Oh dear, Donald Trump has announced he is running again for President, That alone causes me concern, but in a media link this morning, his son Baron was sat with his mum watching his father spout on. What a sad, forlorn young man he appears. It just makes me wonder...

Rishi Sunak is our youngest ever PM though.

He isn’t, by a long chalk. William Pitt the Younger was 25 when he became PM. Unlikely to ever be beaten.

Well, let's hope that the only candidates won't be Trump and Biden. Surely somewhere in America there must be an intelligent, sensible politician the majority can support!

Children, usually love their parents, no matter how flawed.

M0nica Thu 17-Nov-22 07:56:22

Doesn't he look like his dad.

Joseanne Thu 17-Nov-22 07:56:53

White-House kids need to be allowed to grow up without the glare of publicity, regardless of who their parents are.

Good post, Dickens.
I think some people sometimes forget the job is hard enough without a politician's child being criticised or made fun of. We are all protective of our children's wellbeing.

Far too old, I agree. There should be a max of 65 and a minimum of 40 but it won’t happen. It would not be a woke thing to do. In reality I think as you get older you tend to lose it a bit. Biden certainly has, not sure about Trump because he was somewhat whacky in the first place.

The 'age' thing.

We had a family friend - a retired Polish professor (Political Science) who, at 82 / 83 had an absolutely razor-sharp mind, wit, memory - and was articulate too (in more than one language).

But he is (was) the exception to the rule. Both Trump and Biden show the cognitive decline that often accompanies ageing. Add Trump's over-inflated ego to the mix and that alone makes him bad POTUS material (IMO). These two cannot be the best America has to offer.

I just can’t understand why Meliana doesn’t leave Trump, she obviously doesn’t love him you can see that from her body language
She would be set up for life with the settlement she would receive, she still has her looks and youth so what keeps her with a racist, narcissistic misogynist like him.

She’s definitely an enigma

Biscuitmuncher Thu 17-Nov-22 08:49:53

How interested do you expect a 16 year old boy to look at one of these events

nanna8 Thu 17-Nov-22 09:00:15

Maybe Donald is different in private. He’d want to be.

FannyCornforth Thu 17-Nov-22 09:03:52

Yes, it’s not hard to imagine Melania being the boss, is it.
Quite funny really

Don’t forget Ron DeSantis, the one they call Trump with a brain

MissAdventure Thu 17-Nov-22 09:14:12

Apparently, Trump and his wife (can't be bothered to look up her name and how it's spelt) have a very loving, affectionate and genuinely normal relationship, with lots of "in" jokes, and her being quite the comedian. hmm

I can't remember which 'insider' has said that; perhaps her hairdresser?

That’s a genuinely terrifying prospect

Nigel Farage maybe?

Very possibly.

I was going to suggest Boris, and it all started falling into place... hmmm..

FannyCornforth Thu 17-Nov-22 09:23:43

I don’t think that it would be advisable to have Boris within any type of distance of Melania.
He could do himself a mischief

MissAdventure Thu 17-Nov-22 09:31:14

It doesn't bear thinking about.

I get the impression Melania leads a fairly separate life to Donald, with her own friends and interests, just appearing with him on official occasions.
After all their properties are certainly large enough for her to keep out of his way if she wants to! She definitely gives the impression of being her own woman.

Couldn’t she write a fascinating autobiography though? I’m sure it would be very revealing and a far more interesting read than the petulant offerings from Harry in his ‘truth’ due out in January.

M0nica Thu 17-Nov-22 14:13:05

I think Barron's presence at this event was quite deliberate and premeditated. He is now 16. An age when many boys sign up for apprenticeships and start training to be plumbers, electricians etc. He may be at school, but he is also starting his apprenticeship in the Trump family business, starting with politics.

Davida1968 Thu 17-Nov-22 14:43:00

I wonder whether (as I once saw suggested by more than one journalist) Melania Trump is "staying put" until her child becomes 18 and thus she can't lose custody in a divorce settlement. Makes sense to me....

imaround Thu 17-Nov-22 21:18:35

I agree Davida1968. Plus, Trump has been married how many times? By now his attorneys would have figured out an iron clad prenup.

Or maybe she loves him?

Interesting.

I hope he bucks the trend, as Tiffany has done, M0nica

Apart from Pitt the Younger who was 24!

Trump is unlikely to win the nomination. The Republicans’ poor showing in the midterms should have shown him that. His support base is dwindling.
