I've been to the Schonbrunn Palace, volver. I've never seen so many ornate stoves in my life!

đŸ€Ł

Cold in winter there, obviously!!

I’ve been to Schonbrunn Palace too. And eaten Sachertorte in Vienna at the Sacher Hotel. Plus eaten it at the Sacher Cafe in Innsbruck. It’s yummy.

Do the people of Edinburgh get a say?

It wasn’t a made up title Yammy, there had been previous DofE’s.

And I don’t think Philip ever lost his Prince title. He was always Prince Philip, the DofE.

If the Queen spoke about him, she always referred to him as ‘Prince Philip’.

Regarding the carrying-on of the titles after the Duke dies, e.g. the Duke of Kent, I think the son can use the title, but loses the ‘HRH’ before it. The ‘HRH’ is only for the children or grandchildren of the monarch.

(I find all this royal stuff very interesting, I realise many on GN don’t).

Philip was designated Duke of Edinburgh on marriage in 1947 but was not given the title of Prince until 1957.

I'm in Edinburgh. Just. Not. Bothered.

I thought he was born a Prince?
Prince of Denmark and Greece

Cabbie21 Tue 29-Nov-22 13:11:46

I am not going to believe this is true until/ unless an official announcement is made.
The title of Duke of Edinburgh should go to Edward, and presumably that would make Sophie the Duchess. It was what the Queen wanted.
I agree that Charlotte does not need this title. She should eventually become Princess Royal when her father becomes King. In my opinion.

Calendargirl Tue 29-Nov-22 13:12:30

I stand corrected Parsley

Have just looked it up.

Yes, he was Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, but gave up those titles on his marriage, when he was made DofE.

The Queen made him a Prince again in 1957.

All rather Ruritanian if you ask me. Which you haven't of course. It is irrelevant to me

I'm just outside. And also not bothered - in the slightest.

nadateturbe Tue 29-Nov-22 13:14:48

They are all made up titles

Of course they are.
A new made up one Baron of Carrickfergus, for William created in 2011.
It's all a nonsense.

đŸŽŒ It means nothing to me.... đŸŽ”

đŸŽ¶ Ahhhh, Vienna.... đŸŽ”

How appropriate!

(Nobody laughed last time, I'm having another go.)

Why can’t Charlotte be Duchess of Cambridge now that Catherine doesn’t use the title on becoming Princess of Wales,
It’s a shame that Edward and Sophie can’t be given the title, she was close to the queen according to the press ,

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-22 13:44:56

Possibly it isn’t true

Thanks, Calendar girl, I really did not know. I find it interesting as well.
I suppose calling him a Duke was really demoting him, he was born HRH prince Philip of Greece. thanks

Why ,just Why...in a country where millions of kids are on the poverty line, where they wont eat more than one meal a day the "King" ....the fool ...had decided a another title is the best thing for his GD!
Heaven help us all ,haven't they already got the older child threatening classmates who annoy hme with my dad will be king so you better watch out?
What a bloody mixed up awful world this is .Should have all got their p45's when Liz died.

Agree

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-22 14:42:25

So no title and all children will have much food.

paddyann54 Tue 29-Nov-22 14:48:25

Maybe take her to see how poor families even working poor families have to live Annie I'm sure it would do a lot more good than another title ....these kids havent a clue about reality, maybe they need to learn young!

Grany Tue 29-Nov-22 15:03:59

“Her husband Philip, however, had predominantly German ancestors and spoke fluent German. In 1947, he became a British citizen and, shortly before his marriage to Elizabeth, relinquished his German title of nobility and called himself only "Mountbatten."

BlueBelle Tue 29-Nov-22 15:04:34

Anniebach no it won’t make any difference to starving children but perhaps it wouldn’t rub it in quite so much

I think Diana did something like that for William and Harry.

We have no idea what donations the royals may be making to poor families. They aren’t likely to tell us.

volver Tue 29-Nov-22 15:28:46

I am absolutely sure that the RF make donations to poor families. And to lots of other things.

It's the least we might expect from an unimaginably rich family who keep telling us that they serve us. Isn't it? Are we meant to be grateful?

I agree Bluebelle.
Anniebach it's lovely to have you back to disagree with me.🙂
