At this time of the year ... anyone else fancying a glass of sherry before dinner?

I always forget there are a few to choose from! My mum always bought Harvey’s Bristol Cream. Sticky, warming and always reminds me of eating out (very occasionally) when we fist got married in 1974 - ordering a ‘schooner’ of it! Then along came drier Croft Original, kept in the fridge. I’ve enjoyed a very dry glass of fino in a bodega in Málaga with the locals but never over here for some reason. I always stick to wine or a G&T.

Time for a seasonal change I think.
Will you join me?
😊

Confession time.
Himself has nipped out to sort a small job. I got in the lift and I’m sat in Bevano Lounge bar below us. Not ordered a sherry though. When out, unless a meal, it does seem ‘old lady-ish’.
🤭
I’ve got a Sauvignon Blanc.
If I see Himself walk past the window in about half an hour I’ll invite him to join me for a drink (pint probably).
I’ll blame you Grandmabatty.
That said, I’ve been to have my hair done today and want to show off. Before I sleep on it tonight.
Busy in here. Candles lit at all the tables, looks cosy. And the wine is chilled. What more can a girl ask for?

A glass of Madeira can be very rich and comforting on a cold night.

I've not drank any sort of alcohol for years as my face flushes up too much and I look like a beetroot on legs. Not a pretty sight.

Greenfinch Bristol Cream is on offer in Morrisons! Ten pounds for small bottle Ellen pounds fifty for a litre……be silly not to wouldn’t it! It slips down so nicely when you are cold and a bit fed up.

😂.That reminds of of a Hogmanay party mum and dad had in the early 70s. They bought draft sherry and collected it in a coca cola bottle. One of the guests was drinking rum and coke and had about five or six before he left. When mum went to look for the sherry, she couldn't find it but there was an empty cola bottle. Yup, said guest had drunk rum with a mixer of sherry all night! In those days the sherry was very dark in colour so he thought it was cola. How he managed to walk home, we never knew.

I like an occasional Sherry although it’s not my drink of choice.
When DH was alive, we always had a massive glass to kick off unraveling the Christmas tree lights and getting the decorations up.
When we were first married (and struggling) I took a second job in the local ‘posh’ hotel, where I had to learn the various types of sherry and their brand names - some guests would ask for a Croft or Harvey’s, others an Oloroso or Manzanilla.

I’m in here. Just took a photo. What are you having? My shout ladies.

Dottydot you need to try a bit harder. Industrial thickness foundation for coverage?

Looks good!

I'm going to be a party pooper and ask for a cup of tea, please.
Wine at lunch-time made me sleepy.

I'll have nonstop if anyone's pouring, don't mind what it is! Although in this cold weather in having a glass of ginger wine at the moment.

❤️ it Georgesgran! If we did that we’d end up arguing. Christmas lights gets Himself frazzled.

I of course am very laid back. But then he winds me up moaning about what ought to be a happy event. Huh.

Green tinted foundation helps.

I kid you not - I used to buy it in Boots when I had rosacea. It may have been Avène.

Whoops, nonstop! Didn't mean that! Although come to think of it......

Urmstongran Tue 06-Dec-22 18:07:29

Fair enough Calli you’re ahead of me.
Next time perhaps? I’ll give you a ring.

Callistemon21 Tue 06-Dec-22 18:08:54

Lovely! I'll look forward to it 🙂

Now .... 😴

See Dottydots? We are all so helpful on this thread.
Leading you astray ...

I like this print on the wall here. (One of many). It’s so 70’s isn’t it?

Callistemon21 Tue 06-Dec-22 18:15:03

Jean Shrimpton?

AskAlice Tue 06-Dec-22 18:15:19

Oooh Urmstongran, my late MIL had that on the wall - and the one of the little boy with tears running down his face!!

Whitewavemark2 Tue 06-Dec-22 18:15:39

Glass of Malbec with dinner tonight.

AskAlice Tue 06-Dec-22 18:15:54

Oh, and the one of the swans and the weeping willow...smile

Urmstongran Tue 06-Dec-22 18:16:57

I think she’s gorgeous.

No sign of Himself yet. Actually this is nice. I feel I’m chatting to you all whilst I’m in here! Thank you for your company.

Urmstongran Tue 06-Dec-22 18:18:26

I’ve just spotted another great print but I daren't lift up my iPad to photograph it. The couple next to me will think I’m weird.

Callistemon21 Tue 06-Dec-22 18:19:31

Oh go on. Do it!

Urmstongran Tue 06-Dec-22 18:19:56

That’s a serious red WWmk2. Kudos to you.
Cheers!

I've got a bottle of sherry left over from last Christmas, if I can remember where it is...wine
