It wasnât a made up title Yammy, there had been previous DofEâs.
And I donât think Philip ever lost his Prince title. He was always Prince Philip, the DofE.
If the Queen spoke about him, she always referred to him as âPrince Philipâ.
Regarding the carrying-on of the titles after the Duke dies, e.g. the Duke of Kent, I think the son can use the title, but loses the âHRHâ before it. The âHRHâ is only for the children or grandchildren of the monarch.
(I find all this royal stuff very interesting, I realise many on GN donât).

I suppose calling him a Duke was really demoting him, he was born HRH prince Philip of Greece.
