due to avian flu,
has any one noticed a shortage in their local stores?

Dottynan Wed 16-Nov-22 05:40:43

No shortage in the two food shops I visited yesterday

Kim19 Wed 16-Nov-22 05:54:35

Yes. Both Sainsbury and Tesco devoid. I've stocked up as I would really miss my daily intake.

Plenty in M&S on Monday. Can’t remember the last time I had an egg - not a fan, unless it’s in cake!

Seems and adequate supply here. Two stores had them on Saturday and a box is coming in our grocery order today.

I am getting organic eggs from Ocado today.

Grandmadinosaur Wed 16-Nov-22 07:25:34

Haven’t noticed it. I bought some from my local butchers on Monday.

Oldwoman70 Wed 16-Nov-22 07:35:45

Plenty in my local Sainsburys yesterday

MawtheMerrier Wed 16-Nov-22 08:12:46

No, not around here, I got 12 in my Ocado order yesterday without any trouble.

We get ours from the egg farm down the road so no shortage.

Oldnproud Wed 16-Nov-22 08:22:55

Most eggs were out of stock yesterday when I was doing my online shop for today with Tesco.
I did manage to get some, though not the ones I usually get. However, my receipt which came through earlier this morning, shows that they are sending a substitute, which as luck would have it is exactly what I would have bought yesterday if they'd had them 😁

So now there is going to be excessive egg buying!!! Another bit of info that causes a real shortage.

TerriBull Wed 16-Nov-22 08:41:31

Yes definite shortages in Sainsburys recently. Sundays I go to Waitrose and often their egg shelves completely empty.

Riverwalk Wed 16-Nov-22 08:45:30

I think supplies will get back to normal soon, but there won't be any Free Range eggs as all the birds are now indoors.

From what I heard, formerly FR will be labelled 'Barn eggs', presumably that's to differentiate them from battery eggs.

Eggs actly Lovetopaint

Sorry couldn’t resist 🤣

JaneJudge Wed 16-Nov-22 08:51:07

It’s unlikely that people are going to buy enough eggs to cause a shortage for others. They don’t last forever but have a reasonable shelf life, so anyone buying extra on this week’s shop won’t need any next time, and nobody is going to buy a hundred of them as they won’t get used.

I haven’t noticed a shortage for a while, but had problems getting them a few months ago - it’s milk that seems a bit hit and miss just now, round here, at least.

Esmay Wed 16-Nov-22 08:56:05

Yesterday , I managed to buy a dozen in Iceland .
They were almost the last on the shelf .

Mollygo Wed 16-Nov-22 09:04:54

No. The only eggs that I couldn't buy were those where our local supermarket puts out a basket of eggs and you choose your own. The ready-boxed eggs were in plentiful supply.
It was dog food they were short of. Is there a problem I’ve missed?

joannapiano Wed 16-Nov-22 09:14:06

Plenty of eggs around here.

shysal Wed 16-Nov-22 09:35:13

Plenty of eggs in Asda yesterday, although not so many last week.

Patsy70 Wed 16-Nov-22 09:37:48

Unfortunately, the local farmer where I normally buy my eggs has discontinued selling them due to Avian flu and the increase in feed and restrictions by Defra. We have a farm shop very near, so am able to buy from there. I read somewhere that eggs are being imported from Italy! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hellogirl1 Wed 16-Nov-22 10:56:39

Haven`t tried this week, but got some in my Tesco order a week ago.

midgey Wed 16-Nov-22 11:01:13

There were none in my Tesco last week but back to normal this. If all the hens are culled there will be fewer all round. In some areas the avian flu is very bad.

Nannashirlz Wed 16-Nov-22 11:27:48

Yes plenty in my shops but I buy veg and eggs from local farmers have done for years veg last a lot longer than supermarkets and eggs taste better. I can get a small sack from my farmer for same price as a small bag in supermarket
