What are the things you like most in your home?

Big, small, expensive, cheap, or any other variation.

Grandchildren go without saying, so what else do you really like?

GagaJo Tue 08-Nov-22 17:53:10

My art. It's all original. All of it gives me pleasure, although I haven't got wall space for all of it.

MissAdventure Tue 08-Nov-22 17:54:57

Any chance...?
You know....?
A photo....?

If we`re not talking humans, I`d like to say my cat, Billy, then the myriad little ornaments in my display cabinet. Plus, although I have central heating, I have an insert gas fire with real flames, I love to see it looking bright and cheerful on a cold, dark winter`s day.

MissAdventure Tue 08-Nov-22 18:03:35

Billy.
I haven't heard of him before.

Did you have a tom cat you used to feed, a sort of stray?

Is now your favourite thing? smile
I might have remembered wrong though.

What's a shrimp tank miss A?

MissAdventure Tue 08-Nov-22 19:19:29

It's just small roundish tank, and I keep live nano shrimp in it. smile
Mine is like an almost eco system, with live plants growing out of it, and earth in it.

Bridie22 Tue 08-Nov-22 19:24:21

That sounds amazing, I was thinking the pink edible sweet shrimps love them and the bananas.

Bridie22 Tue 08-Nov-22 19:26:32

Just googled it, its very pretty 👍

MissAdventure Tue 08-Nov-22 19:29:08

Oh I like the chocolate coated bananas.

Thank you about my tank. It's quite messy looking, but it has grass growing, and roots from the houseplants draping around under the water.

I have to say I am pretty cosy in my house, even though when we bought if from DH's mum it never really felt like it was my taste or my choice. But that was 30 years ago, and it definitely feels like mine now.

I have a really comfortable swivel chair so I can spin around and look at the view over the harbour, or face the room while TV watching.

A collection of pottery vases and bowls which I love to use as much as look at when not in use. It's the thing I tend to buy while on vacation. I tend to choose soft green or dark earthy tones.

My brand new sewing room. Smallest bedroom, but now I can just sew away to my heart's content and leave it all out without worrying. My big poster of Marilyn Monroe at the top of the stairs -the one where she is on a balcony in New York with a big wide smile that lights up the world. She was so beautiful and a real hero of mine. And of course my tortoise...my companion of 60 years who I could never imagine being without.

We love our houseplants and we have a lot. Some have twinkly lights through the leaves. They bring contentment and keep the air in the house healthy. Also I love our framed photographs.

Namsnanny Tue 08-Nov-22 21:59:43

MissAdventure

Oh air conditioning.
I'd love that, I think.

Just in the bedroom. Only just fitted.
Take a bet that next summer will be the coldest on record!🤣

Hellogirl1 Tue 08-Nov-22 22:58:19

Miss A, I think you`re thinking of Soop from the kitchen, she fed then adopted Rory, now she`s taking care of Sweetie Pie.

I love/ like everything in my home, if I didn’t it would be out 😄
I was looking around and decided on these.
The white lady is a copy of the original in Chatsworth house.
The Netzuke was inherited from a friend.
The silver yacht was a present from a dear dear friend.

I like its cottagey style which looks cosy but I'll probably always hanker over a little more space.

NotAGran55 Wed 09-Nov-22 14:17:01

I love my garden and it’s occupants.

LauraNorderr Wed 09-Nov-22 16:11:40

Lovely idea for a thread MissA
These are a few of my favourite things.
A photo of Orlin as a boy, a giraffe painted by my three year old granddaughter and a little old man carved by my son when he was at school.

LauraNorderr Wed 09-Nov-22 16:15:06

A few more
A card made for me by a special friend
A box hand painted by another close friend when I had a thing for frogs and a lovely sheep given by yet another thoughtful friend for my 70th birthday.

What beautiful objects all round, and those that were gifted to us are often more precious than those we buy for ourselves. 💕

SachaMac Wed 09-Nov-22 17:44:50

In my lounge its an oil painting my son did from a photograph I took in Sri Lanka, my border terrier, currently all curled up on my velvet cushions, the warm glow from my scented candles and my comfy reclining sofa.
I like your wallpaper FannyCornforth

Delila Wed 09-Nov-22 18:17:04

This is my favourite thing. It’s been on my fridge for 14 years so it’s fading away.

CanadianGran Wed 09-Nov-22 19:20:19

Aw, Delila, that is so sweet!

LauraNorderr Wed 09-Nov-22 19:24:32

That’s lovely Delila, only fading on paper I’m sure.
Yes Joseanne, the things given to or made for us are the real treasures.
