I wear an apron when opening tins of fish when I have my best clothes on.

Funny that this should come up as we went to a friends for lunch yesterday and she was wearing one. I said to DH this morning that I should start wearing one as I’m always ruining clothes when I’m cooking.

Thankfully I was wearing my pinny this afternoon when I dropped a huge dish of lamb biryani down my front while I was taking it off the hob. I only wish it was a maxi pinny then I wouldn't have turmeric down my jeans and rice in my slippers 😢

I only wear one for Christmas cooking too! My DIL gave me a lovely Liberty pinny and I'd wear it when she comes too, though we normally go out for a family meal rather than me cooking.

And it's normally when I'm eating that I ruin my clothes, probably better off with a bib!

Always when cooking/washing up - have a great collection of aprons! Otherwise would have to be changing clothes every 5 mins as always to get something splashed on me, usually tomato/tumeric based which doesn't come out in the wash

Since severely fracturing my right shoulder in three places and damaging the soft tissue in a freak accident, I ended up with a reverse replacement shoulder. This means I cannot do up ties etc behind my back. Enter the Japanese apron which you put your arms and head through. It covers the front and the sides and for a messy cook and craftsperson is just ideal. Front opening bras are a lifesaver too.

always worn an apron or pinny when cooking housework or gardening. All handmade. Many years ago when we had jumble sales I would buy cotton skirts or dresses to make aprons. Now because I am old and shaky I wear an apron when having a meal.

As with others, always when cooking because I can make a mess to Olympic standards. Didn't last week for some reason and now have to bin a very nice hoodie as it has the most enormous grease stain down the front where I was wrestling with a roast chicken (it won!).

Only when cooking. I wouldn't for household chores.

Never wear one. Had to make a pinafore in a dressmaking class at school in the 1950s. I completely botched it, got zero marks, vowed never to look at a pinny ever again. My mother and grandmother spent a lot of their time swathed in big wrap-around pinnies. They looked like sacks of potatoes. But in those days before washing machines it was important to protect clothes while doing household chores.

No never, I don’t own one.

ParlorGames Tue 01-Nov-22 12:38:47

Yes, even in the garden. I made a gardeners apron using heavy gauge calico with a large pocket - looks like a kangaroo pouch actually. Always wear one when baking and cooking - particularly when batch cooking bolognese sauce.

I have about 4 of them hanging, minding their own business on a hook, and it’s only when I have spilled that sauce or bottle of oil down my front that I trundle off and put one on.Drives DH mad.

Not routinely, but when I've got a baking day (eg.Christmas baking) I do. Keeps all the flour off me!

My answer is Sometimes!

Always wear one for cooking and eating. Make DH wear one now as well. No more hand washing wool jumpers because they have a few food stains down them.

Always when cooking. Stews, curries, sauces etc spit and splutter al over me otherwise, plus I tend to drip bits down me off my tasting spoon. I actually sometimes pretend I've forgotten to take it off at meal times if it's something like a bolgnaise, which I'm likely to drop down me otherwise; we don't use napkins except at festive times.

Yes, I always wear a pinny. I have 2. They're great, large pocket, always know where glasses, small scissors, keys, tissue are. I'm disabled and I think pinneys are great.

I always wear one when cooking. I often forget to take it off so end up spending the evening wearing it. I note that Bake Off contestants wear them (and with good reason observing the state of them!) but they are not worn on other cookery programmes.

I wear a plain pinny when I cook the occasional meal involving such messy ingredients as flour and/or eggs for DH and me but he does most of the cooking anyway. I have a beautiful pinny - gift from one friend and designed by an artist friend - which I wear 'for show' when I (very rarely) cook for friends. Interestingly it is far more practical than the everyday ones with white backgrounds but far too pretty to wear for messay dishes. (Just noticed the wee splash from the last wearing....heigh ho...)

jaybee66 Tue 01-Nov-22 14:09:29

Yes. I hate getting splashed with oil etc.

TwiceAsNice Tue 01-Nov-22 15:37:55

Yes when baking and especially when frying eggs or stirring tomato sauces . Saves a lot of splashes and fat is so hard to get out of clothes

Pavane Tue 01-Nov-22 16:13:35

Yes, I wear one. My grandson(6yo) calls it a “cooking” thing.

MaggsMcG Tue 01-Nov-22 16:34:04

I need a bib not a pinny or apron. I have grease spots down the front of almost all of my tops. Even if I sit at a proper table.
