Feeling out of step?

Bless me GN I cannot tell a lie but speaking from a distinctly minority position it seems I must confess the following GN sins-
I like Joules (also Seasalt, White Stuff, Boden and Emma Bridgewater, but have gone off Hotter) and I take exception to my style choices bring disparaged as frumpy
I still consult Delia, Nigella and Jamie-also Katie Stewart
I would not have Bisto in my kitchen - there are excellent stocks in sachets in the supermarket, including turkey
I don’t care for turkey anyway , would rather have a couple of ribs of beef
I hate Tesco and never shop there either in person or on line so I was happy to snooze through the wee small hours, as well as the big ones
I won’t even give a thought to Christmas decs until 10 days before the Day, and that’s only because I am having the whole extended family here on the 18 th, otherwise that would be “decorating” weekend
So as I said, clearly in a minority of one but I take comfort in the Scottish saying “They’re a’ oot o’ step except puir wee Jock”

Dare I admit, that when I see a thread where everyone agrees, there is nothing I enjoy more than posting an alternative view.

MawtheMerrier Tue 15-Nov-22 14:11:40

Tee hee M0nica know the feeling! grin😈

As long as you do exactly what Delia tells you, everything will be fine 😬

Yes! Although I still can't boil eggs!

Sometimes I defect to Mary or the Hairy Bikers, just to liven things up.

I don't like the Bisto gravy granules although the powder is ok in moderation.
You can buy organic frozen stock.
I've given up making my own.

I do like turkey but no-one else does and I couldn't eat a whole one.

I don't mind Tesco (hangs head in shame). They helped when no other supermarkets could and the staff at our local one are friendly.

I'm frumpy. 😁

Callistemon21 Tue 15-Nov-22 15:05:32

Is there any insult more potent than being told you look frumpy or your taste in shops is frumpy?

Is it ok if you admit it yourself?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 15-Nov-22 15:29:05

I think I have always been a little out of step

Have never looked at Hotter shoes.

Really dislike Tesco’s

Turkey is one of my favourite meats.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 15-Nov-22 15:31:12

Just realised another 50% of my wardrobe is from Boden 😱

SueDonim Tue 15-Nov-22 15:34:22

I don’t like gravy, be it Bisto or loving hand-made from carefully curated ingredients. The smell of stock makes me 🤢

Farzanah Tue 15-Nov-22 15:43:00

I’m with you on gravy SueD Went out for Sunday lunch on holiday and the meal came floating in gravy. Couldn’t eat a bite.
I always imagine Hotter shoes with the Velcro fastenings I used to get for my mum. I know they don’t all have them. I buy some travel clothing from Rohan, and horror of horrors, they have replaced Eco with Hotter shoes…… Apologies to Hotter fans.

Katyj Tue 15-Nov-22 15:50:51

Well if your out of step I certainly am ! I’m also out of the loop whatever that means 🤣

dragonfly46 Tue 15-Nov-22 17:33:57

Oh the wine is for drinking kitty not the gravy! 😉

kittylester Tue 15-Nov-22 17:56:09

That's where I have been going wrong. grin

I think there are enough of us out of step that we must be back in step - I think confused

I’ve never liked Tesco. I grew up near Henley on Thames which had a Tesco and a Waitrose. My mother would never dream of going in Tesco and I think it rubbed off on me. I used to like Hotter but over the last year or two they seem to have changed. I shouldn’t worry though as I have over 20 pairs of shoes. Our Christmas decorations go up the week before Christmas and come down on 12th night. I love Bisto granules. Younger son discovered them when he was a student. My gravy is made with homemade stock and any vegetable water that is around and thickened with granules. Younger son also puts a dash of milk in gravy which somehow makes it a bit more unctuous. I don’t think we’re having turkey this year. We have three Guinea fowl in the freezer. Delia is fine for most things but her egg cookery is dire IMO.

OR:

"Everyone's out of step but me"

😁

Never had a pair of Hotters, never had anything by Joules, not at all keen on Tesco and really loath Asda, sometimes I make my own gravy (which I prefer) and sometimes I use Bisto but mainly for OH who likes lots whereas I only like gravy in small quantities and totally agree with Farzanah regarding food swimming in gravy, horrible. I prefer to shop in Lidl, Sainsbury's, Aldi & Waitrose in that order, depending on which direction I'm driving. Christmas decorations used to go up week before, last couple of years earlier just to be seasonally jolly grin

Oh dear! 🤣🤣

merlotgran Tue 15-Nov-22 20:36:35

Sorry. Ignore my post….Wrong thread.-

Deedaa Tue 15-Nov-22 20:45:44

Fairly heavy Italian influences in my cooking fro DH's family. I use gravy granules, but the main flavouring is Marsala. If I want to check any technicalities I go back to Delia to check the numbers.

I've got an array of Hotter shoes in various colours because they are about the only things that fit my feet now. Clothes are mainly Joe Browns or Sea Salt from charity shops or Ebay. I used to wear mainly Per Una but they have gone sadly downhill now.

Wyllow3 Tue 15-Nov-22 20:46:00

You mean...there are "steps?"

Maybe its my choice of threads...

We went to Sainsburys last week because it was handy to where we were.
I've even been to Morrisons and Iceland!

I just like food.

I started off long ago with the wrong first step. It seemed quite comfortable so I have continued with it. Why change, just for the sake of being like others. And as an aside I really dislike Joules clothes. I am a Seasalt, Toast and Plumo person with a large bit of eBay thrown in .

OnwardandUpward Wed 16-Nov-22 08:57:36

I'm totally out of step and it's a good thing. This day will never come again. I don't get people who are making themselves unhappy trying to fit in or keep up with the Jones's. I think it's happier to stand out and be yourself because you'll be happier and who doesn't need more joy?

As the tv advert keeps telling us, "Britain has a shortage of joy", but we can create our own joy by doing what makes US happy.

paddyann54 Wed 16-Nov-22 09:04:05

I'm not out of step on here .I'm on a different planet in a different time scale .
Maybe I just need those rose tinted specs that so many seem to wear

nanna8 Wed 16-Nov-22 09:05:51

Well for the first time ever I have put our tree up in November and it is full of twinkling coloured lights which make me feel happy every time I look at them. I bought extra ones so it is really, really sparkly.

Mollygo Wed 16-Nov-22 09:17:15

I have one pair of Hotters. I loved gravy granules until the lecture from DD, but I do use Bisto Powder.
I love Seasalt but am partial to the occasional garment from Bon Marché and even buy the occasional clothes from the outlet in the garden centre near us.😱
I like grocery shopping in any of the supermarkets or the little specialist butchers etc in town and I have to go into a Waitrose if I’m visiting somewhere that has one, just to see what I’m missing!
I like the middle of Lidl and the centre aisles of Aldi, whether I buy things or not.
I’m so out of step, that I had to google Birkenstocks to find out what they were.
