Hurray for Charlotte!

Joseanne Tue 29-Nov-22 15:33:22

Having this new title and a change of name from Charlotte Cambridge to Charlotte Wales, or even Charlotte Windsor, must be giving the poor girl an identity crisis.
All those name labels to change on her school information!

Sorry, Grandma70s

The Royals giving money to the poor is a bit like me raiding your bank account and being generous by giving it back to you.

As for the scrabble to invent new titles - it would be a joke if it didn't tie yet another generation of perfectly nice children perpetuating something that could be allowed do die out quietly over this monarchy and the next.

All rather Ruritanian if you ask me. Which you haven't of course. It is irrelevant to me

How appropriate!

(Nobody laughed last time, I'm having another go.)

Oh, just seen your correction ( blame autocorrect).

Well, she's going to have to do the Duke of Edinburgh's Award up to Gold now whether she likes it or not!

There’s nothing like a good old royal thread to bring us all together! 🤗

I was hoping that those Royal titles would be allowed to die out or at least be limited to one title per person. Being a princess is surely a big enough deal.

merlotgran Tue 29-Nov-22 18:17:23

I can’t see why there’s a problem with James, Viscount Severn inheriting the title after his father. Other dukedoms are passed down the generations without a fuss.

If he inherits Bagshot Place he’ll just have to find a way to make it pay like the current Duke of Bedford does with Woburn Abbey.

James? Not his elder sister then?

Casdon Tue 29-Nov-22 18:27:30

It doesn’t work like that Bagshott is part of the Crown Estate, it will be up to the monarch of the time who lives there. Most likely Charlotte or Louis.

Sorry, I’ve just found out that Edward leased it for 150 years - that will see him and his children out - it’s big enough for both of them I’d say.

James? Not his elder sister then?

Afraid not. The changes to the line of primogeniture weren’t made until Charlotte was born.

FannyCornforth Tue 29-Nov-22 18:44:11

I don’t know who James is, but Charlotte is third in line to the thrown

FannyCornforth Tue 29-Nov-22 18:44:34

Throne 🤦‍♀️

merlotgran Tue 29-Nov-22 18:46:44

James is Prince Edward’s son

merlotgran Tue 29-Nov-22 18:50:07

I’ve just checked and the change was made in 2011.

volver Tue 29-Nov-22 18:52:37

Oh, yes, of course. Thanks merlotgran.

FannyCornforth Tue 29-Nov-22 18:53:30

Thank you smile
I admit that I’m not following my own thread, let alone the finer points of the constitution

CanadianGran Tue 29-Nov-22 18:55:58

Being a bit removed from it all, I don't really understand some titles and whatever goes along with them.

But I did read up that no land goes along with the title, nor any source of income. I have also read that a Duke or Duchess is ranked below a Prince or Princess, and people are addressed by their highest title.

So even if Princess Charlotte is given the title, there's nothing to go along with it, and she will still be known as a Princess.
To my mind, it is meaningless then. Why even do it?

FannyCornforth Tue 29-Nov-22 19:01:50

CanadianGran lord knows! grin

No, seriously, celebrity soap opera.
